PREVIEW: The 2016 season starts where the 2015 season left off, with a rematch of Super Bowl 50. The Broncos were a 4.5 point underdog in the last game, but they won outright by a score of 24-10. The Denver defense dominated the game from start to finish, forcing Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to make some ill advised throws. The intense pressure of the Broncos forced Newton to make poor decisions, and he turned the ball over several times. Situational handicappers will be looking at a revenge spot here, with Newton and Carolina having a chance to exorcise some demons. The public money is heavy on Carolina, according to Covers.com consensus analysis, 73 percent of bettors are backing the Panthers. History tells us that these two teams haven’t scored a lot of points in previous meetings, failing to reach the total in four of the last five games. The public has taken notice, with 64 percent of bettors favoring the under. Denver could be a bit shorthanded on defense though, with DeMarcus Ware’s status listed as questionable due to a sore back. The Panthers defense also took a big hit in the off-season, losing Josh Norman to the Redskins. Both teams were 2-2 in the pre-season, but Denver won handily (19-9 vs LA) in “dress rehearsal” week, while the Panthers lost at home to the Patriots.
