We're on the Ducks PL as the Jets aren't an overpowering team. Winnipeg struggles at times with putting the puck in the back of the net and Anaheim's slower possession type game will frustrate them.

Look for this game to turn into a grind it out kind of game, where scoring chances are limited.

Montreal (26-34-4-2) and Colorado (36-22-3-3) are set for Monday night in Canada. 

Montreal on the PL is a valuable play. The Canadiens are 37-29 on PL this year as they continue to always be in games. Their last 7 games have been decided by just 1 or 2 goals at the most. Montreal also hasn't feared top teams either. They tend to play up to the competition and this is a nice spot for them. 

Colorado is just 1-4 in their last 5 against the Eastern Conference and this is the kind of game they may not get up for after just dealing with an overtime game. 

Some trends to note. Canadiens are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Central. Home team is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.

We're on the Canadiens (26-33-4-0) Tuesday night.

With home ice, Montreal has value here. They've played some of their best hockey at home this season and this is a bit of a trap game for the Canes. 

Montreal has won 4 of 5 against the Metro Division and they have fared well against the Hurricanes as a whole. Coming into Tuesday, the Hurricanes are 5-12 in the last 17 meetings in Montreal.

Tuesday 9* NHL PL Play

Sharks +1.5

Off of a nice upset play on the Kraken last night over the Avs, tonight we're on the Sharks (18-33-6-6) here, on the PL.

San Jose should be able to keep this one close. The Jets (36-25-1-1) aren't a team that can overpower anyone and that for starters gives us nice value on San Jose.

Along with that, the Jets are just 1-5 in their last 6 overall. They have struggled on both ends of the ice and right now this isn't a team playing with a lot of confidence. 

This is a chance for the Sharks to play the possession game and really frustrate this Jets side. With the confidence down on the Jets side, an early San Jose lead can do wonders for them.

Coyotes +1.5

The Carolina Hurricanes (39-20) take on the Arizona Coyotes (21-40) on Friday night in Phoenix.

The Hurricanes' winning streak of five games came to an end with their recent back-to-back losses. Meanwhile, the Coyotes have lost three out of their last four. My projections have Arizona covering this one, maybe even winning outright. The Canes struggle to cover.

Some trends to note, Coyotes are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game, and are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest. Coyotes are 5-2 in their last 7 home games.

Blackhawks +1.5

Chicago (21-39) has some value here on the PL.

They are playing much better as of late and they've been a tough team to crack at home. Coming into Thursday, they are a solid 7-3 in their last 10 home games. 

Dallas (32-29) has had issues scoring, especially on the road and this will play right into the hands of the Blackhawks. Look for Chicago to keep this one close throughout, with the chance to steal it late.

Thursday 8* NHL O/U Play

Sabres PL

The Blue Jackets haven't lived up to expectations and are currently last in the NHL and have yet to hit 20 wins as a team on the season. Since January 1st, they have the third-worst offence in the league after averaging fewer than 2.40 goals per game.

The Sabres have been one of the most fun teams to watch this year thanks to a second ranked offence where they've averaged nearly 4.00 goals scored. They're also sporting a top ten ranked power play and are coming off a 7-4 beat down on the Washington Capitals.

Some trends to note, the last time these two teams met, we saw Buffalo come away with a 9-4 victory. Of the Sabres 31 victories, 21 have been by at least a two-goal margin. For Columbus, 29 of their 35 losses have been by at least a two-goal margin.

We're on the Jackets here on the PL.

Columbus has caught a little fire here as of late as they are in the midst of playing their best hockey of the season. After making a splash in the offseason, the Jackets were poised to be much better than they've shown. 

Columbus comes in with plenty of momentum after one of their best wins of the season. They took down Edmonton 6-5 on Saturday as they continue to find ways to put together solid performances.

Minnesota has had issues scoring and the Jackets can cause a lot of frustrations here.

Look for the Jackets to keep this close with a chance to steal it.

Sabres PL

Buffalo Sabres (28-23-3-1) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (36-17-1-2)

Buffalo sits 5 games over the .500 mark entering Thursday when they take on Tampa Bay. The Sabres have won 2 of their last 3 as they remain one of the best offensively in the NHL. 

They come in averaging 3.7 goals per game, which ranks 3rd in the entire league. They push the puck and pepper the opposing net better than anyone in the league. Expect them to really put an emphasis with shots on goal as they are their best when they can get 2nd and 3rd chances. 

A trend of note, Sabres are 5-2 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest, and are 14-5 SU in their last 19 on the road.

The last time these two played was a 6-5 TB win, we're expecting another close game Thursday with Buffalo fighting for an Eastern conference playoff spot.

The Blackhawks is averaging fewer than 2.50 goals scored per game which is second last in the NHL this year. On the defensive side, they haven't been doing themselves any favours. They're allowing an average of more than 3.50 goals against per contest and have a bottom ten power play in terms of success rate.

On the season, Dallas is averaging over 3.00 goals per game which should see an increase after this match-up. In their own end, they're allowing just over 2.50 goals against which puts them at second-best in the entire league.

Some trends to note, the Blackhawks are coming off a shootout win Tuesday night and are 0-8 this season on the second of a back-to-back set. In their lone meeting this season, Dallas came away with a 6-4 victory.

Maple Leafs PL

The Maple Leafs added to their depth Friday when they traded for 2019 Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup champ Ryan O'Reilly. He fit right in during their 5-1 win on Saturday against the Canadiens. They put 41 shots on net in the game which included Toronto's leading goal scorer William Nylander and his 5 opportunities. Nylander's 31 goals almost surpass the leading points getter on Chicago.

Averaging a league-low 2.43 goals per game this season, the Blackhawks are unsurprisingly at the bottom of the standings. As previously mentioned, Nylander's 31 tucks are nearly as much as Max Domi's 38 points which lead the team this season.

Some recent trends to note, these two teams met earlier this week with the Maple Leafs coming out ahead and covering the puck line by a 5-2 score.

Maple Leafs PL

The Canadiens are averaging just over 2.50 goals scored per game but are surrendering over 3.50 goals against on the year. In terms of special teams, both their power play and their penalty kill rank in the bottom five across the league.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 5-2 win of the Chicago Blackhawks where the returning Auston Matthews came away with both a goal and an assist. As a team, Toronto is averaging nearly 3.50 goals per game while giving up just over 2.50 against. When it comes to special teams, they have a power play that is operating inside the top ten this year.

Some recent trends to note, of the Canadiens' 28 regulation losses this season, 25 have come by at least a two-goal margin. That includes a 6-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes this past Thursday. For the Maple Leafs, five of their most recent six wins have come by at least a two-goal margin.

The Blackhawks are the worst team in hockey with the second-worst away record in hockey at 6-16-2. Their struggling offence is in part thanks to their inability to get pucks on net with just 26.7 shots per game which is also second-worst in the NHL.

Ottawa has just a single loss in their past seven tries and have succeeded against the Flames and Islanders most recently with their third and fourth string goaltenders.

Some recent trends to note, the Blackhawks have lost 21 of their most recent 30 contests and have seen 19 of those losses come by at least a two-goal margin. Chicago netminder Petr Mrazek is on a six-game losing streak with 24 goals against in that span.

Sabres PL

After four straight losses, the Sabres are primed to bounce back against the basement dwelling Ducks. They've feasted against some of the league's worst defensive teams this season, averaging 4.81 goals per game against the NHL's bottom eight squads.

Falling victim to the Penguins and the Golden Knights in back to back games, the Ducks are who we thought they were. Anaheim has allowed a combined 13 goals against in their last two games and sport a 9-14-1 tally at home.

Some recent trends to note, Anaheim's John Gibson will likely get the start but he's lost his last three starts with a combined 15 goals against. In their lone meeting this past January, Buffalo came out ahead via a 6-3 win.

On Wednesday night the Tampa Bay Lightning (35-16-1-1, 14-12 on the road) take on the Arizona Coyotes (18-28-6-2, 11-8-2 at home) in NHL action this is a back-to-back for the Bolts. This smells like a letdown game for the Lightning after playing a tough matchup Tuesday in Denver.

Likely Brian Elliot in net tonight for TB, so Arizona does catch a little break.

The last time they played Arizona took down the Predators 4-2, we're not expecting a miracle here, but we're expecting a close game on Humpday.

Since the turn of the calendar, the Oilers' offence has averaged over 4.00 goals per game while giving up fewer than 2.75 tucks against. On special teams, the power play has been clicking with a second-best success rate in 2023.

Montreal has lost 11 of their last 15 home meetings with the Oilers and are averaging just a shade above 2.50 goals per game while giving up nearly 3.75 against on the year.

Some trends to note, Edmonton has taken five of their previous seven games with no rest and have seen 21 of their 30 wins come by at least a two-goal margin, including 15 of their most recent 17 victories. For Montreal, it's pretty grim. They've seen 24 of their 27 regulation losses come by at least a two-goal margin this year which includes a December meeting with the Oilers.

Rangers PL

The Rangers made a blockbuster trade to acquire sniper Vladimir Tarasenko and he made an immediate impact with a goal less than three minutes into his Rangers tenure. They jumped out to 4-0 lead against the Kraken on Friday with Igor Shesterkin in net meaning we should see Jaroslav Halak take the crease in this contest.

The Hurricanes went into their bye week on a seven-game win streak and have a real possibility to make it eight in a row but it will be close.

Some recent trends to note, New York has won five of their last six games against Carolina, including their lone contest at the beginning of January. For the Rangers, Halak has been great as of late with a six-game personal win streak on his hands. He's allowed just a single goal against in three of his most recent four outings.

Maple Leafs PL

The Maple Leafs are coming off a much needed bye week as they head to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets. Toronto has won three of their last four regular-season match-ups in Ohio where they won by at least a two-goal margin in two of those games. On the year, the Maple Leafs are averaging 3.37 goals scored while giving up just over 2.50 per game against.

Since January 1st, the Blue Jackets have averaged just 2.25 goals per game while giving up 3.75 against. On the season, Columbus has seen 27 of their 36 losses come by at least a two-goal margin. They've lost three straight and have just a single win in their last five tries.

On the other hand, since January 1st, the Red Wings are averaging just 2.69 goals scored while giving up 3.23 against.

The Hurricanes are going streaking and have won 5 straight, including a 4-1 win against Boston on Sunday. Six of their most recent ten victories have all been by more than a 1-goal margin.

They've allowed just 93 goals against this season which is 27 fewer than the next team. The Bruins penalty kill has been stout, operating at a near 90% success rate this season.

The Canadiens will be without their top goal scorer in Cole Caufield who is done for the year. Without him, the next highest goal scorer is Nick Suzuki with just 16 lamp lighters on the year. With the health of goaltender Jake Allen still in question, Sam Montembeault has started the past 7 outings.

Some trends to note, both of Anaheim's goaltenders in Anthony Stolarz and John Gibson have struggled this season with GAAs above 4.00 and a save percentage below .900.

The Blackhawks surprised a weary group of Flames in a 4-3 OT win recently. Despite being on a two-game win streak, Chicago simply can't be trusted. They're last in the league with just 10 wins on the year and a 7-14-2 on home ice. Patrick Kane has missed the last two games and is questionable for this contest as well.

Some trends to note, since December, the Blackhawks have the worst goals for average in the league at 1.76 and the least amount of wins at 4. In their lone meeting this season, Colorado won 5-2.

Their power play has not been clicking this season, as they're saddled with the fourth lowest conversion rate on the year.

The Bruins sit atop the NHL standings as the only team with 30 wins after accumulating a 30-4-4 record to start the year. They're averaging the second-most goals for at 3.76 per game while giving up just a league-low 2.16 against. When it comes to special teams, they're rocking a top five power play and have the best penalty kill in the entire league.

San Jose is hosting Boston on the second half of a back-to-back and look to be going with goaltender James Reimer since Kaapo Kahkonen is getting the nod Friday night versus the Ducks. Reimer has a just a single win over his last five starts, allowing 20 goals during that stretch.

Some trends to note, should he get the start, Boston's number one goalie Linus Ullmark leads the league in multiple categories with his 21-1-1 tally, 1.86 GAA and a .939 save percentage.

Since returning from the holiday break, the Lightning have been on a three-game win streak that has seen them out-score the opposition 11-5. They lost just three games in December and are fifth in goals per game as well as in power play conversion rate this season.

Chicago sits last in the league right now and are averaging a league low 2.19 goals scored per game. They've managed just four goals over their past four games and are averaging 3.75 goals against per game this year.
