Flyers vs Penguins Free Pick April 13, 2018
I bet on Pittsburgh in Game 1, and here is what I said prior to the start of the series: “The Flyers lost all four meetings in this series this season, and all four games were high scoring. Goaltending isn’t a strength for Philly, and Brian Elliott was lit up for nine goals in a pair of losses in two starts versus the Penguins this season. Pittsburgh owns the league’s most effective power-play, converting on 26.2 percent of their man-advantage opportunities. Surely this will come into play against the Flyers, who’s penalty killing unit ranks 29th in the league, allowing opponents to convert at almost 25 percent. The world’s best player scored more points this season versus the Flyers (9) than any other opponent. The defending Stanley Cup champions have one of the best home records in the league, and they have won five of their last six home meetings versus the Flyers. I like the Pens to take charge of this series with a commanding Game 1 win on home ice.” Elliot gave up five goals on just 19 shots, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will start in Game 2. The over is 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two teams, and they have gone over in eight of the last nine overall. That trend of high scoring games seems more than likely to continue here in the second game of this series in Pittsburgh.
Take OVER.
