10-22-23 | Steelers +3.5 v. Rams | 24-17 | Win | 100 | 26 h 48 m | Show
Kenny Pickett was an early-enrollee freshman at Pitt when he first met Aaron Donald, who still spends every offseason training at his alma mater. Although the teenage quarterback understandably didn't become fast friends with the All-Pro defensive lineman, Pickett credits the Los Angeles Rams star with more help in his football career than even Donald realizes. The Steelers have made it a point to bring left tackle Broderick Jones and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. - their top two picks in the draft - along slowly. It may be nearing time to take the training wheels off. Jones played well in his first NFL start two weeks ago against Baltimore, making his first career interception off Lamar Jackson in the end zone to set up Pittsburgh's game-winning drive. Jones could return to the bench against Los Angeles with Dan Moore likely returning from a knee injury, but Porter could see more playing time. He played a season-high 40% of the defensive snaps against Baltimore and has the size at 6-foot-2 to match up with Rams rookie sensation Puka Nacua.
10-22-23 | Raiders v. Bears +3 | Top | 12-30 | Win | 100 | 23 h 56 m | Show |
ndrafted rookie Tyson Bagent will start at quarterback for the Chicago Bears when they host Las Vegas on Sunday with Justin Fields recovering from a dislocated right thumb. The Raiders will also be going with a backup quarterback, with all signs pointing to veteran Brian Hoyer replacing the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Las Vegas' other option is rookie Aidan O'Connell. Both starters left games last week. Fields got hurt when he was sacked early in the third quarter against Minnesota. Chicago (1-5) lost for the 15th time in 16 games, falling 19-13 to the Vikings. Garoppolo missed the second half of a 21-17 win over New England with a back injury. Bagent, who went undrafted last spring after a record-setting career at Division II Shepherd University in West Virginia, is ready for his opportunity. He said he and his dad, Travis, had a feeling early on that he would play in the NFL. But he wasn't sure he would get a chance to start again after his final college game.
10-22-23 | Lions v. Ravens UNDER 43 | Top | 6-38 | Loss | -110 | 23 h 38 m | Show |
Two years ago, it took Dan Campbell a dozen games to earn his first victory as coach of the Detroit Lions. That win would have come much earlier if not for Baltimore's Justin Tucker, whose 66-yard field goal handed Campbell and his team a crushing home defeat in September of that season. Campbell and the Lions stayed the course through that difficult 2021 season. After the loss to the Ravens, quarterback Jared Goff said defiantly that “the gut punches will stop” - and now, as Detroit prepares to face Baltimore again Sunday, Motown's team is in a much different place. This is a matchup of division leaders. In fact, the Lions are one of five teams in a tie for the NFL's best record. This will be the first home game in four weeks for the Ravens (4-2), although in one sense that might be a relief for the Lions, given what Tucker has done at Detroit's Ford Field. He kicked a 61-yard field goal there to beat the Lions in 2013, then outdid himself with a record-long boot from 66 two seasons ago. That was the third game of Campbell's first season. The Lions didn't win one until December.
10-19-23 | Jaguars v. Saints -1 | Top | 31-24 | Loss | -110 | 15 h 16 m | Show |
The Jacksonville Jaguars have looked like one of the hottest teams in the NFL during the past three weeks. But that was with a healthy franchise quarterback. Now Trevor Lawrence aims to play through a sprained left knee as the Jaguars (4-2) visit the New Orleans Saints (3-3) on Thursday night. Lawrence's injury occurred in the final minutes of a 37-20 victory over Indianapolis on Sunday, leaving him little more than three full days to recover before Jacksonville's offense goes up against one of the top-performing defenses in the NFL. The Saints rank fifth in the NFL in total defense and fifth against the pass. Their eight interceptions puts them in a six-way tie for second most in the NFL (a group that also includes the Jaguars).
10-19-23 | Jaguars v. Saints UNDER 40 | Top | 31-24 | Loss | -110 | 15 h 7 m | Show |

The Saints rank fifth in the NFL in total defense and fifth against the pass. Their eight interceptions puts them in a six-way tie for second most in the NFL (a group that also includes the Jaguars). Lawrence has completed 67% of his passes for 1,439 yards, with seven touchdowns and three interceptions this season. But he also has been sacked 16 times. If he doesn't play in New Orleans, backup C.J. Beathard could make his first start in more than two seasons. Since stumbling to a 1-2 start, the Jaguars have played considerably better in consecutive victories over Atlanta and Buffalo in England, and over Indianapolis at home in Week 6.
10-16-23 | Cowboys v. Chargers OVER 51 | Top | 20-17 | Loss | -110 | 54 h 45 m | Show |
The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers have different reasons to be happy they get extra time to prepare for each other. Monday night's game gives the Cowboys (3-2) an extra day to deal with the shock of their 42-10 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. The Chargers (2-2) are coming off their bye week and will have some key starters back. Quarterback Justin Herbert is dealing with a fractured middle finger on his left non-throwing hand that is not expected to keep him from playing. While Dallas' 28-16 loss at Arizona on Sept. 24 was surprising, the defeat at San Francisco hit the Cowboys differently.
10-16-23 | Cowboys -1.5 v. Chargers | Top | 20-17 | Win | 100 | 54 h 42 m | Show |
One positive for the Cowboys: They are 9-1 in games following a loss since the start of 2021. Los Angeles is expected to have running back Austin Ekeler and safety Derwin James back for its first prime-time game of the season. Ekeler rushed for 117 yards in the opener against Miami but was sidelined the past three games with an ankle injury. James suffered a hamstring injury at Minnesota on Sept. 24 and was inactive the following week against Las Vegas.
10-15-23 | Patriots v. Raiders UNDER 41.5 | 17-21 | Win | 100 | 28 h 28 m | Show
It's Patriots East against Patriots West on Sunday, teams with a lot of similarities in desperate need of a victory. The New England Patriots are 1-4 and looking for any kind of spark after losing by a combined 72-3 the past two weeks. Quarterback Mac Jones was benched in both games, and it's the most adversity New England has faced in coach Bill Belichick's 24 years on the job. The Las Vegas Raiders have been a landing spot for former Patriots under coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, both ex-members of that organization. The Raiders' situation isn't much better than New England's, but at 2-3 they found some breathing room by beating the Green Bay Packers 17-13 on Monday night. They need to win Sunday to salvage realistic hopes of a playoff berth as the schedule weakens.
10-15-23 | Vikings v. Bears OVER 43.5 | Top | 19-13 | Loss | -110 | 26 h 1 m | Show |
Now that their 14-game slide is over, it sure seems like a good time for the Chicago Bears to start a different kind of streak. After all, they won't have to worry about containing one of the NFL's most electrifying players when they host Minnesota on Sunday. That's because Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson is out with a hamstring injury. The Bears (1-4) won 40-20 at Washington behind another solid performance by the offense to stop a skid that dated to a Week 7 victory at New England last year. They haven't won two in a row since Weeks 16 and 17 of the 2021 season, when they beat Seattle and the New York Giants. They went 3-14 last year, the worst record in the NFL. The Bears' chance of putting together back-to-back wins seems significantly better with Jefferson on injured reserve. The 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year slipped on the U.S. Bank Stadium turf last week while trying to make a cut on his route during a third-down pass deep in Kansas City territory. He grabbed the back of his right leg and limped slowly to the sideline in the fourth quarter of a 27-20 loss. Jefferson hasn't missed a game since the Vikings (1-4) drafted him with the No. 22 overall pick in 2020. He has 36 catches for 571 yards and three touchdowns this season, and his absence for at least the next four games figures to have a profound impact. The Vikings always knew which receiver they were featuring, no matter the opponent.
10-15-23 | Seahawks v. Bengals UNDER 45 | Top | 13-17 | Win | 100 | 25 h 16 m | Show |
Ja'Marr Chase says he's been getting open all season. Even during the first three games, as injured quarterback Joe Burrow struggled to get the Bengals' pass game on track, Chase claimed to be like the 7-Eleven convenience store - always open. The Burrow-to-Chase connection - it's been a thing since they played together at LSU and won a national championship in the 2019 season - produced three touchdowns and reignited the Bengals last week in a 34-20 confidence-building win over the Arizona Cardinals. Burrow looked far more comfortable scrambling and throwing. His lack of mobility had been a struggle all season with the lingering effects of a strained calf muscle. He said Wednesday that it's “pretty close” to being 100% healed. Now the Bengals have a chance to win two in a row, go into the bye week at .500 and try to keep building momentum on the other side. Cincinnati hosts the well-rested Seattle Seahawks (3-1) on Sunday. After a loss in the season opener at home against the Los Angeles Rams, the Seahawks have won three straight before their bye week behind some first- and second-year players making major contributions as well as 33-year-old quarterback Geno Smith
10-12-23 | Broncos +10.5 v. Chiefs | Top | 8-19 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 34 m | Show |
The Denver Broncos are on their sixth head or interim coach since their most recent win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Perhaps Sean Payton will be the one to finally end the losing streak. The Broncos head to Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night for the first of two games against Kansas City this season toting one of the most incredible skids in a league that prides itself on its parity. Denver has not beaten the Chiefs since Week 2 of the 2015 season when Gary Kubiak - and Peyton Manning - proceeded to lead the Broncos to a victory in the Super Bowl. I don't think they win here either, but it will be closer than most think.
10-12-23 | Broncos v. Chiefs UNDER 47.5 | Top | 8-19 | Win | 100 | 11 h 24 m | Show |
Patrick Mahomes acknowledged that he has yet to play his best this season. The reigning league MVP already has thrown four interceptions while struggling to get help from one of the league's youngest wide receiver groups. But Mahomes is coming off a better performance in last week's 27-20 win in Minnesota and now faces what is statistically the NFL's worst defense. This number sets up too perfectly for the public to go all-in on the over. We're not falling for the trap.
10-09-23 | Packers +2.5 v. Raiders | Top | 13-17 | Loss | -115 | 10 h 8 m | Show |
Green Bay has had extra time to think about its 34-20 loss to Detroit, a Thursday night game that gave the Packers last weekend off. The Packers, who are 2-2, certainly don't want to spend extra time stewing over another defeat should they lose Monday night at Las Vegas. But that's exactly what will happen if the Raiders properly defend their home field. This is the Packers' only game in a 23-day span.
10-09-23 | Packers v. Raiders UNDER 45.5 | Top | 13-17 | Win | 100 | 10 h 51 m | Show |
Both the Packers and Raiders have struggled to run the ball, even though both teams feature an accomplished running back. Josh Jacobs, the NFL’s rushing leader last season, has run for only 166 yards while gaining just 2.7 yards per carry. The Raiders found other ways to use him Sunday against the Chargers. Jacobs caught eight passes for 81 yards to go with his 58 yards on the ground.
10-08-23 | Jets v. Broncos -2 | 31-21 | Loss | -110 | 19 h 60 m | Show
Zach Wilson silenced his naysayers - including Hall of Famer Joe Namath - for at least one week when he had perhaps the best performance of his career against K.C. With fans clamoring for newly signed backup Trevor Siemian, Wilson completed a career-best 28 passes, threw for two TDs and ran for a 2-point conversion to go with a career-high 105.2 passer rating. Next he’ll face a struggling Broncos defense with a chance to show last week was no fluke. I think it was.
10-08-23 | Eagles -3.5 v. Rams | Top | 23-14 | Win | 100 | 18 h 22 m | Show |
The Rams beat the Colts, 29-23, in overtime on the road in Week 4 after taking a 23-0 lead in the third quarter. They're the first team to blow a lead of 23+ points and still win since the Bills blew a 28-3 lead against the Rams in Week 3, 2020, but still won 35-32.The Eagles defense has been hearing whispers that they may not be as good as their record indicates. I'll take a great team with something to prove.
10-08-23 | Jaguars v. Bills UNDER 48.5 | Top | 25-20 | Win | 100 | 12 h 13 m | Show |
The Bills have won three straight games by at least 28 points, the longest such streak by any team since the Bills themselves in 2020. The only team in NFL history to win four straight games by 28+ points was the 1942 Bears.Josh Allen threw four touchdowns and no interceptions last week against Miami, his ninth career game with 4+ pass TD and zero interceptions (including postseason). Every other Bills quarterback in franchise history has combined for eight such games. The Jaguars and Bills have split their 18 all-time meetings at nine wins apiece, including a pair of Bills playoff wins (1996 & 2017, both wild card games). Each of the last six games between these teams has been decided by seven points or fewer with the last two each decided by three points.
10-05-23 | Bears v. Commanders UNDER 44.5 | Top | 40-20 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 39 m | Show |
Ron Rivera understands what the Chicago Bears are going through. In his first three seasons as coach in Washington, the former Bears linebacker and assistant dealt with one off-the-field distraction after another, from the NFL and Congress investigating owner Dan Snyder's dealings to the Drug Enforcement Administration raiding the facility and home of trainer Ryan Vermillion. Earlier this season, Rivera relished a line of questions about the long snapper situation because if that was the Commanders' biggest problem, it's good to just be worried about football. Not so much with the Bears, who are mired in chaos off the field and winless on it. They visit Washington on Thursday night with a player in exile for undisclosed reasons, their defensive coordinator gone for what he said was health and family reasons, and little reason to believe they're primed for their first victory in nearly a year.
10-02-23 | Seahawks v. Giants UNDER 47.5 | 24-3 | Win | 100 | 34 h 43 m | Show
The New York Giants are searching for answers and they face the task of playing Seattle on a day of the week the Seahawks own and in a stadium where they have never lost. The puzzling Giants (1-2), who were overmatched by both Dallas and San Francisco, will host the Seahawks (2-1) on Monday night. The Seahawks won 27-13 last year when the teams played at Seattle. Having the game at the Meadowlands is not going to make things any easier for the Giants. The Seahawks are 5-0 at MetLife Stadium, including the only Super Bowl title in franchise history. Three of the five wins have come against the Giants. And they are 28-12 all-time on Monday night, a .700 win percentage that is the best of any team. This also can be viewed as a must-win for New York, with games at Miami and Buffalo to follow.
10-02-23 | Seahawks -1 v. Giants | Top | 24-3 | Win | 100 | 34 h 46 m | Show |

10-01-23 | Raiders v. Chargers UNDER 49.5 | 17-24 | Win | 100 | 22 h 14 m | Show
Jimmy Garoppolo has been preparing as if he's going to be the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Raiders' medical staff will make the call, and that might not happen until shortly before game time. Garoppolo, who's in the concussion protocol, was limited in Thursday’s practice and has been taking part in meetings. Whether Garoppolo plays might not be decided until the weekend. The Raiders could go with 15-year veteran Brian Hoyer or rookie Aidan O’Connell. Coach Josh McDaniels said experience will not be the deciding factor if Garoppolo can't go. I don't think the Raiders score enough to push this over.
10-01-23 | Vikings v. Panthers OVER 46.5 | Top | 21-13 | Loss | -110 | 20 h 58 m | Show |
The Vikings have fumbled a league-high seven times and lost them all, and that doesn’t include two more that were negated by a defensive penalty and a borderline forward progress call. O’Connell, who led the Vikings to 13 wins in his debut season, has been as stern with his players as ever in the attempt to stop the ball-security problems, running them through a number of drills to practice hanging on. Turnovers lead to ponts.
10-01-23 | Steelers v. Texans OVER 42 | Top | 6-30 | Loss | -110 | 19 h 2 m | Show |
CJ Stroud and the Texans are coming off an impressive 37-17 win over the Jaguars last week where multiple rookies helped the team to the victory. Stroud, who was taken second overall, said he and Houston’s other first-year players feel a responsibility to turn around a team that has been among the league’s worst for the past three seasons.

09-25-23 | Eagles -5 v. Bucs | Top | 25-11 | Win | 100 | 3 h 41 m | Show |
The Eagles have the NFL’s No. 2 ranked rushing offense, averaging 178 yards per game. Hurts ran for two TDs and threw for a third against the Vikings, while D’Andre Swift finished with a career-high 175 rushing on 28 carries. Eagles test Buc's run defense tonight,
09-24-23 | Panthers v. Seahawks -4.5 | 27-37 | Win | 100 | 5 h 35 m | Show
After a shaky performance in the opener, Geno Smith was terrific in Week 2, throwing for 328 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions. Smith was able to open up an intermediate passing game that was absent against the Rams and allowed the Seahawks to push the ball downfield a little more.
09-24-23 | Chargers v. Vikings UNDER 54.5 | Top | 28-24 | Win | 100 | 11 h 48 m | Show |
The Vikings have struggled to get their ground game going, prompting the acquisition of running back Cam Akers from the Rams. Running plays have been a problem for the Vikings on the other side of the ball, too. They gave up 259 rushing yards to the Eagles, getting trampled by D'Andre Swift down the stretch when a stop or two could've translated into a comeback victory. The Chargers rushed for 234 yards in their opening loss to the Dolphins, when Austin Ekeler suffered an ankle sprain that kept him out against the Titans. Joshua Kelley would start if Ekeler is sidelined again.
09-24-23 | Texans v. Jaguars OVER 43.5 | Top | 37-17 | Win | 100 | 1 h 25 m | Show |
The Texans (0-2) have scored 29 points, which ranks 29th in the league and is slightly better than tied-for-last Carolina, Cincinnati and Las Vegas. The Jaguars (1-1) are coming off a nine-point showing in their home opener against Kansas City and are last in the league in third-down conversions (25%). Naturally that means we're going over the total
09-21-23 | Giants v. 49ers UNDER 43.5 | Top | 12-30 | Win | 100 | 4 h 49 m | Show |
09-18-23 | Browns v. Steelers +2 | Top | 22-26 | Win | 100 | 8 h 52 m | Show |
The Cleveland Browns have won in Week 1 before. They've dominated opponents the way they dominated the Cincinnati Bengals last week before. What they haven't done - at least not in the past 20 years during the regular season anyway - is beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Coaches change. Quarterbacks change. Uniforms change. Cleveland's futility at Acrisure Stadium - save for that cathartic first-round playoff win in 2020 - does not. The Browns (1-0) will walk onto the field looking to win in Pittsburgh (0-1) for the first time since 2003. And they'll do it under the lights of prime time with a chance to prove to a national audience their systematic beatdown of the Bengals in the opener was no fluke.
09-18-23 | Saints v. Panthers OVER 39 | 20-17 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 4 m | Show
Bryce Young’s longest pass completion in Week 1 went for 14 yards. Panthers coach Frank Reich knows that needs to change Monday night when Carolina hosts the division-rival New Orleans Saints. Young, the No. 1 overall pick, was limited to 146 yards passing in a 24-10 loss to Atlanta and threw two interceptions and one touchdown in his pro debut. The lack of what Reich deems “chunk plays” in the passing game - considered gains of 20 or more yards - contributed to those poor numbers, as the Falcons repeatedly keyed on short throws over the middle while daring Young to beat them deep. Expect more offense from both teams tonight.
09-18-23 | Saints -3 v. Panthers | Top | 20-17 | Push | 0 | 7 h 6 m | Show |

09-17-23 | 49ers v. Rams OVER 45 | 30-23 | Win | 100 | 7 h 37 m | Show
Much of the focus for defenses trying to slow down the 49ers offense is on recent All-Pro skill players such as Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. Receiver Brandon Aiyuk is showing he warrants plenty of attention, too: He built on his first 1,000-yard season in 2022 with a strong opener, catching all eight of his targets for 129 yards and two TDs against Pittsburgh.
09-17-23 | Colts v. Texans | Top | 31-20 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 43 m | Show |
Indy’s running game struggled mightily last week without the top two backs, 2021 NFL rushing champion Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss. Richardson had 10 carries for 40 yards, while the rest of the team logged 16 carries for 25 yards. It could be more of the same this week. While the disgruntled Taylor (ankle) is on the physically unable to perform and is out until at least Week 5, Moss’ status is unclear. He broke his right arm during training camp and didn’t return to practice until last week then was inactive for the Jacksonville game. Steichen wouldn’t even hint at whether Moss might play in Houston.
09-17-23 | Chargers v. Titans +3 | Top | 24-27 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show |
Ryan Tannehill debuted as the Tennessee Titans' starting quarterback in October 2019 with a b ig win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Music City. The veteran desperately needs a repeat performance Sunday against the same team in the Titans' home opener. Tannehill posted his worst passer rating in Tennessee's 16-15 loss in New Orleans, which also marked just the third game of his career and first since his rookie season with three interceptions and no touchdown passes. The 35-year-old quarterback in the final year of his deal watched the tape five times. We expect there to be a bounceback this week
09-14-23 | Vikings v. Eagles OVER 49 | Top | 28-34 | Win | 100 | 17 h 47 m | Show |
After ranking second-to-last in the NFL in yards allowed and giving up the fourth-most points in the league last season under defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, the Vikings turned to Flores and turned over more than half of their starting lineup. The early results for Minnesota weren’t terribly promising - the defense allowed a fourth down conversion to extend Tampa Bay’s drive for the tiebreaking field goal and later let the Buccaneers drain the final 3:52 off the clock Sunday with a 15-yard facemask penalty and two third down conversions for a 20-17 victory. Expect both offenses to be better this week.
09-14-23 | Vikings v. Eagles -6 | Top | 28-34 | Push | 0 | 17 h 44 m | Show |
Jalen Hurts skipped the preseason, the NFL MVP runner-up is simply too important to risk an injury to play a meaningless snap. He also knows how to run an offense, putting up some of the best all-around numbers by a Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in franchise history. He even led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, a feat sure to be recognized at Thursday’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. But maybe, just maybe, even with training camp and joint practices and offseason workouts, the preseason games on the sideline might have thrown off Hurts a bit says the national media. We don't belive that to be true. Eagles roll.
09-11-23 | Bills v. Jets +2 | 16-22 | Win | 100 | 31 h 57 m | Show
Aaron Rodgers has won his last nine starts when playing on Monday Night Football. Since the program began in 1970, only two quarterbacks have had longer such win streaks -- Ken Stabler (11 from 1975-80) and Steve Young (10 from 1995-99)
09-11-23 | Bills v. Jets UNDER 45.5 | Top | 16-22 | Win | 100 | 31 h 60 m | Show |
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have worked all spring and summer to get to this moment. So has Damar Hamlin. When the Jets square off against the Buffalo Bills on "Monday Night Football" at MetLife Stadium, it will mark the next step of two fascinating journeys. In front of a national TV audience and on the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Rodgers will make his highly anticipated regular-season debut for the Jets, who acquired the four-time NFL MVP from the Green Bay Packers in April. The game also will mark the Jets debut of running back Dalvin Cook, who was signed by New York during training camp to bolster its backfield behind Rodgers. Cook — whose brother James will be on the other sideline — spent his first six seasons with Minnesota and ran for at least 1,100 yards the last four years, but he was a salary cap cut this offseason. Cook had offseason shoulder surgery and started practicing with the Jets only right before the season. But he feels healthy and prepared to give New York a 1-2 punch at running back in new coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's offense with Breece Hall, who's returning from a knee injury that cut short his promising rookie season.
09-10-23 | Raiders v. Broncos OVER 43 | 17-16 | Loss | -110 | 27 h 18 m | Show
The Denver Broncos will watch running back Javonte Williams ' workload as he continues his comeback from a major knee injury that cost him most of last season. They don't expect the Las Vegas Raiders to similarly ease the league's reigning rushing champion back into action after Josh Jacobs' protracted contract dispute kept him out most of the summer. The AFC West foes kick off their seasons at Empower Field with the Broncos trying to snap a six-game losing streak to the Raiders. It's a skid many fans feel is more painful than Denver's 15-game losing streak to the Chiefs because, well, Kansas City is good, at least. The Raiders have been bad for a while. They're coming off their fourth losing season in six years. The Broncos have been even worse, posting six straight losing seasons while churning through coaches and quarterbacks.
09-10-23 | Texans +9.5 v. Ravens | Top | 9-25 | Loss | -110 | 24 h 60 m | Show |
The Ravens made some important moves of their own this offseason, although the biggest possible change — Jackson leaving — didn't happen. Baltimore signed its franchise quarterback to a new five-year deal and gave him a couple significant new targets in Odell Beckham Jr. and first-round pick Zay Flowers. Still, it's the Texans who are coming off the bigger offseason overhaul, and they can only hope it will start paying dividends soon. Their first challenge is a trip to Baltimore, where they've never won in six tries. I just think I'm not in the mood to lay almost 10 points in the first week.
09-10-23 | Bengals v. Browns +2.5 | Top | 3-24 | Win | 100 | 24 h 50 m | Show |
In just three seasons, he's taken the NFL by storm, leading Cincinnati to an unexpected Super Bowl appearance and consecutive AFC title games while establishing himself as one of the league's elite quarterbacks. Only 26, and there's hardly a flaw on his resume. Except for his record against the Browns. Burrow, who returned to practice this week after missing more than a month with a strained calf, is just 1-4 against AFC North rival Cleveland heading into Sunday's season opener, when he'll match up with Deshaun Watson and a defense that has had his number so far. Although his stats have been pretty solid - completing 66.2% of his passes with 10 touchdowns - Burrow has been a loser against the Browns. He's 23-13-1 versus everyone else.
09-07-23 | Lions +5 v. Chiefs | Top | 21-20 | Win | 100 | 35 h 35 m | Show |
Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee during the Chiefs' final practice before their opener against Detroit, leaving the status of the All-Pro tight end in question when Kansas City faces the Lions on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the injury occurred during their final full workout Tuesday but provided no other details. Players in the locker room said Kelce was hurt on a play in the red zone but was able to limp off the field on his own according to Dave Skaretta from the AP. I liked Detroit before the injury, you have to like them even more now.
09-07-23 | Lions v. Chiefs UNDER 53 | Top | 21-20 | Win | 100 | 34 h 27 m | Show |
02-12-23 | Chiefs v. Eagles UNDER 50.5 | Top | 38-35 | Loss | -110 | 176 h 6 m | Show |
The under is 5-1 in the Chiefs' last 6 vs. a team with a winning record, while the Under is 60-27 in the Eagles' last 87 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
01-29-23 | Bengals v. Chiefs UNDER 48.5 | 20-23 | Win | 100 | 30 h 12 m | Show
The Kansas City Chiefs have lost three straight games to the Cincinnati Bengals, including last year's AFC title game, when they blew an early 21-3 lead in an overtime defeat before a sea of stunned fans inside Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Mahomes, who expects to lead the Chiefs against the Bengals on a sprained right ankle in Sunday night's rematch, is likewise winless against Bengals counterpart Joe Burrow, the only quarterback to have beaten him three straight times. In other words, there's a reason the AFC North champions are imbued with a certain degree of confidence as they return to Kansas City, where the burgeoning rivals will once again determine who represents the AFC in the Super Bowl. "Your preparation leads to confidence. That's just what you see from Joe and all of our players," explained the even-keeled Bengals coach Zac Taylor, who has somehow out-schemed, out-coached, and gotten his team to out-execute Andy Reid and his Chiefs over the past 13 months. "So when they walk on the field on Sunday, they're relaxed." In fact, the Bengals are so confident that some have taken to calling the Chiefs' home "Burrowhead Stadium." Which, as you can imagine, doesn't sit well with the AFC West champs.
01-29-23 | 49ers +2.5 v. Eagles | 7-31 | Loss | -100 | 27 h 5 m | Show
The late-game meltdowns stick in San Francisco. Take the Super Bowl against Kansas City following the 2019 season. The 49ers became the third team in Super Bowl history to cough up a 10-point lead in the second half and lost to the Chiefs. Or last season's NFC title game, when a 17-7 lead unraveled because of a dropped interception, a conservative fourth-down call, and an interception on the final drive. Winner, Rams. Another blown opportunity at a championship that's hard to forget. "As you go back to last year, we were a couple of plays away from making it to the Super Bowl again," wide receiver Deebo Samuel said. "What's it really going to take for us to get there? We just have to minimize the mistakes and everybody has to be on their assignments." Near perfection. That's a pretty heady task for any team, much less one headed into Philadelphia, where the cold, an MVP finalist, and the top-seeded team in the NFC await. It's going to get crazy loud - or is it crazy and loud? - at Lincoln Financial Field. The 49ers say they're ready. They have won 12 straight games, including seven in a row since rookie Brock Purdy, a seventh-round draft pick, took over at quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo was injured.
01-22-23 | Bengals +6 v. Bills | 27-10 | Win | 100 | 2 h 36 m | Show
Joe Mixon and the Cincinnati Bengals feel disrespected. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have plenty to motivate them - starting with safety Damar Hamlin's remarkable recovery - in a season of overcoming adversity. Two teams that bonded three weeks ago in Cincinnati in deciding their since-canceled game could not proceed after Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated on the field have much to prove in an AFC divisional-round playoff showdown in Buffalo on Sunday. For the Bills, the mere sight of Hamlin making regular visits to their facility this week was uplifting. What's more, the Bills believe they're battle-tested and capable of surmounting any remaining obstacles to achieve their preseason Super Bowl aspirations.
01-22-23 | Bengals v. Bills UNDER 48.5 | 27-10 | Win | 100 | 2 h 34 m | Show
The Bills have weathered two winter storms that disrupted their schedule, mourned the death of tight end Dawson Knox's younger brother Luke in August, and rallied to their community's aid in the aftermath of a racist shooting that left 10 Black people dead at a Buffalo supermarket in May. Hamlin's collapse and recovery is but the latest - and most personal. In Cincinnati, Mixon might speak for all the Bengals in expressing his unhappiness over his team getting the short end of the stick from the NFL. Already annoyed over the Bengals being placed at a disadvantage to finish higher than the AFC's third seed, Mixon added another chip to his broad shoulders this week once the NFL began selling tickets for a potential Bills-Kansas City Chiefs matchup in the AFC championship game, which would be played in Atlanta. "To be honest, it's disrespectful," Mixon said, after the NFL's ruling to go to a neutral site kicked in once the Bills (13-3) finished the season a half-game behind Kansas City (14-3). The Bengals (12-4) were left out of the picture even though they defeated the Chiefs this season, and missed out on their opportunity to pass the Bills in the standings once their game was called off. An AFC championship between the Bengals and Chiefs will instead be played at Kansas City.
01-21-23 | Giants +8 v. Eagles | Top | 7-38 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 3 m | Show |
Take a look at all the good fortune the Philadelphia Eagles have enjoyed ahead of their postseason opener and it's no wonder they're feeling great about a Super Bowl run. Jalen Hurts is healthy (enough) after the Pro Bowl quarterback missed two games late in the year with a sprained right shoulder. All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was left off the injury report Thursday for the first time since he suffered a torn adductor late last month. The NFC postseason runs through the Linc. The Eagles went 2-0 this season against the New York Giants, their NFC East rivals who will be visiting on Saturday night. And they are the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Life is good in Philly.
01-16-23 | Cowboys v. Bucs +3 | Top | 31-14 | Loss | -120 | 9 h 34 m | Show |
Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers down a winding path to the playoffs. Dak Prescott helped the Dallas Cowboys weather significant challenges on their way to the postseason. The star quarterbacks meet Monday night in an NFC wild-card game, and they are hoping the regular-season adversity will pave the way to a Super Bowl run. "Everyone works hard to get to this point. There are no more second chances," said the 45-year-old Brady, who has the Bucs (8-9) in the hunt for a second title in three years despite finishing the regular season with a losing record for the first time in more than two decades as an NFL starter. "It's going to be hard, but we're battle-tested," the seven-time Super Bowl champion added. "We've had some tough games. Some we came back from. Some we haven't. But ... close won't be good enough going forward for anybody." Perhaps no team enters the playoffs under more of a microscope than Dallas (12-5), which lost Prescott for five games after he broke his right thumb during a season-opening loss to Tampa Bay, but remained in contention for the best record in the NFC until last weekend.
01-15-23 | Ravens v. Bengals UNDER 40.5 | Top | 17-24 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 26 m | Show |
The Bengals and Ravens play for the second consecutive week - and the third time this season - on Sunday night in a wild-card playoff game. The AFC North rivals know each other pretty well by now. "They know what we try to do on offense, we know what they try to do on defense," Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow said. "So they try to take away our bread-and-butter stuff, and they're pretty good at it." But it's the playoffs, so there's bound to be some surprises and extra intensity when the teams meet again in Cincinnati on Sunday night. Baltimore is especially motivated after going 8-9 last season and missing the playoffs for the first time in four seasons, then watching the Bengals make a Super Bowl run.
01-14-23 | Chargers v. Jaguars +2.5 | Top | 30-31 | Win | 100 | 9 h 42 m | Show |
Trevor Lawrence feels as if he's been in the playoffs the past two months. Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars were 3-7 and four games behind division-leading Tennessee in late November. It was clear they needed to find ways to start winning close games. Lawrence easily could have panicked or even packed it in. Instead, he and the Jaguars picked it up and won six of seven down the stretch, clinching the AFC South and returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Now, Lawrence will make his official postseason debut when the Jaguars (9-8) host fellow playoff newcomer Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers (10-7) in a wild-card game Saturday night. It could be the first of many postseason trips for two of the NFL's youngest rising stars.
01-08-23 | Giants v. Eagles -14 | 16-22 | Loss | -110 | 48 h 27 m | Show
Here's a familiar refrain these days around Philly: All the Eagles have to do is win one game and they are the NFC East champions, hold the No. 1 seed in the NFC, have a postseason bye and own home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Eagles couldn't reach those goals two weeks ago when they lost at Dallas. They flopped with those prizes at stake last week at home in a debacle against New Orleans. The Eagles (13-3) are out of fourth and fifth chances in the regular season to make up for another loss. With a loss Sunday to the playoff-bound New York Giants - a team the Eagles smoked 48-22 last month - Philadelphia opens the door for Dallas or San Francisco to potentially snag the top seed in the conference. There are myriad scenarios involved that could make that happen - and all start with an Eagles' loss at Lincoln Financial Field.
01-08-23 | Ravens +7 v. Bengals | 16-27 | Loss | -110 | 123 h 8 m | Show
The Ravens haven't been great head-to-head against the Bengals over the last few years but they do have a tendency to play well after a poor offensive performance. We saw the 7.5 this morning and we're grabbing that before it's gone.
01-08-23 | Ravens v. Bengals OVER 39.5 | 16-27 | Win | 100 | 46 h 40 m | Show
This is one of those games where every trend will tell you that the under is the play here, especially when you look at the recent Bengals trends. This is where experience has to come into play. The number is begging you to take the under, but we're banking on a better effort from the Ravens on offense to push this game into the winners' circle.
01-08-23 | Browns v. Steelers OVER 39.5 | 14-28 | Win | 100 | 45 h 21 m | Show
When November began, the Pittsburgh Steelers were lifeless and listless at 2-6, searching for a chance to get back to "respectability," as longtime coach Mike Tomlin put it. The Steelers did more than that over the following two months. They've entered the final week of what once appeared to be a lost season with an outside chance at making the playoffs. The only people not stunned by a second-half surge, which seemed unlikely on Halloween night, be the guys in black and gold who will host Cleveland on Sunday. Pittsburgh (8-8) needs a victory over the Browns (7-9) and losses by Miami and New England to reach the playoffs for a third straight year.
01-07-23 | Titans v. Jaguars OVER 38.5 | 16-20 | Loss | -110 | 129 h 18 m | Show
We wanted to jump on this game early in hopes of getting the best number. Once the total dropped a point, we had to get in on it early. This is a situation the Jags have been in a few times this season and certainly last year. They come off a strong defensive effort, and then can't follow that up with another, no games against the Texans and Jets don't count. This is the last missing piece in believing that I can rely on the Jags defensively. I'm still not at the point where either of these teams gives me comfort going under the total. Tennessee has not named a QB for Saturday's game but either it shouldn't scare you off the number.
01-01-23 | Vikings +3.5 v. Packers | Top | 17-41 | Loss | -110 | 55 h 32 m | Show |
The Packers can be eliminated from the playoff picture if they lose Sunday and either the Commanders win at home against the Cleveland Browns (6-9) or the Detroit Lions (7-8) win at home against the Chicago Bears (3-12). The Browns-Commanders game and Bears-Lions matchup should be finishing up right around the time the Packers and Vikings have their opening kickoff. Minnesota (12-3) is seeking its first regular-season sweep of the Packers (7-8) since 2017. The Vikings went 1-0-1 against Green Bay in 2018.
01-01-23 | 49ers v. Raiders +10 | 37-34 | Win | 100 | 54 h 19 m | Show
Kyle Shanahan remembers being impressed with Raiders quarterback Jarrett Stidham at the 2019 Senior Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers coach knows little else about Las Vegas' new starter. Stidham is a big unknown for the 49ers, who rank first in the NFL in scoring and total defense and figure to be a substantial challenge for a quarterback making his first career start. The Raiders will start Stidham the final two weeks, including Sunday when San Francisco visits, in place of the benched Derek Carr. "He can make every throw similar to Carr," Shanahan said. "But he hasn't been out there a lot, so hopefully we'll confuse him (and) make it tough for him." The change at quarterback is a signal the Raiders are moving on from Carr and looking at the big picture with the playoffs all but out of reach. That's not the case for the 49ers, who have clinched the NFC West and can still move up from the No. 3 seed. Las Vegas coach Josh McDaniels hopes inserting Stidham will revive an offense that has sputtered over the past month as the Raiders have gone 2-2, losing twice in the final minute to the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers.
01-01-23 | Panthers v. Bucs -3 | Top | 24-30 | Win | 100 | 51 h 20 m | Show |
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers don't have to sort through a bunch of potential tiebreaker scenarios to know what they need to do to win the NFC South and host a first-round playoff game. Beat the Panthers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium, and Tom Brady and the first-place Bucs (7-8) will repeat as division champions and earn a postseason berth for the third straight year regardless of what happens in the final week of the regular season. Carolina (6-9), which has won four of its past six games to play its way back into contention after firing its coach and trading its best player, can claim its first NFC South title by closing with victories over Tampa Bay and New Orleans. "We know what this game entails," Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks said. "There is no reason to talk about it."
12-29-22 | Cowboys v. Titans +13 | Top | 27-13 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 48 m | Show |
The Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans are desperately chasing division titles as the regular season winds to a close. Their approach Thursday night will be very different. Dallas (11-4) still has some hope of a second straight NFC East title with the Cowboys needing to win their final two games with Philadelphia losing at least once. Surviving Thursday night as healthy as possible is Tennessee's top priority. The only way the Titans (7-8) can win a third consecutive AFC South title is by beating the Jaguars in Jacksonville in Week 18. So if coach Mike Vrabel wants to rest as many of his Titans as possible, that's just fine with the Cowboys. "If they want to roll us the ball a couple of times and let us go from there, I'm all for that," Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott said. "We'll take it however they want to do it." Dallas has won five of six, including a 10-point comeback last week for a 40-34 win to keep Philadelphia from clinching home-field advantage throughout the postseason in the NFC. Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott couldn't agree more, even with a postseason berth already secure.
12-26-22 | Chargers v. Colts OVER 45.5 | Top | 20-3 | Loss | -110 | 23 h 5 m | Show |
The Indianapolis Colts haven't changed the game plan. They're still trying to run first, still relying on a stout defense and still trying to win games despite their ever-changing circumstances. Indy has played most of this season without three-time All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard, will be missing 2021 NFL rushing champ, Jonathan Taylor, for the final three games because of an ankle injury, and heads into Monday night's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers with its third starting quarterback, Nick Foles. Interim coach Jeff Saturday made the move for one simple reason. "It's no secret, we haven't converted in the red zone and ultimately, you've got to make plays in the NFL and we're not making nearly enough explosive plays and not making plays in the red zone," he said when announcing Matt Ryan was getting benched again. "I feel like Nick will give us a better chance to go win these last three games." It's an odd move. Indy (4-9-1) was mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with Jacksonville's win over the New York Jets on Thursday, before taking the field for its third and final prime-time game of the season. Plus, Saturday went with the 33-year-old Foles over 24-year-old Sam Ehlinger, who went 0-2 as the starter earlier this year.
12-25-22 | Broncos v. Rams +3 | 14-51 | Win | 100 | 5 h 18 m | Show
The Rams have won four straight games against Denver, most recently a 23-20 victory in the 2018 season. The Broncos' last win against the Rams in Los Angeles came in Week 6 of the 1982 season. The Broncos currently lead the NFL with 19 players on injured reserve, while the Rams are tied for third-most with 15. Last season, the Rams had the fifth-fewest games missed while on injured reserve.
12-24-22 | Commanders v. 49ers UNDER 37.5 | Top | 20-37 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 18 m | Show |
The stakes for the San Francisco 49ers down the stretch of the season aren't particularly high after they clinched the NFC West last week. The Niners are most likely slotted into either the second or third seed in the NFC with a possible second-round home playoff game in the balance. The situation is very different for Washington (7-6-1) heading into Saturday's game at San Francisco (10-4) after the Commanders lost last week to the New York Giants, putting a dent into their playoff hopes. Washington is clinging to the seventh seed but could fall out of playoff position with another loss. "I think that's a big part of the mentality that we have to take is that we've got to go out and we've got to play our best," coach Ron Rivera said. "We've got to get some things corrected and fixed and ready to go. We can't struggle in some of the areas that we have lately. Those things have to be addressed and they are being addressed." The biggest issues for the Commanders are on offense after they were held to 32 points combined in back-to-back games against the Giants and struggled to finish drives in the red zone. Now they're set to face the NFL's stingiest defense.
12-24-22 | Lions v. Panthers OVER 43.5 | 23-37 | Win | 100 | 3 h 19 m | Show
Jared Goff has the surging Detroit Lions in contention for a wild card spot. Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers still have plenty to play for as well, despite a 5-9 record. The teams clash in Charlotte on Saturday in a game that will impact NFC playoff scenarios. The Lions (7-7) have won six of their last seven games and are a half-game behind Washington in the race for the final wild-card spot. Carolina is coming off a home loss to Pittsburgh, but still controls its playoff destiny. If the Panthers win out, they'll win the NFC South title and host a playoff game in January with a losing record. The Lions are hoping Goff's playoff experience - he helped the Los Angeles Rams reach the Super Bowl four years ago - will help ready some of his younger teammates for a run at the postseason. "I think as the quarterback of the team and a leader on this team that is part of my job, but not because I have experience in it, just because that's what I'm supposed to do," Goff said. Meanwhile, Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks has informed his players and staff he doesn't want to hear a word about the playoffs, saying all their focus should be on Detroit following his team's lackluster performance against the Steelers.
12-24-22 | Bengals v. Patriots OVER 41 | Top | 22-18 | Loss | -114 | 3 h 29 m | Show |
It was 2020, the NFL draft was looming, and the world was on the brink of going into hibernation because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Joe Burrow was in Miami walking out of a steakhouse with then-Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia following a pre-draft dinner. He glanced up and saw someone else he recognized: Patriots coach Bill Belichick. "I just went up and introduced myself," Burrow recalled this week. Was there any nervousness about meeting one of the NFL's most revered coaches? "I didn't really think about it," Burrow said. "I figured he knew who I was. I just went up and introduced myself. Nothing crazy." Two years later, the pair will meet under many different circumstances. Burrow and the defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals have a chance to close in on their second straight AFC North title when they visit a Patriots team that seems far removed from its most recent Super Bowl win, which came after the 2018 season. Cincinnati (10-4) enters Saturday's game on a six-game win streak and holds a one-game division lead over Baltimore. New England (7-7) has lost three of its last four games and entered the week one game outside the final AFC playoff spot.
12-24-22 | Bills v. Bears UNDER 40.5 | Top | 35-13 | Loss | -110 | 3 h 16 m | Show |
The Buffalo Bills still have a few important goals to achieve before they turn their attention toward the biggest prize of all. They can clinch their third straight AFC East title this week, and a No. 1 seed playoff seed is in sight. For all the prizes out there, coach Sean McDermott insisted the focus is simply on beating the struggling Bears when his team visits frigid Chicago on Saturday. "We're facing a Chicago Bears team that is playing really good football right now and they play extremely hard," he said. "I think Coach (Matt) Eberflus has done a great job of changing that culture, perhaps, at least from the outside looking in, in terms of how they're playing." The Bills (11-3) clinched their fourth straight playoff berth with last week's win over Miami and would lock up the division with a win or tie against Chicago (3-11). A loss or tie by the Dolphins against Green Bay would also do it. Buffalo has the inside track toward the top seed in the AFC - and the first-round bye and home-field advantage through the conference championship game that comes with it.
12-22-22 | Jaguars v. Jets UNDER 36.5 | 19-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show
Duane Brown saw no need to downplay what was ahead for the New York Jets. Their playoff hopes have been seriously damaged by a three-game losing streak. And they've got a short week to get themselves back in the AFC postseason hunt. Next up for the Jets (7-7) is a home game Thursday night against Trevor Lawrence and the suddenly surging Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8). "We've got to win this week," said Brown, New York's left tackle. "That's the bottom line, that's all we can think about. We can't think about playoffs, next week, or other scenarios outside our team, who loses, who wins, who can help us. We have to think about Jacksonville on Thursday night and winning this ballgame. "This is a must-win in our eyes. That's how we look at it." Some might argue that's the case for the Jets from here on out. Otherwise, the NFL's longest postseason drought could stretch to 12 seasons.
12-22-22 | Jaguars v. Jets -2 | 19-3 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 2 m | Show
Zach Wilson will start a second game in five days after returning last Sunday as the Jets' starting quarterback with Mike White sidelined by a rib injury. Wilson was benched for three games to reset his mechanics and mental approach. He had an up-and-down performance against Detroit, going 18 of 35 for 317 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.
12-19-22 | Rams +7.5 v. Packers | Top | 12-24 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 49 m | Show |
This can't be what the NFL's schedule-makers and ESPN executives had in mind. When the league's slate of prime-time games came out in the spring, a mid-December matchup between the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams and the three-time defending NFC North champion Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field sounded like TV rating gold. Surely visions of gorgeous wide-angle shots of the falling snow and big-time playoff implications were dancing in their heads. But instead of a playoff preview, the "Monday Night Football" audience will get two of the NFL's most disappointing teams when the Rams (4-9) visit the Packers (5-8). Although both teams are still mathematically in playoff contention, the Rams have assured a sub-.500 record and the Packers could win out and still miss the postseason for the first time under coach Matt LaFleur.
12-18-22 | Titans +3 v. Chargers | 14-17 | Push | 0 | 5 h 59 m | Show
The Los Angeles Chargers' defense had its best game of the season last week in shutting down one of the league's top passing attacks. Their challenge Sunday will be to contain Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry. The two-time NFL rushing champ will play in his 100th regular-season game as the slumping Titans head west. Henry is second in the league with 1,199 yards rushing and needs only 4 yards to reach 8,000 for his career. Henry's focus is on snapping Tennessee's first three-game losing streak since 2018 instead of personal milestones.
12-18-22 | Patriots +2.5 v. Raiders | 24-30 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 48 m | Show
If the New England Patriots make the playoffs, their weeklong stay out West likely will be a major reason. They remained in Arizona this past week after beating the Cardinals 27-13 on Monday night, training in Tucson. That victory put the Patriots, at 7-6, in position for the seventh and final AFC playoff spot. Given that the first two teams just outside the postseason - the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets - have the same records, Sunday's game at Las Vegas is critical, especially considering the Patriots' closing stretch. New England's final three games are against teams that as of now would be in the playoffs. So instead of making two cross-country trips in a week, coach Bill Belichick decided to save the wear on his players and have them ready when they visit the Raiders (5-8).
12-18-22 | Steelers +3 v. Panthers | 24-16 | Win | 100 | 2 h 46 m | Show
Sam Darnold spent the better part of this season on the sideline in a boot, learning the importance of patience while watching other quarterbacks play. Those lessons appear to be paying off. Darnold is 2-0 since taking over as Carolina's starting quarterback and has the Panthers (5-8) in control of their playoff destiny with four games remaining. If the Panthers win out, beginning Sunday at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they'll win the NFC South. "I think the biggest thing I learned was patience," said Darnold, who was 4-7 as Carolina's starter last season. "When I'm back there, I'm taking the shots when they are there, but at the same time being patient and understanding what the situation is. First and second down, you want to stay ahead of the chains, and then on third down being able to go through my reads and use my legs if I have to." The No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL draft hasn't put up eye-popping numbers by any means, throwing for 284 yards and two touchdowns in two starts. He hasn't needed to. With the Panthers running the ball so effectively, Darnold's biggest task has been managing the game and not turning the ball over.
12-18-22 | Eagles v. Bears +9 | 25-20 | Win | 100 | 2 h 39 m | Show
Though Justin Fields has started to resemble the franchise cornerstone they hoped he would become, the Bears come out of a bye looking to stop their second six-game losing streak in three years. They haven't dropped more than six in a row since an eight-game skid in 2002 that matched a franchise record. The Bears can maybe take some comfort from Philadelphia. The Eagles lost five of their first seven games last year before going on a 7-2 run that propelled them to the playoffs.
12-18-22 | Lions v. Jets -1 | Top | 20-17 | Loss | -116 | 2 h 57 m | Show |
Robert Saleh is always quick to remind people he's an eternal optimist, thinking the best-case scenario in every situation. That's why it wasn't necessarily so stunning to hear the New York Jets coach declare after his team's loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday that the squads would meet again - in the playoffs. Saleh is also a realist. He knows in order for the Jets to snap their 11-year postseason drought, which is the NFL's longest active skid, they've got plenty more winning to do. And it needs to start Sunday at MetLife Stadium against a roaring Detroit Lions squad that has won five of its past six. "We're going to get everyone's absolute best shot because they're fighting for their lives, too," Saleh said. "And that's why we strive for December football. This is the fun stuff." After the game Sunday comes a Thursday night home game against Jacksonville (5-8) before road games at Seattle (7-6) and Miami (8-5).
12-17-22 | Dolphins +7.5 v. Bills | 29-32 | Win | 100 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Growing up in Houston, and spending his college career at Alabama, Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle acknowledged having never played in a snow game in his life. And the potential of finally doing so on Saturday night, when Miami (8-5) travels to play the Buffalo Bills (10-3) in an AFC East showdown, barely registers for the second-year player given what's at stake. When asked if he's packing extra clothes to brace for a forecast calling for cold and snow, Waddle responded by saying: "Our competitive spirit. Shoot. That's what I'm going to bring." Putting aside the distraction of weather, and how it might affect two teams with players who mostly hail from warm climates, Waddle is more focused on furthering the Dolphins' bid to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in six seasons and their outside shot to claim the division title. The Dolphins have an opportunity to sweep the season series with Buffalo following a 21-19 win in September, and just as important, snap a two-game skid that dropped them to sixth in the AFC playoff race after a 23-17 loss at the Chargers on Sunday.
12-17-22 | Colts +4 v. Vikings | Top | 36-39 | Win | 100 | 1 h 28 m | Show |
There's a connectivity and resiliency these Minnesota Vikings have crafted and harvested, helping put them on the brink of a division title despite being cumulatively outscored by their opponents. Time for another test of that character. After allowing 400-plus yards for a franchise-record fifth straight game in a defeat last week at Detroit, the Vikings (10-3) will take another crack at clinching when they host Indianapolis (4-8-1) on Saturday. The NFC North crown will be theirs with a win or a loss by the Lions. Though the Vikings were far more competitive than in earlier setbacks against Philadelphia and Dallas, the loss in Detroit furthers external doubts about whether their defense is strong enough for a deep run through the playoffs.
12-15-22 | 49ers v. Seahawks +4 | Top | 21-13 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 2 m | Show |
A few years ago, Kyle Shanahan celebrated his first division title as San Francisco's coach in the visiting locker room at Seattle after a Sunday night game on the final day of the season that was nearly decided on the final snap. Shanahan and the 49ers can repeat what they accomplished in 2019 and wrap up another NFC West title on Thursday night in Seattle against the Seahawks, but with far less stress this time. San Francisco (9-4) is the hottest team in the NFL, having won six straight, the longest active streak in the league. The 49ers have won each of their past four games by double digits, including last week's 35-7 thumping of Tampa Bay. Since their last loss at Kansas City in Week 7, the 49ers have not allowed an opponent to score more than 16 points, and a win on Thursday would be the earliest in the season they have clinched a division title since 2011.
12-11-22 | Dolphins v. Chargers UNDER 55 | Top | 17-23 | Win | 100 | 9 h 13 m | Show |
Draft Class of 2020 alums Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert are preparing to face each other for the second time - and with more at stake for their respective teams. Both quarterbacks are trying to do something classmates Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts have already accomplished: get to the postseason. Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins bring an 8-4 record into Sunday night's showdown and are in a position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Herbert's Los Angeles Chargers (6-6) haven't been to the postseason since 2018 and sit one game behind the New York Jets for the final spot in the AFC. Tagovailoa was the fifth overall pick three years ago while Herbert went one spot later. Herbert said it has been tough to build camaraderie with his classmates because of how COVID-19 affected the draft.
12-11-22 | Chiefs v. Broncos OVER 44 | Top | 34-28 | Win | 100 | 5 h 55 m | Show |
Forget "We're on to Cincinnati." The catchphrase coined eight years ago by Bill Belichick after the Patriots were blown out at Kansas City was updated this week by Chiefs coach Andy Reid following his team's latest loss to the Bengals. Now, it's "We're over Cincinnati." Reid was peppered with questions this week about the Chiefs (9-3) bouncing back after squandering a chance to maintain control of the AFC playoff race when they blew another late lead in a 27-24 loss to Cincinnati last weekend. That marked the third time this calendar year Joe Burrow got the best of Patrick Mahomes, including last year's conference championship at Arrowhead Stadium. After about the fourth question, Reid made it clear his focus was on the Broncos, not the Bengals. Same with Mahomes, who is 41-9 in games after Halloween over his career and has never lost to the Broncos (3-9) in nine tries.
12-11-22 | Eagles v. Giants OVER 44.5 | 48-22 | Win | 100 | 2 h 47 m | Show
There's a new twist to the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles rivalry that dates to 1933. This year's version pits Brian Daboll of the Giants (7-4-1) against Nick Sirianni of the NFL-leading Eagles (11-1). It's their first meeting as head coaches, but they go back a decade. Daboll was the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 under Romeo Crennel when they decided to gave Sirianni his first job as a position coach, putting him in charge of the wide receivers. "We didn't have a great year," said Sirianni, who like Daboll grew up in western New York. "We were 2-14, probably one of the hardest years professionally that I've had. But it was one of the years I grew the most as a coach because of Brian Daboll, the things he taught me about, about the game of football, things I use to this day." The pair sound similar talking about football, focused on one game at a time and improving every day in practice. Little mention of big-picture or down-the-road scenarios. They sidestep discussing playoff implications, even though the Eagles can clinch a spot this week with either a win or a tie. Philadelphia comes into the game with the NFL's best record, the third-ranked offense and the No. 2 defense.
12-11-22 | Browns +4.5 v. Bengals | 10-23 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 43 m | Show
The Cincinnati Bengals beat AFC power Kansas City last Sunday for the third time in 11 months. Now the surging Bengals turn their attention to trying to end a five-game skid against division rival Cleveland. The Bengals (8-4) haven't been able to beat the Browns (5-7) lately, losing the Battle of Ohio five times in a row. Cincinnati has lost eight of nine in the series dating to 2018. The last outing was an embarrassment for the Bengals, a 32-13 rout in Cleveland on Halloween. The AFC North rivals meet again Sunday in Cincinnati. "We kind of owe these guys," Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard said. That Browns squad that walloped Cincinnati was led by backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, now residing on the bench in favor of Deshaun Watson, Cleveland's $230 million man who was suspended for the first 11 games over sexual misconduct allegations. The Bengals have won four in a row since the Browns loss. Star receiver Ja'Marr Chase is back in action after missing the earlier Browns game and three more with a hairline hip fracture. Quarterback Joe Burrow is trailing only Patrick Mahomes in passing yards after besting the Chiefs star last Sunday.
12-11-22 | Vikings v. Lions UNDER 51.5 | Top | 23-34 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 55 m | Show |
The Minnesota Vikings have won enough to be in a position to clinch the NFC North with almost a month left in the regular season. The Vikings (10-2) have won nine of their last 10 games, a string of success that started in September with a comeback win over Detroit and has been marked by one-possession games to raise questions about how good they are. The Lions (5-7), meanwhile, have won four of five games and have earned enough respect to be favored to beat Minnesota by 1 1/2 points, per FanDuel Sportsbook. It's the first time in the Super Bowl era that a 5-7 team is favored over a 10-2 team, according to Sportsradar. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins certainly isn't apologizing for winning nine games by eight or fewer points.
12-08-22 | Raiders v. Rams +7 | 16-17 | Win | 100 | 1 h 9 m | Show
The Rams have three options at quarterback, but none is Matthew Stafford, who is out with a bruised spinal cord. John Wolford wasn't outstanding in Los Angeles' loss to Seattle last weekend while dealing with a neck injury, and mobile third-stringer Bryce Perkins wasn't any better the previous week. The Rams claimed Baker Mayfield off waivers from Carolina on Tuesday, and while the former No. 1 draft pick probably will be active Thursday, coach Sean McVay is hoping he won't need to play.
12-05-22 | Saints +3.5 v. Bucs | 16-17 | Win | 100 | 7 h 9 m | Show
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't in a position to make any assumptions about their chances of winning the woeful NFC South. With Tom Brady at quarterback, a talented group of offensive playmakers around the seven-time Super Bowl champion, as well as a top-10 defense, the first-place Bucs (5-6) seem to have everything it takes to shrug off a disappointing start and repeat as division champions. Except for consistency. Brady and company have already lost more games than they did all last season. And holding off the Atlanta Falcons (5-7), Carolina Panthers (4-8), and New Orleans Saints (4-8) in a race in which all four teams currently have losing records may be their only path back to the playoffs. The stretch run begins Monday night against the last-place Saints, who despite losing to Tampa Bay at home in Week 2 have had more success against Brady than any opponent since the 45-year-old quarterback left the New England Patriots in 2020.
12-04-22 | Colts +10.5 v. Cowboys | 19-54 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 36 m | Show
Jonathan Taylor is the third consecutive elite back the Cowboys are facing in a stretch that started with Dallas' defense struggling against the run. The Cowboys won while keeping Minnesota's Dalvin Cook and Saquon Barkley under control. They'll try to make it 3 for 3 against Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts (4-7-1) on Sunday night. Dallas coach Mike McCarthy thinks he has attended two college games in three decades on NFL coaching staffs. One was watching Taylor and Wisconsin against Iowa. "Just his ability to run inside with the discipline and toughness," McCarthy said. "I think he's definitely a featured back, and I wouldn't be surprised if he carries it north of 20 against us." There's a peek at one of the keys for the Cowboys (8-3) against Cook and Barkley. They had limited opportunities. Dallas had the biggest road blowout in franchise history in a 40-3 rout of the Vikings, thus Cook had just 11 carries for the trailing team. The Giants ran just 59 plays on Thanksgiving, and 35 were passes. So Barkley had just 11 attempts for 39 yards.
12-04-22 | Colts v. Cowboys OVER 44.5 | 19-54 | Win | 100 | 6 h 26 m | Show
The Colts are facing the short week after a 24-17 loss to Pittsburgh on Monday night, while the Cowboys are on extended break coming off the 28-20 Thanksgiving victory over New York. Dallas leads the NFL in sacks and will face the offensive line that has allowed the most. On offense, the Cowboys are among the league's best in the six weeks since quarterback Dak Prescott returned from a broken thumb on his throwing hand. It's the fourth game for Matt Ryan since interim coach Jeff Saturday reinserted him as the starter for the Colts. The 37-year-old is facing the NFL's top passing defense. "The one thing I've learned is you never know how games are going to shake out," Ryan said. "It doesn't matter which two teams show up and what you've done up until this point. We have a really good defense, too, that they have to go against." That's one of Prescott's points about the Colts, who are 10 1/2-point underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
12-04-22 | Chargers v. Raiders UNDER 49.5 | 20-27 | Win | 100 | 3 h 45 m | Show
When the Los Angeles Chargers last came to Las Vegas, a tie would have put them and the Raiders in the playoffs. Both teams looked as though they were heading there together in overtime last January - before the Raiders decided to go alone with a 47-yard field goal as time expired. Now the Chargers are back to play the Raiders on Sunday, and only one team appears to be playoff contention. Los Angeles and the New England Patriots, each 6-5, are just outside the postseason picture. The Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets, each 7-4, are just inside. That's not the case for Las Vegas, which at 4-7 is trying to work its way to .500 after consecutive overtime road victories.
12-04-22 | Dolphins v. 49ers UNDER 46 | 17-33 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 29 m | Show
When Kyle Shanahan got his first job as an NFL position coach, Mike McDaniel was right there as his assistant. From that first time together in 2006 in Houston to stints in Washington, Cleveland, Atlanta and finally San Francisco, as Shanahan moved, McDaniel followed, with the two coaches spending 14 of the next 16 seasons together. "Wherever I went, except a couple years he was out, he was always my assistant, so we were always grooming him and working on things together," Shanahan said. Now the relationship enters a new chapter when the two coaches will face each other for the first time when McDaniel's Miami Dolphins (8-3) visit his old stomping grounds to take on Shanahan's 49ers (7-4) on Sunday.
12-04-22 | Seahawks v. Rams +7 | 27-23 | Win | 100 | 2 h 15 m | Show
Bobby Wagner was the beating heart of the Seattle Seahawks' defense for a full decade, growing from a hard-hitting rookie linebacker into a six-time All-Pro with a Super Bowl ring and the abiding love of an entire region of football fans. Wagner's first game against the Seahawks (6-5) in the horned helmet of his hometown Los Angeles Rams (3-8) certainly seems like it would make for an emotionally fraught Sunday afternoon for one of the best defensive players of his generation. "It's just another game, just a game coming up," Wagner said. "We're playing in our stadium against a team that's pretty good." Yet even by downplaying the magnitude of the Seahawks' visit to SoFi Stadium, Wagner admits he's acknowledging just how much his decade in Seattle meant to him. "Being a part of that organization, that's kind of the method," Wagner said. "You never really make a game too big or too little ... because then it makes you inconsistent. Because you'll get up for one game, but then you won't get up for the next game. I'm personally just treating this game like it's a normal game." Wagner built his football foundation with Pete Carroll and the Seahawks, and even their moderately messy breakup didn't alter his fundamental principles. He was disappointed when he didn't get a call informing him of Seattle's plan to release him, and he wondered if it was because he represents himself - but Wagner says he's over it.
12-01-22 | Bills v. Patriots UNDER 44.5 | 24-10 | Win | 100 | 1 h 28 m | Show
For New England, which is coming off its best offensive performance since quarterback Mac Jones returned from an ankle injury, the approach has been to remember but not fixate on last year's playoff debacle. "I'm not going to just dwell on something that's in the past, but it was definitely in my mind how we ended the season last year," running back Rhamondre Stevenson said. "I feel like we get to go out and put a different game on film." Thursday's game will be the third in 12 days for the Patriots, coming off having their season-best three-game winning streak ended in a 33-26 loss on Thanksgiving at Minnesota. Back in last place in the division, it's left little room for error with six games remaining. I anticipate that the defense will rule the day in this one.
12-01-22 | Bills v. Patriots +4 | Top | 24-10 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 31 m | Show |
The most recent time the Bills faced the Patriots, they left little doubt about their status as the pacesetter in the AFC East. Buffalo walked off the field with a 47-17 win in the wild-card round of the playoffs this past January, demoralizing a New England team that was celebrating being back in the postseason after a one-year absence. The Bills (8-3) will look to add to their recent run of success in a rivalry once dominated by the Patriots (6-5) during their latest trip to New England. Buffalo enters Thursday night's matchup the winners of three of the past four regular-season meetings and is in second place in the AFC's only division in which all four teams are above .500. But it has yet to notch a division win with close losses to Miami and the New York Jets. Both setbacks were on the road, a fact not lost on quarterback Josh Allen.
11-28-22 | Steelers v. Colts UNDER 39.5 | 24-17 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 4 m | Show
The Steelers (3-7) seem vulnerable. They've lost three of four overall, four straight on the road, and rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett has struggled with interceptions with his Monday night debut looming. Similar to Indy, Pittsburgh has struggled to produce points and even its usually stout run defense has been susceptible this season. Coach Mike Tomlin realizes that's a potential problem against 2021 NFL rushing champ Jonathan Taylor up next, even with defending NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt back from an injury. "We haven't been in a stadium with him before, but we respect his talents and his resume," Tomlin said. "We believe quality play, for them, centers around his exploits and what he's able to do. We've got to minimize his impact on the game." Taylor has rushed for 231 yards and two scores since Saturday replaced Frank Reich and Saturday seems more committed to the ground game.
11-28-22 | Steelers +2.5 v. Colts | Top | 24-17 | Win | 100 | 8 h 8 m | Show |
Jeff Saturday knows the score. The Indianapolis Colts have lost seven straight to the Pittsburgh Steelers since last winning 14 years ago - when Saturday was still in the prime of his playing career. And if Indy hopes to change anything in this lopsided series, he understands the Colts must be more focused, more precise, and more efficient Monday night. "We talked about just embracing the moment, having fun with it, appreciating it, and then performing at your best when you have these moments and opportunities," he said. "It's a huge challenge, and, obviously, Pittsburgh brings its own set of battles here." For the Colts (4-6-1), winning this one is a must if they hope to revitalize their rapidly fading playoff hopes. They've lost their past two home games - both 17-16 after the defense gave up a touchdown in the final 90 seconds and the offense couldn't move into field-goal position. Another agonizing loss to the Steelers could spell doom again for longtime Colts fans who have seen Pittsburgh repeatedly dash their dreams.
11-27-22 | Saints v. 49ers UNDER 43.5 | Top | 0-13 | Win | 100 | 6 h 2 m | Show |
Coach Kyle Shanahan knows it's a challenge to keep all of his playmakers involved in the San Francisco 49ers' offense after the addition of Christian McCaffrey. Imagine how hard it is to defend a group that features McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell at running back, receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, and versatile tight end George Kittle. That's the task the New Orleans Saints (4-7) face Sunday when they visit the streaking Niners (6-4). "They've got playmakers at the receiver position, they've got playmakers at the tight end position. They've got playmakers in the running back position," coach Dennis Allen said. "That makes it challenging in terms of, `Who are you trying to take away?' ... It makes it tough." The 49ers struck that perfect balance in last week's win over Arizona with Aiyuk and Kittle each catching two TD passes, McCaffrey gaining 106 yards from scrimmage, Samuel scoring on a 39-yard TD run and Mitchell wearing down the Cardinals on the ground in the second half. Shanahan knows that won't happen every week but was pleased to see it work out that way against Arizona.
11-27-22 | Raiders v. Seahawks UNDER 48 | Top | 40-34 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 50 m | Show |
There was an underrated aspect to what the Seattle Seahawks accomplished through their first 10 games and their surprising surge to the top of the NFC West. They did most of it away from home and flew plenty of miles in the process - most recently to Germany, where they lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before their bye week. That changes beginning Sunday, when the Seahawks (6-4) return to Lumen Field and host the Las Vegas Raiders. Seattle, which is tied with San Francisco atop the NFC West, plays five of its final seven games at home and only has one more game outside the Pacific time zone. "I'm tired of traveling. I'm tired of being on planes, leaving on Friday or Saturday," wide receiver DK Metcalf said. "I'm just happy to be back in front of the 12s (Seattle's fans) for five more games. I know they are excited to have us back." And Seattle's opponents during this upcoming stretch look less daunting than they did when the season began. The Seahawks' next three games are against teams with three wins apiece: the Raiders, the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina.
11-27-22 | Chargers v. Cardinals UNDER 48.5 | Top | 25-24 | Loss | -106 | 6 h 47 m | Show |
Say what you want about the Los Angeles Chargers - at least they're interesting. They had four straight games earlier in the season during which they trailed by double digits at the end of the first quarter and won three of them. They've led at the end of the first quarter the last two weeks and lost. Los Angeles is 1-3 this season when leading at the end of the first quarter, but 3-1 when trailing. It makes sense that after all those ups and downs, the Chargers are stuck with a 5-5 record when they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals (4-7) on Sunday. The Chargers are coming off a tough 30-27 loss to the Chiefs last Sunday. Kansas City scored a touchdown with 31 seconds left to rally for the win. "What happened last week and the week before that, it's part of the league," Chargers coach Brandon Staley said. "You're going to have stretches like that where you have really tough ones that you feel like you are right there and you don't make them.
11-27-22 | Raiders +3.5 v. Seahawks | Top | 40-34 | Win | 100 | 6 h 32 m | Show |
Las Vegas (3-7) snapped a three-game skid with last week's overtime win at Denver and in the process gave the Seahawks a boost. Every Denver loss improves Seattle's draft position as owners of the Broncos' first-round pick next season. (Denver got Russell Wilson out of that deal, which isn't looking so great for the Broncos.) The Raiders have lost five road games this season, four by one score. "We don't know this team very well, so our team is hard at work in terms of learning the personnel, the scheme, the challenges they present in all three phases," Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said. "And then obviously, going out there and playing in Seattle, it's always a different atmosphere. A very challenging place to play. So, a lot of hard work ahead of us here." |
