Washington Commanders 2022 Regular Season Wins Total Preview and Prediction

Washington Commanders Regular Season Wins Total Under 8 -110 (Draftkings)

Washington Commanders 2022 Betting Odds

To win Super Bowl: +6600 (BET365)
To win NFC East: +500 (BET365)
To win 8 games: O/U 8 -110 (BET365)

Washington won seven games in 2021, and they went 7-9-1 ATS. While they failed to live up to expectations, the fact that they won seven games and kept quarterback Taylor Heinicke upright for an entire season was a considerable achievement.

Unfortunately for Washington, seven wins wasn’t enough to clinch the NFC East for a second consecutive season. Bettors were high on Washington last season, and the early money suggests they are backing the Commanders again in 2022.

Carson Wentz

Tayor Heinicke threw for 3,419 yards with 20 TDs and 15 INTs on 65 percent passing last year. He played just well enough to give them a chance to win games, but not well enough to push them out of mediocrity. He wasn’t really the problem, but he also wasn’t the answer.

The Colts decided that Carson Wentz wasn’t the answer for them, so they shipped him to Washington. You can argue that Wentz is an upgrade, but the numbers don’t really suggest that he was significantly better than Heinicke last season.

He threw for roughly the same amount of yards, with a slightly lower completion percentage. He will step behind an inferior offensive line, with a team that is significantly less talented than the Colts. He won’t have the luxury of handing off to the league’s leading rusher. I am not convinced that Wentz can be a difference maker on a below average team.

Soft Schedule

According to the data, the Commanders will have the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2022. They get a break in their season opener facing the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. Games against the Lions, Bears, Giants, Texans and Falcons all before the Bye Week appear to be possible wins.

Of course you can’t count your chickens before they hatch, and even though the NFC East has been the laughing stock of the league in recent seasons, we are expecting the Giants and the Eagles to be significantly better in 2022. Dallas is still the favorite to win the division, and the Commanders have to face the Cowboys twice.

Leadership Issues

Few organizations in professional sports have been as chaotic as the Washington Football Team. Team owner Daniel Snyder and the entire organization remain embroiled in multiple ongoing investigations into the Commanders practices and day-to-day operations. Congress is probing allegations of a toxic workplace environment, and there is speculation that Snyder will be removed as the team owner.

Committee chair Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) seems to be serious about holding Snyder accountable: “The NFL is unwilling or unable to hold Mr. Snyder accountable,” Maloney said. “That is why I am announcing now my intent to issue a subpoena for Mr. Snyder for a deposition next week. The committee will not be deterred in its investigation into the Washington Commanders.”

Projected record: 6-11 Overall

The Nats won Game 1 of this series in Colorado, and they have now won 10 of their last 13 overall. Colorado has lost 9 of their last 12, and injuries have really hit the Rockies hard.

Mitch Parker will toe the slab for Washington in Game 2, and he's 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA in his last five starts.

The Rockies hand the ball to Cal Quantrill, who is 2-3 with a 3.97 ERA in six home starts. He's backed up by the worst bullpen in the major leagues.

Injuries to Diaz, Blackmon and Bryant aren't going to help the Rockies.

WHO IS THE ICEMAN? He’s no soothsayer and he doesn’t have a crystal ball, but Jesse Schule can indeed predict the future. As a professional handicapper, it’s actually part of his job description. His clients have accused him of secretly possessing Marty McFly’s Sports Almanac, but he tells us the secret to his success is thanks in part to his fascination with history. The idea that you can predict the future by studying the past is nothing new. Historians have been doing it for years.

Handicapping Methodology: Jesse is not a believer in systems, programs or number crunching formulas to handicap games. He is firm in his belief that you aren't playing against the sportsbook, you are playing against the average Joe (other bettors). Jesse is notorious for attacking inflated point spreads, soft lines and totals that are a little out of whack. He also relies on a nearly photographic memory with an uncanny ability to tell you a player's history and stats dating back for decades. Anyone can look up how many touchdowns a guy has scored, Jesse can also tell you about the ones that he almost scored.

Money Management: His plays are rated based on a 1-10 star system, and he recommends wagering 0.5 percent of your bankroll per star rating. So a top rated 10* play would represent a bet equal to five percent of a player's bankroll.

Signature Plays:

AFTERNOON EXECUTIONER: This title is reserved for games with a start time between 12:00 – 4:30 ET. These are popular with action junkies who are dying for the games to get underway.

The TERMINATOR: Jesse's signature totals play, the Terminator has established a reputation as one of the most consistent winners in Schule's repertoire.

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE: These plays represent a game where the stats show a significant trend which isn't reflected in the price.

GRIM REAPER BLOWOUT: His signature play reserved for medium to large favorites. High percentage plays for those who don't mind laying chalk.

HOT DIGGITY DOG: This is the Iceman's signature underdog play. About as rare as strawberries in December, you'll want to grab these whenever they are available
