Northwestern vs Minnesota Free Pick January 23, 2017

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been hit hard by injuries this season, losing center Reggie Lynch for the rest of the year, and playing the majority of their BIG10 games without starting guard Amir Coffey. They host Northwestern tonight, and after playing 35 minutes against Ohio State, it is expected that Coffey should be in the lineup for tonight’s game. The Wildcats have been brutal on the road, losing five of six. They scored an average of just 61.5 points in those games, and that’s 20 points less than Minnesota has scored at home. Neither team has been playing well of late, but I think Minnesota is trending in the right direction. The Wildcats won their last game at home versus Penn State, while the Gophers last win came on the road against the Nittany Lions. The Wildcats have failed to cover in four straight road games, and their last two road losses came by a combined margin of 35 points (at Penn State and Indiana). The Gophers are coming off a blowout loss to Ohio State, falling apart after opening up a 20-10 lead in the first half. I expect them to start strong here tonight, but this time they should be able to hold on for a win.

Take MIN.
