09-06-13 | Los Angeles Dodgers +1.5 v. Cincinnati Reds | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 22 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the LAD +1.5 The Dodgers haven't lost many games since Yasiel Puig came on the picture, but despite winning 52 of their last 65 games, they are an underdog in Cincinnati tonight. The Reds have been good at home, with a record of 44-24, but the same can't be said for tonight's starting pitcher. Mike Leake has been far better on the road than he has been at Great American Ballpark (4-4,4.08 ERA). Leake (11-6, 3.51 ERA) has been rocked in consecutive losses, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits over 10 2/3 innings in his last two starts. Andre Ethier is 5-for-9 with a pair of home runs lifetime versus Leake, while Skip Schumaker is 4-for-9 with a double and a home run. The Dodgers hand the ball to Chris Capuano, who was brilliant in his last outing. Capuano (4-7, 4.41 ERA) allowed just a single run over seven innings, striking out seven in a 2-1 win over the Padres. He tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits in his last start versus the Reds. Puig might not start, but should be available to pinch-hit. Take the Dodgers. GL, Jesse Schule
09-04-13 | Texas Rangers v. Oakland A's +1.5 | Top | 4-11 | Win | 100 | 11 h 43 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Oakland A's +1.5. The A's had won four straight, and seven of eight before falling to Texas at home last night. It doesn't get any easier for Oakland, facing Japanese phenom Yu Darvish today. Darvish (12-6, 2.73 ERA) allowed three runs on three hits, including a pair of home runs over 6 2/3 innings in a home loss to the Twins his last time out. That was his third consecutive loss, since taking a no-hitter into the eight inning in a 2-1 win at Houston. He hasn't had much success against Oakland this year, losing both his previous starts allowing six runs on 11 hits over 12 innings. Jarrod Parker will toe the rubber for the A's, and he's been very sharp lately. Parker (10-6, 3.59 ERA) allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings in a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay. Prior to that he won consecutive starts, allowing just two runs on 13 hits over 17 innings against Baltimore and Seattle. He's also 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts versus Texas this year. Great value on the home team. Take Oakland RL. GL, Jesse Schule
09-03-13 | Pittsburgh Pirates v. Milwaukee Brewers +1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 58 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Milwaukee Brewers +1.5. The Brewers will try to snap a four game losing skid when they host the Pirates in Game 2 of their series at Miller Park. Yovani Gallardo will toe the rubber for the home team, and he's on a roll of late. Gallardo (10-9, 4.39 ERA) tossed seven scoreless innings allowing six hits in a 4-0 victory over the Pirates in Pittsburgh in his last start. He's won four straight, and he's only given up three runs in his last three starts. The Pirates hand the ball to Gerrit Cole, who was on the mound opposite Gallardo last week in the loss. Cole (6-7, 3.80 ERA) didn't miss many bats, allowing four runs on 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings. It was the second consecutive start where he allowed double digits in hits, in back to back losses. They say the history repeats itself, and it might just do tonight. Take the Brewers. GL, Jesse Schule
08-29-13 | Cleveland Indians +1.5 v. Atlanta Braves | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -170 | 8 h 41 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Cleveland Indians +1.5. The Tribe have dropped the first two games in Atlanta, both low scoring affairs that could have gone either way. They need a win tonight in the series finale to avoid a sweep. Cleveland will send Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound, and he's been dominant in his last few starts. Jimenez (9-8, 3.95 ERA) allowed a pair of runs on five hits over six innings, striking out 10 in a losing effort in a loss to the Twins his last time out. Prior to that he struck out eight, allowing a lone run on a single hit in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-1 win at Oakland. The right-hander has better numbers on the road than he does at home, and he's been better at night than in the day. Atlanta will be getting it's first look at Jimenez this season. The Braves hand the ball to Kris Medlen, who is coming off consecutive losses to St. Louis and Washington. He allowed four runs on 10 hits over nine innings of work in those games. This game should be a closely contested affair. Take the Tribe RL. GL, Jesse Schule
08-29-13 | Milwaukee Brewers +1.5 v. Pittsburgh Pirates | Top | 4-0 | Win | 100 | 8 h 37 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Milwaukee Brewers +1.5. The Brew Crew have won 3-of-5 on their current road trip, and they wrap things up in Pittsburgh tonight, where they have split the first two games with the Pirates. YovanI Gallardo will toe the rubber for the visitors, and he's been sharp since returning from the DL. Gallardo (9-9, 4.61 ERA) allowed just two earned runs in back to back wins over Cincinnati in his last two starts. He allowed just two runs on three hits over six innings, getting charged with a loss in his only trip to PNC park this year. That ended a streak of 17 scoreless innings, winning three straight in Pittsburgh over the last two seasons. The Pirates hand the ball to 22 year old Gerrit Cole, who had his start pushed back a few days to give him extra rest. Cole (6-6, 3.81 ERA) didn't miss a lot of bats, surrendering whopping 10 hits over six innings, fortunate it only resulted in two runs in a loss to the Padres his last time out. He hasn't been as sharp at home as he has been on the road, and his ERA of 4.35 in nine starts is a little concerning for the Pirates, given that PNC Park is known to favor the pitcher. This could be a pitcher's duel, and in that case I give the edge to the Brewers with the more experienced hurler this evening. Take Milwaukee RL. GL, Jesse Schule
08-27-13 | Los Angeles Angels +1.5 v. Tampa Bay Rays | Top | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 57 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the LAA +1.5. The Rays were obliterated on the road in Kansas City yesterday afternoon, while the the Angels had the day off. Los Angeles is coming off a three game sweep of the Mariners in Seattle, and they have a favorable matchup on the mound versus the Rays tonight. C.J. Wilson will toe the slab for the visitors, and he has been excellent for the Halos all year long. Wilson (13-6, 3.30 ERA) allowed one runs on four hits over 7 1/3 innings in a no decision versus Cleveland his last time out. The Angels failed to get him any runs, and eventually lost 4-1 to the Tribe. The Halos might have more luck driving in a few runs tonight though, with Roberto Hernandez on the hill for the Rays. Hernandez (6-13, 4.97 ERA) allowed five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Jays in his last start. He's 0-2 with a 7.53 ERA in three starts in August. The Angels should be able to take advantage of a mismatch with a superior pitcher on the mound tonight. Take LAA +1.5 GL, Jesse Schule
08-27-13 | Milwaukee Brewers +1.5 v. Pittsburgh Pirates | Top | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 50 m | Show |
This is an 8* play on the Milwaukee Brewers +1.5. The Pirates have now fallen out of first place in the NL Central, and they have fewer wins than they do losses in the month of August. Pittsburgh will try to turn things around at home versus the Brew Crew, and they send Jeff Locke to the hill, looking to break out of a personal slump. Locke (9-4, 3.01 ERA) was chased from the game after just four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in a no-decision in San Francisco his last time out. Prior to that he was shellacked at home, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits over just 2 2/3 innings in a 15-5 loss to Arizona. He's been terrible now in six straight appearances, going 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA. It's been the exact opposite for Kyle Lohse, who will get the nod for the visitors tonight. Lohse (9-8, 3.22 ERA) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings in a 6-3 win over the Cardinals his last time out. The veteran is 4-1 with a 2.05 ERA in his last seven starts, and Milwaukee has won six of those games. Lohse has also owned the Pirates, with a record of 4-0 and a 2.39 ERA in his last seven starts. The Brewers have an excellent chance of pulling off the upset in Pittsburgh tonight. Take Milwaukee +1.5 GL, Jesse Schule
08-26-13 | Chicago Cubs v. Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 15 h 43 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the LAD -1.5 The Dodgers haven't lost three straight games since early June, and they will be looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat tonight. The Cubs are in town to play Game 1 of a three game series, and Chicago has just three wins in it's last 14 games. Jake Arrietta will toe the slab for the visitors, and he's failed to impress since joining the rotation. Arrietta (2-2, 5.75 ERA) allowed six runs on five hits over four innings in a loss to Washington in his last outing. He surrendered five runs on two hits and five walks over four innings in a loss to the Dodgers back in April. Adrian Gonzalez has seen more of Arrietta than anyone else in the Dodgers lineup, and he's 5-for-12 with a home run. Zack Greinke will start for the Dodgers, and he's been on a roll, going 4-0 over his last five starts and allowing just a single run in his last three. This game has blowout written all over it. Take the Dodgers on the RL. GL, Jesse Schule |
