08-27-23 | Texans v. Saints -2 | Top | 17-13 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 51 m | Show |
The Texans also must fix their run defense. Somehow, they allowed the Dolphins to gash them repeatedly. The Texans allowed Salvon Ahmed to average 8.3 yards per carry against them. Then, they let Chris Brooks average 4.3 yards-per-carry and Raheem Mostert hit 5.0 yards-per-carry.
08-26-23 | Ravens +2 v. Bucs | Top | 20-26 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 6 m | Show |
08-25-23 | Chargers +7.5 v. 49ers | Top | 23-12 | Win | 100 | 35 h 30 m | Show |
The 49ers are planning to play all of their starters in the preseason finale versus the Chargers. Typically, the third game of the preseason throughout the history of the NFL has always been viewed as the "dress rehearsal" game. It acts as a light warmup to the regular season as opposed to just throwing the starters into the deep end from the jump. But a team that is as established as the 49ers arguably doesn't need that. Playing all of the starters is a real gamble due to potential injuries, but that is something Kyle Shanahan isn't overthinking. In fact, he views this as a great benefit to his starters to play in the final preseason game. Still too many points for me
08-24-23 | Colts -4.5 v. Eagles | Top | 27-13 | Win | 100 | 32 h 2 m | Show |
Indianapolis Colts rookie Anthony Richardson is expected to start the preseason finale Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Following the joint practices Tuesday in Philly, head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that most of the starters, including Richardson, would see the field for the finale.
08-21-23 | Ravens -1 v. Commanders | Top | 28-29 | Loss | -110 | 30 h 27 m | Show |
The Baltimore Ravens play the Washington Commanders on Monday night in the second of their three preseason games. The Ravens have a chance to extend their 24-game winning streak in the preseason dating back to 2016. After a couple of lively joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday this week, this matchup is highlighted a deeper look at preseason standouts and the offense under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Quarterback Tyler Huntley looks to continue his brilliance in preseason Week 1. The fourth-year quarterback was 8-of-11 for 88 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace in the Ravens' win. Baltimore first-round receiver Zay Flowers has been tormenting his teammates in training camp and against the Commanders in joint practices. Keep an eye on the rookie on Monday night as he is slated to have a large role in Baltimore's new offense. Flowers' debut in Week 1 did not jump off the page, playing only eight snaps without a catch ... However, he impressed off the ball.
08-20-23 | Saints -3.5 v. Chargers | Top | 22-17 | Win | 100 | 29 h 8 m | Show |
On Friday in a joint practice with the New Orleans Saints, the Chargers’ ground game looked improved. This was the positive on a day when Justin Herbert and the passing attack struggled to make any bold statements. Only two teams — Tampa Bay and Houston — rushed for fewer yards last season than the Chargers. They averaged 89.6 yards per game, which was fewer than Josh Jacobs and Derrick Henry. In their first preseason game, the Chargers amassed 214 rushing yards against the Rams but that was behind mostly reserves along the offensive line and without Ekeler suiting up. I think the Chargers will take a step back this week with this being a somewhat dress rehearsal if the game is played at all.
08-19-23 | Bills v. Steelers +1 | Top | 15-27 | Win | 100 | 9 h 59 m | Show |
08-17-23 | Browns +4 v. Eagles | Top | 18-18 | Win | 100 | 7 h 58 m | Show |
Dorian Thompson-Robinson has put in two strong performances so far. While no amount of preseason heroics will displace Deshaun Watson, the rookie's trajectory is worth watching on two levels. First, backup quarterbacks do matter; it's easy to write them off, but you don't want to be without a reliable No. 2 option when the starter goes down. If Thompson-Robinson can continue to prove himself, he might enter the season as the Browns' secondary signal-caller. Beyond that, preseason can be an opportunity for a player to put himself in the shop window. Even if he doesn't show enough to secure the Browns' backup job, DTR could show enough to earn a job with another organization. You never know who's watching a performance, and when that scout or executive will come calling.
08-13-23 | Chiefs +1.5 v. Saints | Top | 24-26 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 16 m | Show |
On offense, the progress of the Chiefs' young wide receivers is far and away the most intriguing element. With Kadarius Toney out, it remains to be seen how much starters such as Skyy Moore and potentially Marquez Valdes-Scantling will play. There's a clear drop-off after that, though, which could lead to the likes of rookie Rashee Rice, second-year wideout Justyn Ross, and veteran Richie James getting plenty of snaps. Kansas City's receiver room is loaded with youth, and the preseason presents an opportunity for everyone to shine.
08-12-23 | Eagles +5 v. Ravens | Top | 19-20 | Win | 100 | 28 h 10 m | Show |
08-12-23 | Colts v. Bills +4 | Top | 19-23 | Win | 100 | 22 h 18 m | Show |
08-03-23 | Jets v. Browns +2.5 | Top | 16-21 | Win | 100 | 56 h 45 m | Show |
Like the Jets, the Browns went 7-10 last year and are hoping to be a player in the AFC playoff race this season. This will be the first full season in Cleveland for Deshaun Watson, who split his six starts last season while completing just 58.2 percent of his throws in those games. Watson will again lean on the running of Nick Chubb, a Pro Bowler each of the last four years. Last year, Chubb ran for a career-high 1,525 yards that included 12 touchdown runs and a 5 yards-per-carry average. Thursday night will be Browns fans' first look at rookie Cedric Tillman, a third-round pick who caught 64 passes for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final season at Tennessee. Also making his NFL debut for Cleveland is quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick who threw for 3,154 yards and 27 touchdowns last fall while guiding UCLA to a 9-4 record.
08-13-22 | Cowboys v. Broncos -3.5 | Top | 7-17 | Win | 100 | 11 h 44 m | Show |
We won't see Russell Wilson but there are many regular Broncos that will see significant time, like Montrell Washington. In their joint practice Thursday, the Broncos' offense held a major advantage throughout.
08-27-21 | Vikings +4 v. Chiefs | Top | 25-28 | Win | 103 | 14 h 10 m | Show |
Kansas City's offense will be led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes who looked okay in the second preseason game. In that game, he completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 78 passing yards and zero touchdowns. However, he also threw one interception and this number smells like a trap.
08-13-21 | Bills v. Lions -1 | Top | 16-15 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 53 m | Show |
While the preseason will always be an exhibition and nothing more, it seems notable looking back that Patricia lost his first game 16-10 against the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2018. During that game, the Lions started slow, looked disorganized at times, and struggled on both sides of the ball all around. Two years later, many of those same problems were still dogging Patricia’s team, leading to his eventual dismissal. While the first preseason game shouldn’t mean everything in terms of judgment, it can certainly help get things off on the right foot for the franchise at a critical time on the field. For Campbell, the hope is things go smoother than the 2018 preseason and regular-season opener. From the start, the old coaching staff seemed to be behind the eight-ball. Campbell cannot watch that play out for his tenure. Win or lose, there has to be a feeling of organization that Patricia never achieved.
08-05-21 | Cowboys v. Steelers -1.5 | Top | 3-16 | Win | 100 | 34 h 49 m | Show |
There isn't one team that Dana Lane follows closer than the Dallas Cowboys. The concern for me starts with the Cowboy quarterbacks. We're aren't going to see Dak Prescott in this one with his back-ups presenting a significant drop in talent. Mike McCarthy wants to see Garrett Gilbert for the first half with Cooper Rush and Ben DiNucci cleaning up. Rush could be the one that will end up on the waiver wire to end camp. Regardless of who plays, I can't envision the Boys putting up enough points to cash a ticket in this one. Every one of these signal-callers has had average camps at best.
08-24-18 | Packers v. Raiders -6 | Top | 6-13 | Win | 100 | 20 h 15 m | Show |
Thank you for your purchase of Dana Lane TOP NFL Exhibition release. When this game cashes make sure to join Dana Lane for the rest of 2018. The Packers are going to rest all of their starters for this one, including Aaron Rogers. I'll easily lay the 6 points.
08-02-18 | Bears +2.5 v. Ravens | Top | 16-17 | Win | 102 | 7 h 15 m | Show |
Welcome back football! Tonight the Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens square off in Canton, Ohio at the annual Hall of Fame Game. I'm not going to lie and say that this is some easy match-up to handicap, just because knowing who will play and how long is a full-time job in itself. One piece of advice when tackling preseason games, watch your press conferences and follow beat writers on Twitter. Not much is known right now about how Jim Harbaugh will handle his four quarterbacks tonight but judging by reps in practice and a little reading between the lines, we should see Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffen III split time with a sprinkle of Josh Woodrum. I anticipate that RG3 will get the start for Baltimore which means Harbaugh will have a quarterback that has chip on his shoulder for sure but we don't know what exactly what his head his or what we're going to get from him. It's not out of the question that both Griffen and Lamar Jackson will be out there to work on throwing from the pocket so i don't anticipate their mobility to be on display. Harbaugh doesn't want his QB's taking any shots from defensive players looking to make a name for themselves. Lamar Jackson, the 2018 ACC athlete of the year, by all reports, is still trying to determine when to run and when to sit in the pocket and because Baltimore gets five games Harbaugh may use this opportunity to ask Jackson to stay in the pocket allowing him to work on that part of his game considering he completed just 57% of his passes at Louisville. You have to be concerned about how that will translate into the faster NFL in his first game. That's not the only reason for taking the Bears but the number is good and I'm more than willing to take points in game one. |
