Jaguars -3 v. Giants | | 20-15 |
Win | 100 | 49 h 12 m | Show |
The Giants backers are hopeful after the signing of Beckham and the drafting of Barkley - and rightfully so. However, they are nowhere near the team that the Jaguars currently field. Look, I don't like Marrone and this Jags offense anymore than the next guy but they are going to destroy the Giants in the trenches. It's very difficult to run on the Jags and when they make a team one dimensional, it gets ugly quick. The fact that Ramsey should neutralize Beckham is icing on the cake. Look for Eli to be on his back and the Jags to put together enough drives to put this one away. Going with the road chalk... PICK: Jaguars -3 |

USC v. Stanford -5.5 | | 3-17 |
Win | 100 | 27 h 30 m | Show |
This game comes down to Stanford simply having to much experience for the young USC offense. We expect both teams to be able to score but Stanford has a nice home field edge and will find a way to get it done. USC will make some mistakes and Stanford will play smart and disciplined proving, yet again, they are the class of the PAC 12. Look for QB KJ Costello to have a big game after USC sells out to stop the feared Stanford rushing attack. PICK: Stanford -5.5 |
09-08-18 |
Kentucky v. Florida -13.5 | | 27-16 |
Loss | -105 | 25 h 17 m | Show |
Florida finally looks to be competent again and that spells trouble for the underwhelming Wildcats. Coach Dan Mullen looks to have the offense soaring again with Felipe Franks looking like a stud QB. This is a breath of fresh air for Gators backers that have been forced to watch a horrible offense as of late. Kentucky will rely on two talented running backs but Florida has the size and talent to shut them down. I expect Florida to win by 20+ at home. PICK: Florida -13.5 |
09-08-18 |
Wyoming v. Missouri -19.5 | | 13-40 |
Win | 100 | 25 h 42 m | Show |
Wyoming is terrible without really any standouts on offense or defense to speak of. This is simply a rotten situation when they travel to Missouri. If Wyoming has a glaring weakness ( among all their weaknesses) it is their pass defense which doesn't bode well facing a Tigers team that can really sling it around. On the other side of the ball, Wyoming likes to run the ball and Missouri is pretty solid at stifling the run. Look for this to get ugly early! PICK: Missouri -19.5 |
09-08-18 |
Duke v. Northwestern -2.5 | | 21-7 |
Loss | -115 | 18 h 45 m | Show |
This is one of those spots where the better team is out for revenge. Last year Duke smoked Northwestern and since then Northwestern has been on a roll. The Wildcats have a very strong running game behind a solid offensive line and they should control the line of scrimmage. Duke is no pushover but under 3 points is simply too good to pass on for the better, home team. PICK: Northwestern -2.5 |
09-07-18 |
TCU v. SMU +23 | | 42-12 |
Loss | -102 | 7 h 48 m | Show |
You can't read too much into week 1 of a college football season. TCU waxed Southern 55-7 at home last week resting its starters after halftime, but Southern is an FCS school that was outmanned at every position playing on the road. The Horned Frogs still have question marks on the offensive side of the ball. Sophomore QB Shawn Robinson didn't have to do too much last week but will have a tougher challenge on the road especially with TCU's 4 new starters on the offensive line. SMU played like garbage last week losing 46-23 at North Texas. But the Mean Green is a very good team that isn't too far outside the Top 25 and opening against them on the road was not ideal for the Mustangs. SMU does have some weapons on offense. Junior QB Ben Hicks has started every game the last 2 seasons and threw 33 TD's to only 12 picks last season. He's breaking in a couple new receivers but I expect him to play much better in this one at home especially if the running game gets going which I think it will. SMU is below average in the secondary as North Texas proved but I don't think TCU has the passing attack this early in the season to exploit it. TCU wants to run the ball and won't stray from that plan because of the North Texas game. TCU is the better team in this one and will win the game outright but I think they will be looking ahead to their game against Ohio State next week a little and make enough mistakes to keep SMU in it long enough to score the cover. Take SMU +23. |

Cincinnati v. UCLA -16.5 | | 26-17 |
Loss | -110 | 725 h 58 m | Show |
If you think Chip Kelly forgot how to coach because of his underwhelming stint in the NFL you'd be mistaken. Like Nick Saban before him, Kelly is more suited to coach in college where he has complete control and the players will do what is asked without question. Josh Rosen may be gone but the Bruins still have the kind of talent that could be a powerhouse in the Pac 12 with a coach like Kelly. Cincinnati was awful last season in a weak conference and the main culprit was the defense. The Bearcats gave up over 30 points a game and allowed almost 200 yards rushing. They may be even worse this season as this unit is more inexperienced. If you know anything about Chip Kelly's offense you'd know even though it's fast-paced he likes to run the ball down the other team's throat especially when he has the talent edge up front. That's not good news for Cincinnati. It will take some time for Chip to make UCLA playoff contenders but they will cruise to an easy win at home against the Bearcats. Lay the points and take UCLA to cover. |

UNLV v. USC -26 | | 21-43 |
Loss | -106 | 68 h 41 m | Show |
With Sam Darnold gone, USC isn't getting the respect they deserve coming into this season. Underestimating this team is a big mistake. It's easy for some to underestimate a team that goes from Sam Darnold to a true freshman starting QB. Another mistake. JT Daniels is no ordinary freshman. He was recruited by just about every big name school in the country and is projected to be a star at USC for the next 3 years followed by getting his name called early in the first round of the NFL draft like the player he's replacing. USC still has the kind of weapons all over the field that will help the young QB develop faster. This is usually the point that I would talk about UNLV a little but there isn't much to say. This program is a disaster. With only 2 winning seasons in the last 23 years, you have to commend them for giving coach Tony Sanchez a real chance to turn it around. But they are outclassed at every position in this game. USC is 18-1 in their last 19 home openers and even with the freshman QB they are talented enough to win the Pac 12 and be in the mix for a playoff berth. If you're looking for that week 1 college blowout we all love this is the game. USC wins big! Lay the points and take USC |
09-01-18 |
North Carolina v. California -7 | | 17-24 |
Push | 0 | 68 h 35 m | Show |
If you look at Cal's 5 wins from last season you wouldn't be impressed that they return the key pieces from last years team. If you look deeper at their 2017 season you would see that they played extremely well against the better teams in the conference but couldn't quite do enough in the 4th quarter to make the plays needed to win those tough Pac 12 games. I would have liked Cal in this game even if North Carolina wasn't a mess. But when a team loses most of their talent from a 2017 team that was awful and has players suspended for selling team apparel this becomes a no-brainer. These two teams played last season in Carolina and Cal won 35-30. Cal will be better this season and North Carolina will disappoint again, starting with this one on the road. Lay the 7 and take Cal. |

Central Michigan +17 v. Kentucky | | 20-35 |
Win | 100 | 67 h 6 m | Show |
Kentucky shouldn't be favored by this much against an FCS school in week 1, let alone a MAC team like Central Michigan. Don't get me wrong, Central Michigan doesn't recruit the talent of any power conference team but they have enough talent to compete against a perennial disappointment like Kentucky. Throw in the fact that Kentucky's offense is young and inexperienced and this game has the look of a being a one-possession game in the 4th quarter. The longer Central Michigan stays in it the more pressure Kentucky will be under to not lose in their home opener against a non SEC team. This game comes down to the wire and the dog cashes. Take The Points and Central Michigan. |
09-01-18 |
Florida Atlantic +21 v. Oklahoma | | 14-63 |
Loss | -110 | 64 h 42 m | Show |
Baker Mayfield is gone and the Oklahoma offense no longer has the type of QB that can make up for their deficiencies on defense by simply outscoring their opponents despite playing terrible defense. Saying new starting QB Kyler Murray is no Mayfield is an understatement. He couldn't win the starting job at A&M in 2015 before transferring to Oklahoma, sitting out 2016 and watching from the sidelines last season. He may turn out to be a dangerous weapon but it may take a few games. The defense looks like they will struggle again this season and they will be tested right out of the gate. Lane Kiffin is still one the best offensive minds in college football and returning 15 starters from a team that went 11-3 last season means that they should be just as good if not better than last season with Kiffin calling the plays. Running back Devin Singletary is back after rushing for 1,900 yards a year ago and should give Oklahoma problems. The Sooners still have too much talent to not get the win but covering 3 touchdowns is asking too much. Take The Points and Florida Atlantic |

Portland has been in a free fall for about a month now, losers of 4 in a row and with Jozy Altidore returning from suspension and Toronto desperately figthing to get back in the playoff hunt it's a good spot to take the half goal and Toronto. Take The Half Goal On Toronto. |

I love the price we're getting here on the run line with unknown rookie Jamie Barria on the mound at home for the Angels. Barria has only 4 starts in his first season but has won 3 of them while only giving up 5 earned runs in 18 innings of work. Houston's Gerrit Cole has been outstanding this season but his only blemish thus far were to these Angels. Take L.A. On the run line. |

Pelicans +11.5 v. Warriors | Top | 104-113 |
Win | 100 | 26 h 18 m | Show |
The Pelicans are a really good team who just ran into the defending champs. Out of the 8 teams left in the playoffs, New Orleans is arguably the 4th best team after Golden State, Houston, and Cleveland. There is just too much talent on the Pelicans and Anthony Davis has too much pride and all world talent for the Pelicans to get blown out again. Look for a tight game. Take The Points and New Orleans |
05-07-18 |
Raptors +6 v. Cavs | | 93-128 |
Loss | -110 | 25 h 49 m | Show |
The Toronto Raptors are the laughingstock of the NBA at the moment and to be honest this series could be 2-1 Raptors if they converted a tip in at the end of game 1 and in game 3 they had all the momentum to win in OT if LeBron didn't rip out their hearts again. I don't see this Raptors team giving up. If they can get a win they go back home and I think they'll get it. Take Toronto. |

Win | 100 | 34 h 56 m | Show |
Any thoughts the Rockets had this series would be an easy tuneup for the Warriors in the finals were dashed Wednesday night as the Jazz played spectacular and proved they belong in this series. Utah's momentum going into game 3 doesn't matter. In this series, it's all about the 3 point shooting. Utah shot 46 percent in game 2 and Houston shot 27%. Look for Utah to come back down to Earth and Houston to shoot much better. Take The Rockets. |
05-01-18 |
Pelicans +11 v. Warriors | | 116-121 |
Win | 100 | 27 h 44 m | Show |
Game 1 of this series was an aberration. The Warriors blitzed the Pelicans in the 2nd quarter outscoring them 41-21. In Game 2 don't expect the Pelicans to give up 76 first half points. Don't expect Anthony Davis to only score 21 and don't expect Nikola Miritoc and Jrue Holiday to shoot as poorly as they did. The Pelicans will keep this one close and don't be shocked if they tie the series. Take The Points and New Orleans. |

When the 1st round matchups were set a couple weeks back this was the series that jumped off the page as the most likely to go the distance. Without Kyrie Irving, the Celtics just don't have enough talent to win consistently on the road. In the playoffs, you need a star player to count on in the 4th quarter in a hostile environment and the Celtics don't have that player. Role players always play better at home in the NBA and this game will be no different. Look for a good, tight game that Milwaukee pulls away in the end. Lay The points and Take The Bucks. |

The 76ers are clearly the better team in this series and moving on to the Eastern Conference semifinals is all but a foregone conclusion but I don't expect the Heat to just roll over and get blown out in this one. Miami has enough talent and pride to keep this one close to the final couple minutes which will cover this large spread. Take The Points and Miami. |

Thunder +5.5 v. Jazz | | 96-113 |

This series was always going to be the best one in the first round and I expect these teams to trade victories and go to 7 games. The Thunder pick up the defensive intensity and even it up. Take OKC. |

Win | 100 | 12 h 1 m | Show |
For one night in game 2 Dwayne Wade went back in time and had a legendary performance to make this look like a series but I'm here to tell you it's not a series. The 76ers overwhelmed the Heat in Miami in game 3 after the Heat played really well for 3 quarters. I expect the same kind of game. The Heat fans will give their team an early boost and they will look good in the 1st half only to fade in the end. Take The 76ers. |
04-19-18 |
Warriors -3 v. Spurs | Top | 110-97 |
Win | 100 | 20 h 21 m | Show |
This Spurs team is outmatched in this series in every way without Kawhi Leonard who is done for the season. The Spurs played about as well as they could in that game 2 and it still wasn't close in the end. I look for San Antonio to come out swinging in the first quarter in front of the home fans and playing hard for Coach Popovich but in the end, the Warriors are trying to end this series in 4 games and I don't see them getting tripped up here at this number. Take The Warriors. |
04-19-18 |
Blazers v. Pelicans -3 | | 102-119 |
Win | 100 | 20 h 51 m | Show |
The Pelicans are playing outstanding basketball. Not only do they have the best player on the floor in Anthony Davis who is virtually unstoppable right now, Nikoli Miritoc and Jrue Holliday can score from anywhere on the court which allows Davis to work more 1 on 1 where again UNSTOPPABLE. The Pelicans defense is swarming Lillard and McCollum and have them all out of rhythm. I look for more of the same in Game 3 as this is just a bad matchup for Portland. Take The Pelicans. |

Pacers v. Cavs -8 | | 97-100 |
Loss | -105 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
After getting humiliated on their home floor in Game 1 this game is all Lebron James. James didn't score a point in Game 1 until the Cavs were already down by 20. In game 2 look for him to send a message to the Pacers early on both sides of the floor. On offense, James will take it to the rim early and often to get easy buckets and get to the free throw line. On defense look for James to start guarding Victor Olidipo early in this one to get the Pacers number 1 option out of rhythm. The Cavs start fast and control this one the whole way through. Lay The Points and Take The Cavaliers. |
04-17-18 |
Pelicans v. Blazers -6 | Top | 111-102 |
Loss | -105 | 9 h 17 m | Show |
If the Portland Trail Blazers were looking past New Orleans at a possible second round matchup with Golden State that all changed after they dropped game 1 97-95 at home. They now play in a virtual must win game 2 at home to avoid a 0-2 deficit heading on the road where they have not won in their last 5 games away from the Moda Center. Portland did a good job defensively against Pelicans star Anthony Davis' supporting cast. The 35 points Davis scored in game 1 was not the reason they lost. The awful play of their own two stars Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum was the culprit. Portland's backcourt shot a combined 13-41 in game 1 including only 5 buckets inside the 3 point line. Look for Lillard and McCollum to get involved early and play much better in Game 2 to lead the Trail Blazers to a comfortable game 2 win. Lay The Ponts and Take Portland. |

The Philadelphia 76ers are the best team in the East at the moment winner of 14 straight games and cashing in 10 of those games. They still have something to play for as they definitely want to lock up the 3 seed and avoid playing Toronto in the second round. During this streak, the 76ers beat Atlanta on the road by 10. Atlanta will have even less motivation in this game as they are locked in a tie for the third worst record in the NBA with Orlando and would like to finish worse than the Magic and secure more ping pong balls in the draft. The Philadelphia 76ers have been playing lights out basketball of late but that has been against some dismal competition. This 11 game win streak has come against Brooklyn (twice), Charlotte (twice), N.Y. Knicks (twice), Memphis, Orlando, Atlanta, Denver and Minnesota. The last 2 teams are possible playoff teams but both those games were played in Philly and Denver and Minnesota are awful road teams. With Detroit fighting for their playoff lives at home and Philadelphia playing the 2nd of a back to back, I like Detroit to shut Philly's offense down and win this game outright. Wolves -5 v. Mavs | Top | 93-92 |
Loss | -115 | 21 h 58 m | Show |
This is a crucial game for both teams for vastly different reasons. The Timberwolves are currently the 7th seed in the west with 6 games to play. The standings are so bunched up that the Wolves are only 1 game behind the 4th place Spurs and home court advantage in the first round. On the flip side, they are only 1.5 games ahead of the Clippers and possibly missing the playoffs altogether. The Mavericks currently have the 5th worst record in the NBA and owner Mark Cuban would love if they lost all 6 remaining games for better lottery odds. This number is too low for the intensity the Wolves will be playing with and the Mavericks not trying in the 4th quarter like they did in LA on Wednesday. Against the Lakers the Mavs played their starters for less than half the game and down the stretch were putting a D league team on the court in the 4th with the likes of Maxi Kleber, Kyle Collinsworth and Jalen Jones. That doesn't sound like a team that cares about winning and even less how much they lose by. The Timberwolves aren't a great defensive team but they won't have to do much in this one. If they know they have the game in hand they'll coast to the finish line and start getting ready for a pivotal game against Utah Sunday. The Mavs score in the 90's and The Timberwolves coast to a double digit win. Lay The Points and Take Minnesota Friday. |
