09-26-21 | Packers v. 49ers -3 | Top | 30-28 | Loss | -112 | 7 h 51 m | Show |
Jimmy Garoppolo in his first two games has exhibited the highs that show why the 49ers held onto him to try and compete for a Super Bowl this season. He’s also had the lows that explain why they traded up to No. 3 overall in the draft to select Trey Lance. One key for Garoppolo and the 49ers’ 2-0 start is the zero turnovers from under center. Giveaways were a significant problem for Garoppolo in each of the last three years, but he’s remedied the problem early in 2021. If he’s not giving the ball away, he’s plenty efficient to operate Kyle Shanahan’s offense successfully, even if it is a version of the offense that isn’t necessarily threatening defenses vertically.
09-26-21 | Bucs v. Rams +1 | Top | 24-34 | Win | 100 | 3 h 16 m | Show |
The Rams made a huge improvement at quarterback this offseason, swapping out Jared Goff for Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions. They also have two of the NFL’s best after-the-catch receivers in Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, which doesn’t bode well for a defense that hasn’t tackled well through the first two games of the year. Throw in the injuries that have plagued the Tampa Bay defensive backfield so far this season, and the defending champs have a huge challenge on their hands in this department.
09-25-21 | New Mexico v. UTEP +2.5 | Top | 13-20 | Win | 100 | 15 h 57 m | Show |
The Miners have a little bit of an offense now. There’s balance, there’s a passing game, and this isn’t the team of the last several years that struggled just to get the chains moving. It has a mega-problem with mistakes – it’s last in the nation in turnovers, penalties and penalty yards – and it doesn’t convert on third downs. But it’s been able overcome that by running the ball well against the mediocre teams and controlling the clock.
09-25-21 | West Virginia v. Oklahoma -17 | Top | 13-16 | Loss | -108 | 14 h 44 m | Show |
One stat that may come as a surprise is the stark difference in turnovers between Oklahoma and West Virginia. Entering this weekend, the Sooners have an impressive turnover margin of (+5), which is tied for 7th nationally. On the other side, the Mountaineers have a TO margin of (-6), which is near the very bottom of the FBS at 127th. If OU continues to take care of the ball while also creating extra possessions for itself, and if WVU continues to plague itself with mistakes of this variety, it’s going to be an extremely long night for the ‘Eers.
09-25-21 | Illinois +11 v. Purdue | Top | 9-13 | Win | 100 | 10 h 56 m | Show |
The Illini enter Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Purdue (2-1) as double-digit underdogs, but Purdue was projected by most to finish near the bottom of the West Division, so the road game at Ross-Ade Stadium may be one of the most winnable games remaining this season. Especially with an Illinois offense finally getting healthy and a Purdue team that might not have one of its stars (David Bell) available on Saturday. Bielema says he still sees progress in recent weeks. The best way to show progress is to win, and the Illini are hungry for one Saturday.
09-24-21 | Liberty v. Syracuse +6.5 | Top | 21-24 | Win | 104 | 6 h 8 m | Show |
Here comes the Syracuse pass rush. Granted, playing Ohio and Albany is no big deal, but the Orange generated four sacks and a whole lot of pressure in a 17-7 loss to Rutgers. Willis is mobile enough and quick enough with his reads to avoid getting hit too many times, but the Liberty line allows a ton of plays in the backfield and close to three sacks per game. Again, that’s partly because Willis is moving, but the Orange still have to get to him. Also, again, the Syracuse offensive line hasn’t been great, but the running game has been decent so far against the mediocre teams. The O has to establish the ground game right away
09-23-21 | Panthers v. Texans +8 | Top | 24-9 | Loss | -103 | 7 h 39 m | Show |
Houston's defensive tackles have quietly been having an impressive season. Former Dallas Cowboy Maliek Collins is back to near his best, and currently ranks eighth in the NFL among defensive tackles for the highest pass-rush win rate, per ESPN. Sixth-round rookie Roy Lopez has had far more of an impact than most had expected, currently first among NFL defensive tackles in run-stop win rate.
09-20-21 | Lions +11.5 v. Packers | Top | 17-35 | Loss | -102 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
Green Bay's string of six straight season-opening victories ended with a thud when the Packers fell 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints at Jacksonville, Florida. The Packers now will try to win their home opener for a ninth consecutive season. Aaron Rodgers threw two interceptions without a touchdown pass in the season opener. Green Bay's 35-point defeat marked its most lopsided loss in any game Rodgers has started. After trailing by as many as 28 points, the Lions made a frantic comeback before falling 41-33 to the San Francisco 49ers in a game that marked the Detroit debuts for head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. I'll take the 12 in this one.
09-19-21 | Vikings +4 v. Cardinals | Top | 33-34 | Win | 100 | 7 h 42 m | Show |
This is a classic week two match-up, one team looked real good, Arizona, against a team that didn't in Minnesota. I've said it 100 times, especially in week two, don't take what you just saw and apply it to this week. Expect the opposite as Minnesota comes away with the outright win.
09-19-21 | 49ers v. Eagles +3 | Top | 17-11 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 39 m | Show |
The Eagles’ offense is going to be able to take advantage of a 49ers defense that’s banged up. DeVonta Smith is going to feast on a gettable secondary.
09-18-21 | Oklahoma State +3.5 v. Boise State | Top | 21-20 | Win | 100 | 12 h 12 m | Show |
It’s been a rough two games so far with tight battles against Southwest Missouri State and Tulsa, but it’s been a bit of a rebuilding job with the coaching staff, and QB Spencer Sanders was out early on. That’s why you have the soft openings – the hope is to be ready for a game like this. The defense has been able to make up for the offensive problems with a good pass rush and enough stops to keep the team in games. It’s been a high-wire act, but the O proved it could explode – coming up with a 21-point fourth quarter comeback to get by Tulsa 28-23 – and now the attack gets a Boise State defense that’s struggling to get off the field – at least it did against UCF
09-18-21 | Jackson State v. UL-Monroe -4 | Top | 7-12 | Win | 100 | 4 h 49 m | Show |
There's very little about this game that says play the Warhawks but this number is way to peculiar for me not to jump on it.
09-18-21 | Fordham +31.5 v. Florida Atlantic | Top | 14-45 | Win | 100 | 2 h 32 m | Show |
There’s an effective enough of an offense to take advantage of every opportunity. The Rams don’t miss when they get inside the red zone, they’re solid at coming up with third down conversions, and the line has been solid so far for the ground game and at keeping teams out of the backfield. There hasn’t been a whole lot of luck overall, but Tim DeMorat is coming off a big 352-yard, three touchdown passing day in the loss to Monmouth, and this week the passing attack should keep pressing an FAU defense that’s not stopping anyone on third downs and doesn’t have any sort of a pass rush.
09-18-21 | USC v. Washington State +7.5 | Top | 45-14 | Loss | -109 | 7 h 7 m | Show |
So what’s really the problem at USC? It was able to get by San Jose State with relative ease and chalk up the Stanford game to a bad day. However, there hasn’t been anything from the defensive line so far – it’s not getting behind the line – and there are WAY too many penalties and mistakes so far. Wazzu has a similar problem to USC’s – the talent in place isn’t producing yet. Turnovers aren’t an issue, and the parts are there to start doing a whole lot more to keep the chains moving, and again, USC probably won’t bring the pressure.
09-17-21 | Central Florida v. Louisville +7 | Top | 35-42 | Win | 100 | 15 h 46 m | Show |
The season did not start well for Louisville, but over its last six quarters, it has put up 54 points. The Cardinals had to replace a ton of talent at the skill positions this year, but quarterback Malik Cunningham is an experienced signal-caller and a very good athlete. Cunningham has a history of being turnover-prone but has just one interception this season in 60 pass attempts. He has six total touchdowns with four coming on the ground. Hassan Hall and Jalen Mitchell will help power the ground game.
09-11-21 | Hawaii +11 v. Oregon State | Top | 27-45 | Loss | -108 | 14 h 4 m | Show |
The Oregon State Beavers scored 21 points in their opening game of the season but did not score 14 of those points until the final quarter. Quarterback Chance Nolan threw for just 157 yards, while the leading rusher through one game is Trey Lowe with only 27 yards, as Oregon State has gained only 78 yards rushing while passing for 285 yards. Trevon Bradford leads all Oregon State receivers with 75 yards.
09-06-21 | Louisville v. Ole Miss -9 | Top | 24-43 | Win | 100 | 10 h 26 m | Show |
The Cardinals do have to replace quite a bit of production on both sides of the ball, as top two receivers Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick both went to the NFL. Leading rusher Javian Hawkins (133 carries for 822 yards and seven touchdowns) is also gone, while Louisville also lost key linebacker Dorian Etheridge (50 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks).
09-04-21 | New Mexico State +31.5 v. San Diego State | Top | 10-28 | Win | 100 | 11 h 44 m | Show |
The San Diego State Aztecs are a run-heavy offense and senior running back Greg Bell is back for the 2021 season The world will be on the Aztecs in this one but I think SDSU will keep this on the ground, eating up enough time to keep the Aggies within the number. There is a slight advantage to a team who has already played. They should make just enough improvement.
09-04-21 | Bethune-Cookman +21 v. UTEP | Top | 28-38 | Win | 100 | 9 h 54 m | Show |
It’s not like UTEP is Alabama quite yet. The Miners are coming off a dominant 30-3 win over New Mexico State, but they still have to prove they can crank up a consistent offense and New Mexico State is really, really bad at college football. Bethune-Cookman hasn’t played since 2019, but it’s had time to build back the parts, the offense isn’t going to have too many problems with turnovers, and it’s a fast attack that likes to keep things moving.
09-04-21 | Miami-OH +23 v. Cincinnati | Top | 14-49 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 2 m | Show |
The Miami Redhawks did not play much during the 2020 season as three games isn’t a great sample size but this could be the season that sophomore quarterback Brett Gabbert can take that next step. During his limited 2020 action, he went 23-of-35 for 384 yards with four touchdowns and did not throw an interception. They were able to return seven of their starters from last season so that means they have a chance to evolve as an offense with some extra chemistry.
09-03-21 | Michigan State v. Northwestern -3 | Top | 38-21 | Loss | -110 | 15 h 1 m | Show |
Reed and Nailor make up a dynamic duo at wide receiver for Michigan State, no matter who is playing quarterback. However, Northwestern was a very good pass defense last year, allowing just 195.3 passing yards per game (19th in FBS) and just 5.2 yards per pass attempt (first in the FBS). The Wildcats also return star safety Brandon Joseph, who was tied for the lead the nation with six interceptions in 2020. The MSU wide receivers going against the NU defensive backs should be a heavyweight battle, and might be the most fun matchup to watch.
09-03-21 | Saint Francis +33 v. Eastern Michigan | Top | 15-35 | Win | 100 | 13 h 2 m | Show |
Is anyone except me going to be on the Red Flash, not like;y, but I'm not going to lay big numbers early on against teams who are treating these games like their national championship. The offense got a big, efficient passing season two years ago, and while the main men are done, there are just enough dangerous playmakers – like WRs Brandan Lisenby and Kahtero Summers – to potentially be a problem. Eastern Michigan has to prove it can generate a steady pass rush, and the secondary has to be able to make more plays after a rocky 2020
09-02-21 | Sam Houston State v. Northern Arizona +11.5 | Top | 42-16 | Loss | -115 | 6 h 58 m | Show |
Northern Arizona returns much of its defensive core. The defense will be tested against the Bearkats, who return such star players as quarterback Eric Schmid. Schmid threw for 2,808 yards and 20 touchdowns last year, and added another eight scores on the ground. The Lumberjacks had a solid pass defense in the spring, and hope their efforts can limit their opponent’s potent offense.
09-02-21 | South Florida +19 v. NC State | Top | 0-45 | Loss | -102 | 5 h 14 m | Show |
The Bulls finished the season on an eight-game losing streak, although two of those losses were by fewer than three points. The Wolfpack are led by fourth-year sophomore quarterback Devin Leary, who started just three games last year due to a broken left foot suffered on Oct. 17 against Duke. Leary, who also missed 20 days of 2020 fall camp due to COVID-19, had won three straight games prior to the injury. In his four games last season, he passed for 890 yards, eight TDs, and just two interceptions
09-02-21 | UC Davis +23 v. Tulsa | Top | 19-17 | Win | 100 | 5 h 41 m | Show |
The Aggies know how to run the ball. They don’t necessarily dominate the time of possession battle, but they’re great at keeping the chains moving with manageable third-down opportunities, and they’re able to bust off runs in chunks. 3-2 in the FCS spring session, they averaged 226 rushing yards per game and balance it all out with an efficient passing attack. The running back combination of Lan Larison and Ulonzo Gilliam will average over five yards per carry this season, the defense has a strong pass rush, and it’s an experienced enough team to not beat itself with a whole slew of mistakes.
08-28-21 | Southern Utah +24.5 v. San Jose State | Top | 14-45 | Loss | -105 | 17 h 8 m | Show |
While San Jose State suffered only one loss, one win was all that Southern Utah managed in its condensed spring 2021 campaign, a 34-24 road victory against Cal Poly. One encouraging takeaway from the Thunderbirds' 1-5 record, however, is that no single loss was by more than eight points. In fact, four of them were decided by three points or fewer. They’ll look to extract some confidence out of having so many close endings and aim to finish games on a better note, especially with both of their road losses coming by just a single point.
12-24-20 | Hawaii v. Houston -9.5 | Top | 28-14 | Loss | -107 | 11 h 27 m | Show |
The coronavirus pandemic is having an effect on this game. The game is usually played in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico but will move to Texas due to restrictions in the state. It’s the first appearance in this bowl game for both teams. Familiar territory for the Cougars will prove to be the difference.
12-12-20 | Fresno State v. New Mexico +13.5 | Top | 39-49 | Win | 100 | 14 h 43 m | Show |
The Lobos were able to run on a Wyoming defense that should’ve been able to shut down the ground game. The Fresno State run defense has struggled. Utah State and UNLV aren’t exactly dominant on the ground, but they were able to get things going, and Hawaii ripped off 323 yards in the opener. New Mexico won’t throw on the Bulldogs, but if they can rip off yards in chunks they'll cover this double digit number.
12-12-20 | LSU +23.5 v. Florida | Top | 37-34 | Win | 100 | 10 h 17 m | Show |
Florida’s mindset might be on the SEC Championship next week, there’s not enough of a ground game to worry about, and there’s just enough of a Tiger pass rush to get a little bit of pressure on Kyle Trask. For all of the great things the Gators are doing, they’re not quite putting games away like Alabama is.
12-12-20 | North Carolina +3 v. Miami-FL | Top | 62-26 | Win | 100 | 7 h 4 m | Show |
Miami might have a gaudy record and a slew of fun playmakers including an elite quarterback, but they haven’t had to deal with a whole lot of high-end offenses. The Canes gave up 550 yards to Clemson, over 500 to Louisville, and over 400 to NC State. They won two of them, but now they have to deal with the most balanced and dangerous attack outside of Clemson’s.
12-10-20 | Florida Atlantic v. Southern Miss +9.5 | Top | 31-45 | Win | 100 | 6 h 13 m | Show |
The FAU passing game has hit 200 yards once – against a hapless UMass team – and the O as a whole is only averaging 329 yards and 18 points per game. The Southern Miss defense hasn’t been a rock, but it’s been able to hold up well against mediocre offenses – it hasn’t t allowed more than 304 yards in any of the last three games.
12-05-20 | UCLA v. Arizona State -2.5 | Top | 25-18 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 20 m | Show |
If all goes well, UCLA will bring its starting quarterback out of a two-week quarantine to play an opponent staging its home opener in early December after having its last three games canceled. UCLA’s two victories this season came against California and Arizona, teams that are a combined 0-6.
12-05-20 | Boston College v. Virginia -3.5 | Top | 32-43 | Win | 100 | 5 h 34 m | Show |
Boston College isn’t getting into the backfield at all. The program that used to be known for a whole lot of sacks and a whole bunch of big plays behind the line is last in the ACC at generating tackles for loss and doesn’t have enough of a pass rush to matter. Virginia leads the ACC in tackles for loss allowed and has one of the best pass rushes in the nation.
12-05-20 | Ohio State v. Michigan State +23.5 | Top | 52-12 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 30 m | Show |
Ohio State still has to clear two more rounds of daily testing before they actually take the field. Until the Buckeyes release their Game Day Status Report on Saturday morning, we still don't know exactly who won't be available for Ohio State this weekend. Too much uncertainty from Ohio State to lay this big number.
12-04-20 | UL-Lafayette +3 v. Appalachian State | Top | 24-21 | Win | 100 | 14 h 48 m | Show |
Louisiana's offense is firing. The Cajuns have mauled opposing defenses in their last four games. The Cajuns are averaging better than 44 points and 500 yards over that span.
11-27-20 | Oregon v. Oregon State +13 | Top | 38-41 | Win | 100 | 11 h 32 m | Show |
There aren’t enough plays in the backfield so far on a consistent basis, it got run over way too easily by UCLA, and the team overall hasn’t been nearly as sharp or as dominant as it should be. Oregon State is dangerous. RB Jermar Jefferson has been phenomenal so far – 120 yards or more in all three games – QB Tristan Gebbia has been inconsistent, but okay, and the team is bringing just enough pop to keep up the pace with whatever Oregon does.
11-27-20 | UMass +37.5 v. Liberty | Top | 0-45 | Loss | -108 | 3 h 24 m | Show |
The Minutemen need to force a few fumbles, they have to at least move the chains a bit, and they have to hope the Flames are a bit down after the brutally-tough close loss to NC State last week to ruin the perfect season.
11-26-20 | Washington Football Team +3 v. Cowboys | Top | 41-16 | Win | 100 | 7 h 53 m | Show |
While Colt McCoy taking over as Redskins QB will generate the most headlines this week, this game is likely to be won in the run game. When Washington beat Dallas last month, the Redskins held Ezekiel Elliott to just 33 yards on the ground in a stout defensive effort.
11-26-20 | Texans v. Lions +3 | Top | 41-25 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 6 m | Show |
It’s not like Houston’s defense is shutting anything down on a consistent basis. Part of the reason the Texan passing game is rocking is to make up for the problems on the defensive side. Houston is dead last in the NFL against the run and no one has picked off fewer passes.
11-21-20 | Tennessee v. Auburn -10 | Top | 17-30 | Win | 100 | 9 h 22 m | Show |
The running game isn’t working, the passing attack managed 107 yards against Arkansas, and nothing seems to be happening even with the offensive line not playing all that poorly.
11-21-20 | California -2 v. Oregon State | Top | 27-31 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 23 m | Show |
A lot of Cal’s struggles against UCLA could be attributed to the fact that it was the Bears’ first game of the season and much of their preparation time was restricted by the absence of all their defensive linemen for COVID-19-related reasons. There is no such excuse this week, as the defensive linemen returned to practice this week
11-21-20 | Illinois +17 v. Nebraska | Top | 41-23 | Win | 100 | 3 h 16 m | Show |
Nebraska has to deal with the dynamic sort of playmaker its offense has been looking for on a consistent basis in the Scott Frost era.
11-20-20 | New Mexico v. Air Force -7.5 | Top | 0-28 | Win | 100 | 16 h 5 m | Show |
The stats don’t tell the story for the New Mexico defense. The front doesn’t generate a lick of pressure or plays in the backfield, and the reason for the great numbers against the run are because everyone spent so much time throwing the ball.
11-20-20 | Purdue +2 v. Minnesota | Top | 31-34 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 54 m | Show |
Purdue: Aidan O'Connell, quarterback: He is a pretty accurate quarterback and calm in pressure situations. Counting the Nebraska game last year where he entered in the 4th quarter because Jack Plummer broke his ankle he engineered three game-winning drives in the last five minutes in his first five games. He is generally an accurate thrower and makes good decisions most of the time.
11-20-20 | Syracuse +19.5 v. Louisville | Top | 0-30 | Loss | -115 | 14 h 10 m | Show |
I'll take Syracuse against a team that can't help but to turn the ball over with three giveaways in each of the last two games and five times overall. The Syracuse secondary might have lost key talents, but the defense leads the ACC in takeaways and the D overall hasn’t been gouged lately. It hasn’t been a rock, but if Louisville’s offense keeps having issues with picks, the Orange will stay alive.
11-19-20 | Tulane v. Tulsa -5.5 | Top | 24-30 | Win | 100 | 8 h 5 m | Show |
Tulsa held the Oklahoma State offense to just 16 points in the opener, and it was able to hold its own in wins over high-powered UCF and SMU teams, especially against the run. It kept the SMU passing attack from going off, but to beat Tulane it’s mostly about keeping the dangerous running game from going off.
11-18-20 | Northern Illinois +15 v. Ball State | Top | 25-31 | Win | 100 | 14 h 53 m | Show |
Ball State is seeking its first winning streak over Northern Illinois since 2007-08. Prior to last year's 27-20 victory in DeKalb, the Huskies had defeated the Cardinals 10 straight times. Ball State enters this game giving up 449.5 yards and 34.5 points per game. The Cardinals have been particularly susceptible to the pass (269.0 ypg, 10th in MAC) in the early going with no interceptions through two games compared to 15 last year, which led the conference.
11-17-20 | Akron +25.5 v. Kent State | Top | 35-69 | Loss | -110 | 14 h 55 m | Show |
The defense wasn’t all that bad against a good Ohio team last week. The D has been okay on third downs, the offensive line isn’t allowing a ton of plays behind the line, and freshman QB Zach Gibson is promising, hitting 18-of-30 passes in each of his first two games with a few big plays last week. The Kent State O line will give up plays in the backfield.
11-14-20 | Arkansas v. Florida -17 | Top | 35-63 | Win | 100 | 9 h 20 m | Show |
Arkansas has played poor passing teams in Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn and Tennessee, so the Razorbacks pass defense may be a little inflated. Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond was 21 of 26 for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Florida isn’t getting enough credit for a defensive turnaround. If that continues and the Gators hold Arkansas below its season averages, the team in orange and blue will easily cover.
11-14-20 | TCU +3.5 v. West Virginia | Top | 6-24 | Loss | -115 | 3 h 25 m | Show |
TCU is in revenge mode after a 20-17 loss in Fort Worth last season. The Horned Frogs put 34 points on the board last week in a win over Texas Tech and scored 33 in their defeat of Baylor a week before that. The team has averaged more than 270 rushing yards per game in the last two weeks. Quarterback Max Duggan has combined with running backs Darwin Barlow and Zach Evans to give the Horned Frogs a multifaceted ground game.
11-11-20 | Eastern Michigan v. Ball State -8 | Top | 31-38 | Loss | -117 | 11 h 7 m | Show |
Caleb Huntley is among the MAC’s best running backs – he tore off 130 yards and two scores – and Drew Plitt is a veteran passer who should be able to hit the rebuilding EMU secondary for close to nine yards per pass. The Cardinals are better equipped for some sort of a shootout. They steadily scored last week and should keep the pressure on all game long.
11-10-20 | Miami-OH +9.5 v. Buffalo | Top | 10-42 | Loss | -103 | 10 h 40 m | Show |
The defending MAC champs continue to be one of those Find A Way teams, but now it has more of an offense to help the cause. AJ Mayer has taken over the quarterbacking gig, and he pitched a gem in the 38-31 win over Ball State, leading the way to 28 second half points in the late rally. He finished with 212 yards and three touchdowns, the running game did just enough to get by, and again, there was actually a Miami offense to worry about after so many struggling performances last year. Even bigger was a huge day from a defensive front that lived in the Ball State backfield. The combination of Lonnie Phelps and Dominique Robinson combined for four of the team’s six sacks, there were enough big stops late to survive
11-10-20 | Akron +28 v. Ohio | Top | 10-24 | Win | 100 | 9 h 15 m | Show |
The Ohio offense wasn’t able to dominate in the loss to Central Michigan. If it’s working like it’s supposed to, it gets the ground game going and controls the tempo – it didn’t do that. Akron’s run defense was pushed too much in the 58-13 loss to Western Michigan, but the combination of Jeremiah Knight and Teon Donald ran well, and the offensive front wasn’t all that bad even though there were a few too many plays allowed in the backfield. Slow down the Bobcat running game just enough, average over four yards per carry again and we'll have an easy winner.
11-04-20 | Bowling Green +23.5 v. Toledo | Top | 3-38 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 9 m | Show |
The combination of a strong offensive line, a decent stable of running backs, and a promising Matt McDonald at quarterback, the Falcons should be able to stay within this generous number.
11-04-20 | Buffalo v. Northern Illinois +14 | Top | 49-30 | Loss | -114 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
The defense has a shot to keep this in range. The line has to undergo an overhaul, but the linebacking corps is expected to be a huge improvement and the secondary is going to be among the MAC’s best. The offense might have a slew of concerns, but it’s going to come out with an attitude after last year, and it’s going to try blasting away from the start. Can the Huskies frustrate the Bulls? NIU will own the time of possession battle
10-31-20 | Nevada v. UNLV +14 | Top | 37-19 | Loss | -110 | 18 h 48 m | Show |
The shame in this is Covid has prevented a packed house at the brand new Allegiant Stadium, home of the Raiders and the Rebels. This will be the first sporting event that will have some fans since March. This is also one of the biggest rivalries that no one knows about and its between the athletes and fans. The winner of the game gets to paint the Fremont Cannon either blue or another coat of red paint for the third straight year. A few players are back on the depth chart after not being on there last week. Senior offensive lineman Matt Brayton is back and could play. The Rebels get some depth back at tight end with Giovanni Fauolo returning (he will have to sit the first half due to his involvement in the fight against UNR at the end of last season), and freshman Alex limes returns. Look for the Rebels to control the clock and be there in the end for an outright victory.
10-31-20 | Virginia Tech -3.5 v. Louisville | Top | 42-35 | Win | 100 | 9 h 5 m | Show |
Virginia Tech has been the more productive offense this season — averaging nearly 10 more points and 60 yards a game. Virginia Tech is 11-4 after losses during Justine Fuente’s tenure with memorable bounce-back wins in 2019 (over Miami) and 2018 (over Virginia). Tech has to make sure last week’s 10 penalties for 112 yards was a fluke.
10-31-20 | Ole Miss v. Vanderbilt +18 | Top | 54-21 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 18 m | Show |
The Vanderbilt Commodores have tried to make up for lost time, hoping unexpected practice time will be evident when they finally play their first game in three weeks. Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason says he had more offensive players available over the past two weeks, giving more time for freshman quarterback Ken Seals to work with teammates on timing, pass protection and improving his reads on pass plays. The Ole Miss secondary has been hit by COVID issues and injuries.
10-30-20 | Hawaii +1.5 v. Wyoming | Top | 7-31 | Loss | -110 | 16 h 39 m | Show |
The Rainbows 323 yards put up on Fresno State in the season-opening 34-19 win were the most by the program since putting up 344 in a win over Nevada back on early October of 2016. QB Chevan Cordeiro ripped off several big runs, Miles Reed came up with a 109-yard day, and the program known for its high-powered passing game was consistently good for a full four quarters.
10-30-20 | Minnesota v. Maryland +20 | Top | 44-45 | Win | 100 | 14 h 7 m | Show |
Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa didn't look bad physically, but he made several bad decisions, including a couple of picks when throwing into double coverage. He focused too much on the deep ball and was hesitant to run when opportunities presented themselves. It was his first college start, so mistakes are to be expected. It will be telling to see how much he improves on Saturday. I think we'll see a dramatic improvement against the Gophers.
10-23-20 | UL-Lafayette -2.5 v. UAB | Top | 24-20 | Win | 100 | 6 h 21 m | Show |
The Ragin’ Cajuns suffered their first loss of the season in their last game, which dropped them out of the top 25. They will be trying to bounce back from the loss with a win over the Blazers, which will give them their fourth win in their last five games. Louisiana has played well offensively, averaging 28 points per game. The team is averaging 224 passing yards and 186.5 rushing yards per game. Late information has come across that should allow Levi Lewis to have a big game.
10-23-20 | Tulsa v. South Florida +11 | Top | 42-13 | Loss | -108 | 13 h 8 m | Show |
The USF offense hasn’t been bad and might be close to turning a corner. There’s more of a passing game after having a problem getting it going early in the season, and the ground attack has the upside to be better if the line can just be a bit more consistent. Win the turnover battle and the Bulls may just pull off the upset.
10-22-20 | Arkansas State v. Appalachian State -13.5 | Top | 17-45 | Win | 100 | 3 h 28 m | Show |
App State hasn't played since a meeting with Marshall in late September, so they should be rested and focused on a high powered red Wolves offense. App State brings a defense that ASU has not seen so far in 2020 and I think that will be the difference at the Mountaineers roll.
10-17-20 | Army v. UTSA +8 | Top | 28-16 | Loss | -105 | 9 h 19 m | Show |
The UTSA run defense has been good. It had problems against UAB, but that was the only time it allowed more than 200 rushing yards. After getting hammered for over five yards per carry and 28 rushing scores last year, the Roadrunner D has tightened up giving up just six rushing scores so far and allowing 4.2 yards per carry. The defense is doing a fantastic job of getting into the backfield, it’s among the best in the nation in forcing takeaways – coming up with ten – and when it comes to third downs, it’s even better than Army is at getting off the field. Throw in an offense that’s been far stronger than it was last year, and it has the ability to make Army press a bit.
10-17-20 | Kansas v. West Virginia -22 | Top | 17-38 | Loss | -105 | 9 h 47 m | Show |
Kansas has never been a team that I like to have my money on. They've failed to cover six of their last seven games while the Mountaineers have covered 4 of their last 6.
10-17-20 | South Florida +13 v. Temple | Top | 37-39 | Win | 100 | 8 h 25 m | Show |
Yes, it was against Navy, but the Owl run defense was horrific allowing 251 yards rushing against the triple option in a 31-29 loss. Before we say Navy does that to everyone, the Midshipmen came into that game second to last in scoring offense in the AAC, similar to South Florida this week. Jordan McLeod will get the start at quarterback for the Bulls after looking sharp against East Carolina. He is a guy who is athletic while limiting mistakes. He also has plenty of motivation after being sacked nine times in a 17-7 loss last season to Temple. The Owls will be dogs in three of their next four games so this is likely a look ahead spot for Temple.
10-16-20 | SMU v. Tulane +6.5 | Top | 37-34 | Win | 100 | 13 h 7 m | Show |
The 4-0 Mustangs will look to improve to 5-0 ahead of a massive matchup next week in Dallas against Cincinnati, which saw its game against Tulsa postponed over COVID-19 issues. We've seen this many times with SMU being in a look ahead spot. The big question is how SMU fares without McDaniel and Roberson for a whole game and preparing without the pair of starters for the Mustangs. Without Roberson, SMU lost an explosive playmaker who was leading the nation in yards after catch and was on his way to a historic season.
10-15-20 | Georgia State v. Arkansas State -3 | Top | 52-59 | Win | 100 | 14 h 54 m | Show |
The Red Wolves are still cranking up the offense – they’re second in the Sun Belt – but the defense isn’t holding up its end of the bargain. However, it’s taking the ball away forcing three turnovers in each of the last two games. Georgia State’s defense is allowing too many yards through the air, and the Arkansas State quarterbacks are rolling. Logan Bonner and Layne Hatcher are each able to move the offense, and they each have an emerging superstar to throw to. WR Jonathan Adams has been brilliant with six catches or more in every game with a 101-yard game last week against Central Arkansas and five touchdowns overall.
10-14-20 | Coastal Carolina v. UL-Lafayette -7 | Top | 30-27 | Loss | -112 | 14 h 17 m | Show |
Louisiana is coming off the program's best season, after head coach Billy Napier guided the team to an 11-3 finish in 2019. The Ragin' Cajuns have won back-to-back Sun Belt West Division titles and are 14-4 in conference play over the last three years. Louisiana's defense showed marked improvement last season and finished 2019 ranked No. 1 in the Sun Belt in fewest points allowed per game (19.7). And under new play-caller Patrick Toney, this unit has picked up where it left off last season.
10-10-20 | Alabama v. Ole Miss +23.5 | Top | 63-48 | Win | 100 | 13 h 33 m | Show |
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was Nick Saban's offensive coordinator for three seasons at Alabama.Alabama's young pass defense did not play up to the Saban standard in the victory against the Aggies or in a 38-19 victory against Missouri a week earlier. After not having a reception in Ole Miss' first game against Florida, Jonathan Mingo had eight catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns at Kentucky. He is the first Rebel with at least 125 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in a road game since Donte Moncrief on November 17, 2012, against LSU.
10-10-20 | Florida State +21 v. Notre Dame | Top | 26-42 | Win | 100 | 12 h 50 m | Show |
10-10-20 | Virginia Tech +3 v. North Carolina | Top | 45-56 | Loss | -103 | 7 h 5 m | Show |
Virginia Tech has won four straight against North Carolina dating back to 2016. The last two meetings, however, have each been decided by three or fewer points. Last year's meeting went into six overtimes. The Hokies have rushed for 638 yards this season, their most through two games in the last 25 seasons. Their 319.0 rushing yards per game in 2020 is second in the FBS (minimum two games) behind Army (350.5).Khalil Herbert had a school-record 358 all-purpose yards against Duke, rushing for 208 yards while adding 150 yards as a kick returner. He is the first Hokie with a 200-yard rushing game since Darren Evans rushed for 253 yards on November 6, 2008.
10-10-20 | UL-Monroe +16 v. Liberty | Top | 7-40 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 32 m | Show |
10-09-20 | Louisville v. Georgia Tech +5 | Top | 27-46 | Win | 100 | 12 h 28 m | Show |
Louisville's offense is led by quarterback Malik Cunningham, who has thrown for 757 yards and seven touchdowns, but has been picked off five times. He struggled against the Pitt defense, throwing for only 107 yards with three interceptions. Cunningham was taken off the field after a hard tackle against Pittsburgh, but he returned to practice during the team's off week and will start. True freshman Jahmyr Gibbs and redshirt freshman Jamious Griffin have shown signs why they were two of the team's prized signees the last two springs. Gibbs has rushed for 171 yards and one touchdown and caught six passes, two for scores, and Griffin has rushed for 140 yards and one touchdown.
10-04-20 | Seahawks v. Dolphins +5.5 | Top | 31-23 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 45 m | Show |
The Dolphins picked up their first win of 2020 with a 31-13 victory over the Jaguars last Thursday, their largest victory since 2018 (18 points). After a 0-7 start to begin 2019, Miami has gone 6-6.Miami is 8-4 all-time against Seattle, including 6-1 at homeRyan Fitzpatrick threw for two scores and ran for one in Miami's win last week while also completing a career-high 90.0 percent (18/20) of his passes (minimum five attempts). He has completed 71.1 percent of his pass attempts this season after posting a 62.0 completion percentage in his first year as a Dolphin in 2019
10-03-20 | Abilene Christian v. Army -30.5 | Top | 23-55 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show |
10-03-20 | TCU +10 v. Texas | Top | 33-31 | Win | 100 | 7 h 40 m | Show |
TCU has won five of the last six games in this series, outscoring the Longhorns by 115 points over that span (206-91).TCU is looking to avoid its first 0-2 start under Gary Patterson. The last time the Horned Frogs started a season 0-2 was in 1999.The Longhorns (2-0, 1-0 Big 12) slogged through a mostly ragged second half before rallying to beat Texas Tech 63-56 on the road last week. Texas fell behind by 15 points late in the fourth quarter but scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion late in regulation to tie the game and won with a touchdown, and a defensive stand, in overtime.
10-03-20 | Baylor v. West Virginia +1.5 | Top | 21-27 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show |
The Bears aim for a first-ever road victory over the Mountaineers but Dana Lane thinks the losing streak will continue. The Bears have lost four straight games in Morgantown. West Virginia may have a better fate last week against OSU if they didn't commit 12 penalties.
10-03-20 | South Carolina +17 v. Florida | Top | 24-38 | Win | 100 | 5 h 17 m | Show |
South Carolina has just seven turnovers over its last nine games dating back to September 28 of last season, tied for the third fewest in the FBS over that span behind Oregon State and San Diego State (five each).Shi Smith had 10 catches against Tennessee in the opener after having 11 catches against the Volunteers last season. He's the only FBS player to have two 10-catch games against a single opponent since the start of last season A win for sure but the Gators looked rusty at times and until that get cleaned up I can't lay this many points.
10-02-20 | Louisiana Tech +24 v. BYU | Top | 14-45 | Loss | -100 | 15 h 45 m | Show |
Louisiana Tech began the season with a 31-30 victory at Southern Miss, then routed Houston Baptist 66-38 in its home opener as Luke Anthony threw five touchdowns and ran for another. The transfer from Abilene Christian completed 17 of 30 passes for 314 yards. "We've got some weapons out on the perimeter, and (we're) throwing the deep ball really well," Bulldogs coach Skip Holtz said. "Luke can definitely play better, but I'm really proud. He's only been in this offense five weeks, so he's really playing well. Overall, I was pleased with the way we came in and competed." The Bulldogs had 182 rushing yards among their 542 total yards.
10-02-20 | Campbell v. Wake Forest -33 | Top | 14-66 | Win | 100 | 13 h 52 m | Show |
Wake is a well coached football team who will have their way through the air with the Camels secondary.
09-28-20 | Chiefs v. Ravens -3.5 | Top | 34-20 | Loss | -100 | 16 h 55 m | Show |
Lamar Jackson is 21-3 as a starter during the regular season, with two of those losses coming against Kansas City and Mahomes in 2018 (27-24 in overtime) and 2019 (33-28). I'm more than happy to take a great team with a chip on its shoulder.
09-26-20 | NC State +6.5 v. Virginia Tech | Top | 24-45 | Loss | -105 | 15 h 36 m | Show |
The Hokies are back on the field for gameday for the first time since losing two games in a row to end 2019 -- at rival Virginia and then to Kentucky in the Belk Bowl. "We will not have a full roster," Tech HC Justin Fuente said. "I'm hoping we are able to play. We still have more tests this week. We have one on Wednesday and one on Friday. We are taking it day by day." On the other side, it will be the second game of the season for N.C. State, which is coming off a 45-42 home win over Wake Forest last weekend.
09-26-20 | Vanderbilt +30.5 v. Texas A&M | Top | 12-17 | Win | 100 | 13 h 29 m | Show |
Two returning starters for the Aggies recently opted out of the season: wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon, who led last year's squad in catches (66) and receiving yards (872), and linebacker Anthony Hines III, who ranked second last year in tackles (73) and tackles for loss (10.5). The Commodores return 11 starters on defense and a good deal of experienced depth behind its first team. Linebackers Andre Mintze and Dimitri Moore made the coaches' preseason third team, and defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo was a second-team pick.
09-26-20 | Georgia v. Arkansas +28 | Top | 37-10 | Win | 100 | 4 h 3 m | Show |
No. 4 Georgia enters Saturday's season opener at Arkansas as a big favorite, and there seems to be more talk about what the Bulldogs have coming up in the following five weeks than on the trip to Fayetteville itself. After taking on the Razorbacks, who are coming off a 2-10 season and have lost 19 consecutive SEC games, coach Kirby Smart's Bulldogs are home against Auburn and Tennessee, on the road at Alabama and Kentucky, and in Jacksonville for the annual tussle with Florida. The Bulldogs have several new faces from last season's 12-2 East Division champions, perhaps the most notable at quarterback. Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman was ticketed to succeed Jake Fromm but earlier this month announced he was opting out to prepare for the NFL draft. Southern California transfer JT Daniels and redshirt freshman D'Wan Mathis are ticketed to play against Arkansas, though when the week began Daniels was still awaiting medical clearance after recovering from last year's knee injury.
09-24-20 | UAB v. South Alabama +6.5 | Top | 42-10 | Loss | -105 | 14 h 54 m | Show |
UAB starting QB Tyler Johnston is out with a shoulder injury, and redshirt freshman Bryson Lucero is coming off a 4-of-12 day against Miami. UAB’s defensive front got ripped to shreds in the 31-14 loss to Miami a few weeks ago. It’ll be too easy, though, for the Jaguars to move the ball through this air, with the combination of Kawaan Baker and Jalen Tolbert good enough to push a UAB secondary that isn’t giving up a whole lot deep so far, but hasn’t been stretched yet.
09-19-20 | Wake Forest v. NC State +1 | Top | 42-45 | Win | 100 | 7 h 59 m | Show |
Seeing Wake Forest play last weekend only made the Wolfpack hungrier to be in a game. It also provided a chance to observe the first opponent with a scouting mindset. The Demon Deacons have won the past three meetings with NC State. The only time Wake Forest has won four straight in the series came from 1951-54. NC State is 6-1 in openers under coach Dave Doeren. This will be the first opening game against an ACC foe with Doeren in charge.
09-12-20 | Western Kentucky v. Louisville -11.5 | Top | 21-35 | Win | 100 | 15 h 33 m | Show |
One of Louisville's wins last season was a 38-21 triumph at Nashville over Western Kentucky, which was held to 288 yards of total offense. Louisville quarterback Micale Cunningham, a junior in his fourth season at Louisville, is a dual threat QB, After learning the position under Lamar Jackson in 2017, Cunningham in the last two years has rushed for 979 yards and 11 touchdowns and passed for 2,538 yards while completing 62 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. Cunningham is the difference as the Cardinals roll.
09-12-20 | Austin Peay State v. Pittsburgh -24.5 | Top | 0-55 | Win | 100 | 10 h 35 m | Show |
The good news is that the Panthers have a luxury in an experienced senior quarterback, as Kenny Pickett returns after throwing for 3,098 yards last year. Pittsburgh also returns two of its top running backs in senior A.J. Davis and sophomore Vincent Davis. Pittsburgh was dealt a blow before the season when star defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman opted out of the season to prepare for the NFL Draft, but the cupboard is not bare. The Panthers still should be imposing up front with senior defensive tackles Keyshon Camp and Devin Danielson, along with senior defensive ends Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver.
09-12-20 | Arkansas State v. Kansas State -12.5 | Top | 35-31 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 39 m | Show |
Arkansas State (0-1) opened the season last week with a 37-24 loss at Memphis. Arkansas State led Memphis 14-7 after one quarter, but the Tigers poured it on, leading by seven at halftime and by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter. Memphis gaining a total of 502 yards and the Red Wolves gaining 424. It was a matter of making the most of opportunities for Memphis. 502 is hard for me to overlook.
09-12-20 | Syracuse v. North Carolina -23 | Top | 6-31 | Win | 100 | 4 h 17 m | Show |
Syracuse has lost all six of its road games against ranked conference teams since joining the ACC in 2013. Boston College is the only other ACC team to go winless on the road against ranked conference foes in that same stretch.North Carolina ranked second in the ACC in total yards per game in 2019, averaging 474.0 per game. It was the third time since 2010 that UNC finished in the top two in the league in total yards per game, and only Clemson has had more top 2 finishes in the ACC in the last 10 seasons with seven.
01-01-20 | Baylor v. Georgia -3.5 | Top | 14-26 | Win | 100 | 6 h 58 m | Show |
The Bulldogs have not been as efficient on offense as expected but on paper they are still a better team than Baylor. The Bulldogs will cover this match-up using their superior defense.
12-08-19 | Seahawks v. Rams +1 | Top | 12-28 | Win | 100 | 4 h 33 m | Show |
The Rams need this game way more than Seattle because if they don't win they can kiss the postseason goodbye. I think the Rams offense is on the verge of finding the same explosiveness that they showed against the Cardinals last week. Goff throws for over 350 in a win against Seattle.
12-06-19 | Oregon v. Utah -6.5 | Top | 37-15 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 60 m | Show |
One final hurdle remains for the Utes who are looking to claim one of the top 4 playoff spots. In order to do so they must win but I would think they would like to win in impressive fashion. Utah lost last years title game, they'll avenge that by double digits tonight.
12-02-19 | Vikings +3 v. Seahawks | Top | 30-37 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 13 m | Show |
One of Dana's rules is to forget what he just saw, meaning, their performance against the Eagles can't be viewed as anything more than a great defensive effort against a mediocre team. The Vikings Top 7 offense will push Minnesota to victory and a cover.
12-01-19 | Patriots v. Texans +3.5 | Top | 22-28 | Win | 100 | 6 h 49 m | Show |
This is a peculiar number to me considering the Patriots have owned the Texans since 2000, winning by an average of 14 points in 11 meetings.
11-18-19 | Chiefs v. Chargers +5.5 | Top | 24-17 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 10 m | Show |
KC has failed to cover 5 of their last 7 games while the Chargers are 6-2-1 after failing to cover their previous game. The Chargers defense is finally healthy. They own a pass rush that will force Mahomes, who is coming off a dislocated knee injury, to be more mobile than he did in his return.
10-28-19 | Dolphins v. Steelers -14 | Top | 14-27 | Loss | -101 | 4 h 56 m | Show |
First, I will never have my money on the Miami Dolphins regardless of the opponent. Mason Rudolph is coming back after a concussion which will make Pittsburgh that much stronger. The Dolphins have lost 9 straight games and even though they've turned to veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick fro some stability, the Steelers are the right side here.
10-27-19 | Packers v. Chiefs +5.5 | Top | 31-24 | Loss | -105 | 4 h 23 m | Show |
This looks easy, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers seem to be getting stronger as the season moves on and the Chiefs are without starting QB Patrick Mahomes. This is still a strong home field advantage with a defense that doesn't give up many points. They are 9th in the league against the pass and back-up QB Matt Moore has enough experience to keep the game close.
10-24-19 | Redskins +17.5 v. Vikings | Top | 9-19 | Win | 100 | 5 h 20 m | Show |
A small trend is starting to form with the Redskins when on the road against teams with a winning home record. The Skins have covered 4 of their last 5 games in that situation mostly because this isn't a team that the host wants to show all their cards with a more important game on tap. 17 is too many points in this one. |
