09-22-23 | Braves v. Nationals UNDER 9 | Top | 9-6 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 12 m | Show |
Right-hander Charlie Morton (14-12, 3.66 ERA) will be Atlanta's starter on Friday night as he aims for his first victory this month. He won in his final four starts of August before going 0-2 so far in September. He hasn't completed five innings in two of his last three starts. Morton had a seven-game stretch without yielding a home run end Sunday at Miami. This will be the fifth consecutive start on the road for Morton, who holds a 6-6 record and a 4.75 ERA in 15 career starts versus the Nationals. He has yet to face Washington this year, but he went 2-0 in matchups against it last year. The Nationals will go with left-hander Patrick Corbin (10-13, 5.00), who had a strong outing on Sunday at Milwaukee by holding the Brewers to one run in six innings. However, Corbin only has one home victory to show for the past two-plus months. Corbin was the losing pitcher on March 30 in his only outing this season against Atlanta. He's 6-11 with a 4.32 ERA in 22 all-time appearances (20 starts) against the Braves. Only his 5-12 record against the Los Angeles Dodgers reflects more losses against one team. The Nationals are hoping that 4 2/3 innings of relief work from Cory Abbott in the series opener pays off as others in the bullpen were rested for later in the series.

09-22-23 | Wisconsin v. Purdue UNDER 55 | Top | 38-17 | Push | 0 | 4 h 37 m | Show |
Purdue quarterback Hudson Card committed four turnovers (three fumbles) last week in a 15-point loss at Ross-Ade Stadium to Syracuse. Walters said he's not considering a change at that position. Card, who passed for 323 yards in the loss to the Orange, knows killing the giveaways is a must for Purdue to contend against the Badgers and their Big Ten brethren. Until I know I can trust him for consistency I won't lean on Purdue to put up points.
09-22-23 | Pirates v. Reds -165 | Top | 7-5 | Loss | -165 | 4 h 40 m | Show |
Rookie left-hander Andrew Abbott (8-5, 3.68 ERA) will start for the Reds in Friday's series opener, making his 20th start of the season. The 24-year-old labored in his last start, needing 91 pitches to complete just 3 2/3 innings while allowing two runs and six hits against the New York Mets last Saturday. Cincinnati pulled out a 3-2 win as Abbott received a no-decision. In five starts since beating Cleveland on Aug. 16, Abbott is 0-2 with a 6.33 ERA. He allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings back on Aug. 11 to earn a victory in his only career start against Pittsburgh. The Pirates (72-81) come to Cincinnati looking to continue playing the role of spoiler. One day after being on the wrong end of a 14-1 rout against the Cubs, Pittsburgh bounced back with a 13-7 win on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Pirates took the rubber match, 8-6.

09-18-23 | Browns v. Steelers +2 | Top | 22-26 | Win | 100 | 8 h 52 m | Show |
The Cleveland Browns have won in Week 1 before. They've dominated opponents the way they dominated the Cincinnati Bengals last week before. What they haven't done - at least not in the past 20 years during the regular season anyway - is beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Coaches change. Quarterbacks change. Uniforms change. Cleveland's futility at Acrisure Stadium - save for that cathartic first-round playoff win in 2020 - does not. The Browns (1-0) will walk onto the field looking to win in Pittsburgh (0-1) for the first time since 2003. And they'll do it under the lights of prime time with a chance to prove to a national audience their systematic beatdown of the Bengals in the opener was no fluke.
09-18-23 | Phillies v. Braves UNDER 9.5 | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 18 m | Show |
The Braves will try to bounce back after being swept over the weekend, but it is uncertain whether MVP candidate Ronald Acuna Jr. will be in the lineup when Atlanta hosts the Philadelphia Phillies for three games beginning Monday night. The slugging right fielder left Friday's game early with right calf tightness and did not play Saturday or Sunday. He will work out on Monday and have his availability determined at that time. Acuna is batting .337 with 37 homers, 98 RBIs and 66 stolen bases this season. Philadelphia and Atlanta played a week ago, with Atlanta taking three of four and clinching the National League East title. The Braves lead the season series 7-3.
09-18-23 | Saints -3 v. Panthers | Top | 20-17 | Push | 0 | 7 h 6 m | Show |
Bryce Young’s longest pass completion in Week 1 went for 14 yards. Panthers coach Frank Reich knows that needs to change Monday night when Carolina hosts the division-rival New Orleans Saints. Young, the No. 1 overall pick, was limited to 146 yards passing in a 24-10 loss to Atlanta and threw two interceptions and one touchdown in his pro debut. The lack of what Reich deems “chunk plays” in the passing game - considered gains of 20 or more yards - contributed to those poor numbers, as the Falcons repeatedly keyed on short throws over the middle while daring Young to beat them deep. I think Young will play better but the Saints get the win and cover.
09-18-23 | Twins v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show |
The Twins will send right-hander Joe Ryan (10-9, 4.20 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. On Tuesday, Ryan was charged with two runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking two as the Twins beat visiting Tampa Bay 3-2. The Reds, with just three regular pitchers in their rotation, were non-committal after Sunday's game about a starting pitcher for Monday, but it could be rookie right-hander Connor Phillips (0-0, 8.31 ERA) in his third major league appearance. Phillips debuted on Sept. 5, and in his second start on Wednesday in Detroit, he gave up three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out three.

09-17-23 | Red Sox v. Blue Jays -136 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 39 m | Show |
The Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday will seek a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox and a winning 10-game homestand. The Blue Jays (82-67) have won the first two games against the Red Sox (74-75) after a 4-3, 13-inning victory Saturday. Toronto is 5-4 on its homestand and currently holds the third and final wild-card spot in the American League. The Red Sox have lost three in a row and 14 of their past 20 games.
09-17-23 | Yankees -1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 44 m | Show |
In the series finale, New York left-hander Carlos Rodon (3-5, 6.14 ERA) is scheduled to start against right-hander Colin Selby (2-1, 8.20). Rodon had a bounce-back game his last time out. After giving up seven runs and eight hits Sept. 7 in a loss against Detroit in his worst start of the year, he got a win Tuesday against Boston. He held the Red Sox to one run and four hits in five innings and struck out a season-high nine. He had a shaky start as his first pitch was hit for a home run, but he struck out the side that first inning and went from there.
09-17-23 | Colts v. Texans | Top | 31-20 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 43 m | Show |
Indy’s running game struggled mightily last week without the top two backs, 2021 NFL rushing champion Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss. Richardson had 10 carries for 40 yards, while the rest of the team logged 16 carries for 25 yards. It could be more of the same this week. While the disgruntled Taylor (ankle) is on the physically unable to perform and is out until at least Week 5, Moss’ status is unclear. He broke his right arm during training camp and didn’t return to practice until last week then was inactive for the Jacksonville game. Steichen wouldn’t even hint at whether Moss might play in Houston.
09-17-23 | Chargers v. Titans +3 | Top | 24-27 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show |
Ryan Tannehill debuted as the Tennessee Titans' starting quarterback in October 2019 with a b ig win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Music City. The veteran desperately needs a repeat performance Sunday against the same team in the Titans' home opener. Tannehill posted his worst passer rating in Tennessee's 16-15 loss in New Orleans, which also marked just the third game of his career and first since his rookie season with three interceptions and no touchdown passes. The 35-year-old quarterback in the final year of his deal watched the tape five times. We expect there to be a bounceback this week

09-16-23 | Kansas v. Nevada UNDER 58.5 | Top | 31-24 | Win | 100 | 14 h 20 m | Show |
It's hard to build a case that 28-point underdog Nevada can give visiting Kansas a legitimate test on Saturday night, even if the Jayhawks' depth chart suggests otherwise. Starting cornerback Cobee Bryant and defensive end Austin Booker must sit out the first half of their game in Reno after being ejected from last week's 34-23 win over Illinois for targeting penalties. In addition, quarterback Jalon Daniels, running back Devin Neal and wide receiver Luke Grimm practiced sparingly on Sunday, according to coach Lance Leipold. The trio sustained injuries against Illinois, although Leipold said Daniels was able to do more in practice than the other two.
09-16-23 | Tigers v. Angels +103 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 45 m | Show |

09-16-23 | Miami-OH v. Cincinnati UNDER 44 | Top | 31-24 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 53 m | Show |
Cincinnati is led by former Arizona State (2022) and Florida (2018-21) quarterback Emory Jones. He has a completion percentage of 75.5 for 470 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception. Cincinnati averages 46.5 points per game, while Miami averages just 22.0. The RedHawks are coming off an exhausting 41-28 road win at UMass on Saturday, enduring 5 hours, 35 minutes of lightning-related delays. The game was scheduled to begin at 3:32 p.m. It ended at 12:28 a.m. Sunday. This total couldn't be begging the public more to take the over, we're not falling for that.

Right-hander Keaton Winn (1-2, 3.55 ERA) is San Francisco's scheduled starter for Saturday's first game. Colorado hadn't named a starter for that contest, but right-hander Peter Lambert (3-7, 5.36) is a strong possibility. Lambert and Winn were the starting pitchers when San Francisco completed a three-game sweep of Colorado with a 6-3 victory on Sunday. Winn struck out nine while tossing six innings of three-run ball to collect his first major league victory. It was the first time he has pitched against Colorado. Winn, who began his big-league career as a reliever, will be making his fourth start. Lambert allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings and took the loss. He surrendered a season-high three home runs. Lambert also had a relief outing against San Francisco on June 6, and he yielded three runs in 1 1/3 innings. He is 0-1 with a 6.95 ERA in five career games (four starts) against the Giants, having allowed six home runs in 22 innings.
09-16-23 | Louisville v. Indiana UNDER 50.5 | Top | 21-14 | Win | 100 | 4 h 8 m | Show |
It's no surprise to see a Jeff Brohm-coached team scoring a lot of points. His Louisville squad is lighting up the scoreboard, following up a 39-34 season-opening win at Georgia Tech on Sept. 1 by blanking FCS opponent Murray State 56-0 on Sept. 7. The Cardinals (2-0) step up in class on Saturday with a trip to Indianapolis for a non-conference matchup with Indiana (1-1). The Hoosiers' defense has looked very good in holding No. 6 Ohio State to 23 points and stifling FCS foe Indiana State on Sept. 8. Louisville has shown a good run-pass balance so far. Cal transfer Jack Plummer threw for 247 yards and a touchdown against Murray State, while running back Jawhar Jordan piled up 135 yards and a pair of scores on just seven carries. The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Jose Berrios (10-10, 3.63 ERA) on Friday. He is 2-6 with a 4.34 ERA in 13 career starts against the Red Sox, including a 1-1 mark with a 6.35 ERA in three starts this year. Boston is scheduled to start right-hander Brayan Bello (12-8, 3.68) in the opener. He is 1-2 with a 6.50 ERA in four career starts against the Blue Jays. In his lone start against Toronto this year, he allowed four runs (two earned) in five innings during a home win on May 4. The Blue Jays will hope to bounce back after getting outscored 35-9 by the Rangers in the four-game set.
09-15-23 | Rays v. Orioles UNDER 8.5 | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Right-hander Zach Eflin (14-8, 3.53 ERA), who will start for the Rays on Friday night, blanked the Orioles on two hits for seven innings in a July 21 home victory. He has gone 3-3 with a 3.91 ERA in nine starts since then. Since Aug. 1, Eflin has pitched in only three road games, but Tampa Bay has won all of those as he allowed a total of one run in 18 1/3 innings. Against the Orioles, he is 2-2 with a 3.36 ERA in four career starts, including a 1-1 mark with a 2.77 ERA in two starts this year. Right-hander Jack Flaherty (8-8, 4.98 ERA) heads to the mound for the Orioles in need of a personal bounce-back performance. He hasn't registered a victory since winning his Orioles debut on Aug. 3 after arriving in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals. Only once in his past four outings has he completed five innings. Flaherty has pitched in 128 major league games, but he has never faced the Rays.

09-15-23 | Virginia v. Maryland -14.5 | Top | 14-42 | Win | 100 | 5 h 9 m | Show |
Maryland moved to the Big Ten in 2014 and storied rivalries with longtime ACC opponents, particularly Virginia, went by the wayside. The Cavaliers and Terrapins reconvene for the first time since 2013 when Maryland (2-0) hosts Virginia (0-2) under the lights on Friday in College Park, Md. A fast start is the focus of the Terps after stumbling out of the gate last Saturday against Charlotte. Maryland entered as a 24.5-point favorite, but trailed 14-0 less than four minutes into the contest, didn't score a touchdown in the first half and only led by three entering the fourth quarter. The Terps eventually pulled away with three touchdowns in the fourth, including Roman Hemby's 15-yard scamper that sealed Maryland's 38-20 victory.
09-14-23 | Vikings v. Eagles OVER 49 | Top | 28-34 | Win | 100 | 17 h 47 m | Show |
After ranking second-to-last in the NFL in yards allowed and giving up the fourth-most points in the league last season under defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, the Vikings turned to Flores and turned over more than half of their starting lineup. The early results for Minnesota weren’t terribly promising - the defense allowed a fourth down conversion to extend Tampa Bay’s drive for the tiebreaking field goal and later let the Buccaneers drain the final 3:52 off the clock Sunday with a 15-yard facemask penalty and two third down conversions for a 20-17 victory. Expect both offenses to be better this week.
09-14-23 | Vikings v. Eagles -6 | Top | 28-34 | Push | 0 | 17 h 44 m | Show |
Jalen Hurts skipped the preseason, the NFL MVP runner-up is simply too important to risk an injury to play a meaningless snap. He also knows how to run an offense, putting up some of the best all-around numbers by a Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in franchise history. He even led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, a feat sure to be recognized at Thursday’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. But maybe, just maybe, even with training camp and joint practices and offseason workouts, the preseason games on the sideline might have thrown off Hurts a bit says the national media. We don't belive that to be true. Eagles roll.
09-14-23 | Navy v. Memphis -14 | Top | 24-28 | Loss | -110 | 16 h 8 m | Show |
Memphis has played in two uncompetitive games so far this season and is a significant favorite against the Midshipmen (1-1). But Thursday is another opportunity for the Tigers (2-0) to build momentum before they embark on a three-game stretch against Missouri, Boise State, and Tulane.
09-14-23 | Navy v. Memphis OVER 46 | Top | 24-28 | Win | 100 | 16 h 5 m | Show |
Memphis coaches said they've seen changes to the offense under Newberry, which means there's yet another wrinkle to prepare when playing Navy. Quarterback Tai Lavatai attempted 13 passes in Saturday's 24-0 win over Wagner, completing eight for 161 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 16 times for 65 yards. As a team, the Midshipmen ran the ball 44 times for 245 yards. Silverfield has repeatedly talked about Memphis' depth this season, and that'll be a major factor Thursday (especially on the defensive line). Defensive coordinator Matt Barnes is in his second season with the Tigers and saw the Navy offense last season in Annapolis, so there's some familiarity. That game ended in a 37-13 blowout win for Memphis.

Baltimore right-hander Kyle Gibson (14-8, 5.12 ERA) opposes a former Orioles prospect, left-hander Drew Rom (0-2, 7.79), in Wednesday's rubber game. Gibson has allowed three or more runs in each of his past six starts -- including nine against the Mariners on Aug. 11 -- while watching his ERA climb from 4.50 to 5.12. Thanks in part to its offense, Baltimore is 4-2 in those starts and the 11-year veteran has set a career high in wins.
09-13-23 | Cubs v. Rockies OVER 11.5 | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 33 m | Show |
Right-hander Jameson Taillon (7-9, 5.27 ERA) will get the start for Chicago (78-68), while the Rockies will send left-hander Ty Blach (2-1, 4.58) to the mound in the series finale. Taillon is coming off a strong start against Arizona on Friday, when he tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just one hit. He didn't factor into the 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks, but it was an encouraging outing for Taillon, who hasn't earned a win since Aug. 8 and is 0-3 with a 5.57 ERA in six starts since then. The current rut comes on the heels of a stretch in which Taillon went 5-0 with a 2.17 ERA in six outings from July 7 to the Aug. 8 victory. Taillon's seven wins are half of his total with the New York Yankees last season, when he went 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA. Rather than the stats, he is just concerned with trying to help the Cubs reach the playoffs in his first season with the club. Colorado (52-92) is trying to avoid losing 100 games for the first time in franchise history. Blach has been a steadying presence in a rotation hit hard by injuries. Four starters -- German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Austin Gomber and Ryan Feltner -- are currently on the injured list. Blach started the season coming out of the bullpen but has been a starter since July 23. He has pitched well against tough teams, like when he held Baltimore to a run on three hits over seven innings on Aug. 27, and has gone at least five innings in each of his last three outings. In six career appearances (three starts) against the Cubs, Blach is 4-1 with a 4.43 ERA. He last faced Chicago on April 15, 2022, throwing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn a win.
09-12-23 | Braves v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 22 m | Show |
Philadelphia will hand the ball to right-hander Zack Wheeler (11-6, 3.49 ERA) on Tuesday. In his latest start, Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just one hit against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Left-hander Max Fried (7-1, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves on Tuesday. In Fried's latest outing, on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals, he gave up six hits and three runs in six innings. It wasn't one of Fried's best outings but was nonetheless a quality start.
09-12-23 | Cardinals v. Orioles UNDER 10.5 | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show |
Left-hander John Means will make his first start since April 13, 2022, when the host Baltimore Orioles face the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle contest of a three-game series on Tuesday night. Means, the Orioles' Opening Day starter in 2021 and 2022 and the author of a no-hitter on May 5, 2021, underwent Tommy John surgery on April 27, 2022, after appearing in just two games that year. In his most recent step on the comeback trail, Means threw a bullpen session on Saturday. He went 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA in six minor league rehab starts over the past month. Means, a 30-year-old veteran who went 6-9 with a 3.62 ERA in his last full season in 2021, gives the Orioles (91-52) an experienced starter for the stretch run as they battle the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League East crown. That being said, Means' counterpart on Tuesday night is far more experienced, as 42-year-old Adam Wainwright (3-11, 8.19 ERA) will face Baltimore for just the second time in his 18-year career. He lost to the Orioles on June 17, 2017, when he was hammered for nine runs in 1 2/3 innings. Wainwright has not won since June 17 and remains stuck on 198 career wins. Since his last victory, Wainwright has gone 0-10 with a 10.72 ERA in 11 starts, and his season ERA has risen by 2.63 in that span. Last time out, Wainwright gave up six runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. It was the fourth time in six starts that he allowed at least six runs.
09-11-23 | Angels v. Mariners OVER 7.5 | Top | 8-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 2 m | Show |
Seattle's pitching staff faltered on the road, as it posted a 5.38 ERA on the trip with just two quality starts. Monday's pitching matchup is set to feature Angels left-hander Reid Detmers (3-10, 4.82 ERA) against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (13-5, 3.61). Detmers didn't get a decision in a 5-4 loss to visiting Baltimore last Tuesday. He allowed just one earned run in 6 2/3 innings. Detmers is 2-0 with a 5.01 ERA in five career starts against Seattle. He has failed to go five innings in his two starts against the Mariners this season, a pair of no-decisions. Gilbert has won his past eight decisions, including an 8-4 victory last Wednesday at Cincinnati in which he gave up three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, with nine strikeouts. He's 4-2 with a 4.71 ERA in seven career starts against the Angels. He lost 9-4 on June 11 in Anaheim, Calif., as he surrendered seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over three innings.
09-11-23 | Bills v. Jets UNDER 45.5 | Top | 16-22 | Win | 100 | 31 h 60 m | Show |
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have worked all spring and summer to get to this moment. So has Damar Hamlin. When the Jets square off against the Buffalo Bills on "Monday Night Football" at MetLife Stadium, it will mark the next step of two fascinating journeys. In front of a national TV audience and on the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Rodgers will make his highly anticipated regular-season debut for the Jets, who acquired the four-time NFL MVP from the Green Bay Packers in April. The game also will mark the Jets debut of running back Dalvin Cook, who was signed by New York during training camp to bolster its backfield behind Rodgers. Cook — whose brother James will be on the other sideline — spent his first six seasons with Minnesota and ran for at least 1,100 yards the last four years, but he was a salary cap cut this offseason. Cook had offseason shoulder surgery and started practicing with the Jets only right before the season. But he feels healthy and prepared to give New York a 1-2 punch at running back in new coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's offense with Breece Hall, who's returning from a knee injury that cut short his promising rookie season.
09-11-23 | Braves -154 v. Phillies | Top | 10-8 | Win | 100 | 1 h 37 m | Show |
The Atlanta Braves became the first team in the majors to clinch a postseason berth on Sunday, but manager Brian Snitker is already focused on the next task at hand. The Braves can take another step toward their sixth straight National League East title when they begin a four-game series against the host Philadelphia Phillies with a doubleheader on Monday. Atlanta (93-49) reduced its magic number to clinch the NL East to six after taking two of three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates, including the playoff-clinching 5-2 victory on Sunday.
09-10-23 | Orioles -105 v. Red Sox | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -105 | 3 h 7 m | Show |
The visiting Baltimore Orioles will attempt to sweep the Boston Red Sox and extend their winning streak to eight games when the teams wrap up a three-game series Sunday. The Orioles opened the series with an 11-2 victory on Friday night and won 13-12 on Saturday. The Red Sox collected 23 hits in Saturday's loss but stranded runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth.
09-10-23 | Mariners v. Rays -133 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 2 h 12 m | Show |
Right-hander Bryce Miller (8-4, 3.83 ERA) will get the nod in the series finale on Sunday. Logan Gilbert will pitch Monday against the Los Angeles Angels, while Bryan Woo was pushed back three days to start on Tuesday. The Rays will counter with right-hander Zach Eflin (13-8, 3.47), who had mixed results against the Boston Red Sox last Tuesday. He gave up three runs over five innings while throwing 89 pitches in a no-decision.
09-10-23 | Texans +9.5 v. Ravens | Top | 9-25 | Loss | -110 | 24 h 60 m | Show |
The Ravens made some important moves of their own this offseason, although the biggest possible change — Jackson leaving — didn't happen. Baltimore signed its franchise quarterback to a new five-year deal and gave him a couple significant new targets in Odell Beckham Jr. and first-round pick Zay Flowers. Still, it's the Texans who are coming off the bigger offseason overhaul, and they can only hope it will start paying dividends soon. Their first challenge is a trip to Baltimore, where they've never won in six tries. I just think I'm not in the mood to lay almost 10 points in the first week.
09-10-23 | Bengals v. Browns +2.5 | Top | 3-24 | Win | 100 | 24 h 50 m | Show |
In just three seasons, he's taken the NFL by storm, leading Cincinnati to an unexpected Super Bowl appearance and consecutive AFC title games while establishing himself as one of the league's elite quarterbacks. Only 26, and there's hardly a flaw on his resume. Except for his record against the Browns. Burrow, who returned to practice this week after missing more than a month with a strained calf, is just 1-4 against AFC North rival Cleveland heading into Sunday's season opener, when he'll match up with Deshaun Watson and a defense that has had his number so far. Although his stats have been pretty solid - completing 66.2% of his passes with 10 touchdowns - Burrow has been a loser against the Browns. He's 23-13-1 versus everyone else.

09-09-23 | Stanford +29.5 v. USC | Top | 10-56 | Loss | -110 | 14 h 42 m | Show |
Stanford (1-0) poses a bigger test for that USC defense this weekend. Last week, in a 37-24 victory over Hawaii, the Cardinal rolled up 406 yards of offense in a balanced attack. Quarterback Ashton Daniels played well in his first career start, completing 25 of 36 passes with 248 yards and two touchdowns. Daniels also was active on the ground, rushing 11 times for 42 yards. Daniels already seems to have found a favorite target in senior tight end Benjamin Yurosek, who had nine catches for 138 yards and a touchdown against the Rainbow Warriors. It was his career high in receiving yards and one catch away from tying his personal best in catches. Stanford first-year coach Troy Taylor has to earn his money to return the once-illustrious program to its winning ways. The Cardinal has a 14-28 record in the last four seasons but made a statement in their season-opening win.
09-09-23 | Rockies v. Giants OVER 7.5 | Top | 1-9 | Win | 100 | 12 h 45 m | Show |
Giants right-hander Logan Webb (9-12, 3.51 ERA) has been moved up a day to take Saturday's start. Webb has lost three straight outings, including 5-0 to the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The 26-year-old, however, has a 7-2 lifetime record and 3.50 ERA against Colorado in 13 career appearances (12 starts). Right-hander Chase Anderson (0-4, 5.98) will get the start on Saturday for the Rockies (51-89). Anderson, 35, returned from a six-week absence due to inflammation in his right shoulder to throw four effective innings last Sunday at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed two runs and four hits in a no-decision. Anderson also received a no-decision in a start against the Giants in June, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings with a season-best seven strikeouts. He has gone 3-3 with a 4.77 ERA in 11 career starts against San Francisco. The Giants teed off on the Colorado bullpen in Friday's win, hammering four relievers who did not include Daniel Bard, who has been battling arm fatigue.

09-09-23 | SMU v. Oklahoma -15.5 | Top | 11-28 | Win | 100 | 9 h 16 m | Show |
The Mustangs (1-0) will visit No. 18 Oklahoma (1-0) on Saturday in Norman, and both teams are coming off decisive season-opening wins: The Sooners blasted Arkansas State 73-0 -- outgaining the Red Wolves 642-208 -- and the Mustangs handled Louisiana Tech 38-14 with a balanced offensive attack. Oklahoma's defense struggled last season, and while its remade unit certainly looked better in the opener, SMU's offense figures to offer a stiffer challenge. The Sooners added Michigan transfer Andrel Anthony, who had three catches for 66 yards in the opener, as well as freshman Jaquaize Pettaway, who led Oklahoma with nine catches.
09-09-23 | Mets v. Twins -1.5 | Top | 4-8 | Win | 140 | 5 h 59 m | Show |
Minnesota (74-67), which maintained a 6 1/2-game lead in the Central over the Cleveland Guardians (68-74), will try to clinch the three-game series Saturday afternoon when veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda (3-7, 4.73 ERA) takes the mound against New York left-hander David Peterson (3-7, 5.40). Maeda is 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Mets but hasn't faced them since 2019, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peterson, meanwhile, has never faced the Twins. To even the series, he will have to find a way to cool down Correa, who belted a 439-foot homer off Kodai Senga during the fourth inning on Friday. The ball had an exit an exit velocity of 114.2 mph, the hardest of his nine-year career.

09-09-23 | Purdue v. Virginia Tech -2 | Top | 24-17 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 32 m | Show |
The quarterback matchup should be intriguing when nonconference foes Purdue and host Virginia Tech meet for a noon ET kickoff Saturday in Blacksburg. Purdue has a new face to its program at quarterback but certainly not a new face to college football. Hudson Card played three seasons at Texas before transferring to Purdue, and the redshirt junior seemed to fit in well in his first start with the Boilermakers. Purdue lost its season opener at home to Fresno State 39-35, but Card went 17 of 30 passing for 254 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Defense was the biggest issue for the Boilermakers as they gave up 371 yards passing. Purdue next faces an experienced quarterback in Virginia Tech starter Grant Wells, who is coming off a good debut. Wells, a redshirt senior, went 17 of 29 for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-17 home win over Old Dominion.

09-08-23 | Indiana State v. Indiana -29.5 | Top | 7-41 | Win | 100 | 7 h 1 m | Show |
Indiana (0-1) put up more than a fight in an opening weekend loss to No. 3 Ohio State, a 23-3 defeat but a game that was there for the taking in the second half when the Hoosiers trailed 10-3. Indiana is no stranger to Indiana State or the Sycamores head coach since 2017, Curt Mallory, the youngest son of former Indiana coach Bill Mallory who played football at Michigan. Allen and Curt Mallory are close and have talked consistently since the pandemic, making the pregame greeting between the two coaches more of a thoughtful recognition of mutual respect.

09-08-23 | Mariners -105 v. Rays | Top | 4-7 | Loss | -105 | 9 h 47 m | Show |
Seattle is scheduled to start All-Star right-hander George Kirby (10-9, 3.39 ERA). Tampa Bay will counter with rookie right-hander Taj Bradley (5-7, 5.42 ERA). On May 8, 2022, Kirby made his major league debut against the Rays, throwing six shutout innings while striking out seven in a no-decision. He has faced Tampa Bay only once since, when he pitched seven innings of two-run ball this year in a win on July 1. The 25-year-old is one of the top young starters in the American League, and the former first-round pick from Elon will be making his 27th start of the year. In 159 1/3 innings, Kirby has 145 strikeouts. Kirby is seeking his first victory since Aug. 5, when he defeated the Los Angeles Angels. In his start following that seven-inning outing, the right-hander threw nine shutout innings, yielding just three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles. Kirby has struggled in his past three starts, giving up 11 runs, 10 earned, in 14 2/3 innings (6.14 ERA). In his latest outing, a loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, Kirby surrendered four runs (three earned) in three innings. Bradley is seeking his first victory since June 21 against the Orioles. In his past seven starts, he is 0-4 with a 7.92 ERA. The results haven't always been favorable for Bradley, but the rookie has shown the ability to pick up strikeouts. In 79 2/3 innings, he has fanned 106. On Sunday, Bradley threw five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, in a no-decision against the Cleveland Guardians. He struck out seven but walked five.
09-08-23 | White Sox v. Tigers -135 | Top | 6-0 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 39 m | Show |
Rookie right-hander Reese Olson (3-6, 4.65 ERA) will start the series opener on Friday. The 24-year-old delivered the best performance of his young career on Saturday, tossing seven scoreless innings and limiting the White Sox to four hits. He also didn't walk a batter, though he only recorded one strikeout. It was a stark contrast to his previous start against the New York Yankees, when he walked four and struck out a career-best 10 batters. Olson's mound opponent will once again be Mike Clevinger (6-7, 3.90). The right-hander endured his worst outing of the season on Saturday, giving up eight hits and 12 runs in four innings during Detroit's 10-0 victory. Clevinger had been placed on waivers and gone unclaimed prior to that start. He didn't use that as an excuse for his poor outing.
09-07-23 | Lions +5 v. Chiefs | Top | 21-20 | Win | 100 | 35 h 35 m | Show |
Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee during the Chiefs' final practice before their opener against Detroit, leaving the status of the All-Pro tight end in question when Kansas City faces the Lions on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the injury occurred during their final full workout Tuesday but provided no other details. Players in the locker room said Kelce was hurt on a play in the red zone but was able to limp off the field on his own according to Dave Skaretta from the AP. I liked Detroit before the injury, you have to like them even more now.

09-07-23 | Diamondbacks +148 v. Cubs | Top | 6-2 | Win | 148 | 10 h 59 m | Show |
The Cubs will hand the ball to another rookie in the series opener against Arizona. Javier Assad (3-2, 2.69 ERA) is set to make his 26th appearance and eighth start of the season. Assad went 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA in five starts in August before throwing eight shutout innings in his most recent outing on Saturday at Cincinnati. He scattered seven hits, struck out seven and walked one but did not earn a decision in Chicago's 2-1 loss. Assad was in good position for a victory when Chicago took a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but the Reds scored two runs to walk it off. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo announced after the Wednesday game that right-hander Ryne Nelson would be recalled from Reno to make the start on Thursday. Nelson (6-7, 5.47 ERA) last pitched for the Diamondbacks on Aug. 11, when he allowed six runs and seven hits in three innings during a 10-5 loss to the visiting San Diego Padres. He was optioned to the minors two days later.
09-07-23 | Murray State v. Louisville -40 | Top | 0-56 | Win | 100 | 34 h 57 m | Show |
Louisville received good marks for its first game under head coach Jeff Brohm. Now the Cardinals try to treat the program's former star quarterback to success in his home debut. Louisville takes on Murray State on Thursday night. These teams last met in 2017, with the Cardinals owning a 14-6 mark overall and 11-4 at home. Murray State hasn't toppled a Football Bowl Subdivision team since knocking off Louisville 26-23 in 1984 when the divisions were NCAA I-A and I-AA.

09-07-23 | Dodgers v. Marlins UNDER 8.5 | Top | 10-0 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 49 m | Show |
Miami will count on left-hander Braxton Garrett (8-5, 3.86 ERA) to set the tone in the series finale. Garrett helped the Marlins kick off the current winning streak by allowing one run over six innings in a victory over the Washington Nationals on Aug. 31. Garrett went 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA in six August starts. One of the losses came on the road against the Dodgers on Aug. 19 in the second game of a doubleheader, when he gave up three runs over six innings. It was his first start against Los Angeles in two career appearances. Two years ago, he yielded three runs to the Dodgers in a three-inning relief outing. Urias was scheduled to start the Thursday game, but the Dodgers instead will turn to right-hander Ryan Pepiot (0-1, 1.29). After dealing with an oblique injury in the first half, Pepiot is set to take over a significant role down the stretch and into the playoffs. Pepiot has made two career appearances against the Marlins, including a five-inning relief outing Aug. 19 in the first game of a doubleheader, when he gave up one run on three hits. He started against Miami on Aug. 21, 2002, and earned a win after tossing six innings of two-run ball.

On Wednesday, Cubs rookie left-hander Jordan Wicks will vie for his third win in as many starts to begin his major league career. Wicks (2-0, 1.80 ERA) allowed just one run in five innings in each of his first two outings. He permitted five hits while celebrating his 24th birthday with a 6-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Giants left-hander Alex Wood (5-4, 4.35 ERA) will aim for his first win since July 26 when he takes the mound on Wednesday. His past nine appearances all came in relief, and he has started just 11 of his 24 games this year. Most recently, he gave up just an unearned run in three innings on Friday against the San Diego Padres. Wood, 32, is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 11 career appearances (eight starts) against the Cubs.

Right-hander Freddy Peralta (11-8, 3.85 ERA) is scheduled to start for Milwaukee on Wednesday. He will oppose rookie right-hander Colin Selby (2-0, 5.79). Peralta was the NL Pitcher of the Month for August after going 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA in five starts. In his first start of September, Peralta came away with a no-decision against Philadelphia on Friday despite a dominant performance. He allowed one run and two hits in six innings, with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

A product of the lakeside town of Okeechobee, Crawford (6-7, 4.08 ERA) will appear in his 27th game and make his 19th start of the year. The right-hander surrendered six runs and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings and absorbed a 7-4 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Before the start, Cora said Crawford had progressed tremendously from 2022 (3-6, 5.47 in 21 games).
09-05-23 | Brewers -178 v. Pirates | Top | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 16 h 2 m | Show |
The Milwaukee Brewers can't afford to lose many games, especially against non-contending teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, if they expect to hold onto first place in the National League Central. The visiting Brewers (76-61) took a 4-2 loss to the Pirates (64-74) in the opener of a three-game series Monday, dropping Milwaukee's lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs to 2 1/2 games. Things appeared to line up well for Milwaukee in this series. The Brewers' three strongest starters -- former NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta, the NL pitcher of the month for August -- were scheduled to face the Pirates. Pittsburgh, which is scrambling to field a rotation, originally did not have a projected starter for any of the three games.
09-04-23 | Clemson v. Duke +13 | Top | 7-28 | Win | 100 | 7 h 6 m | Show |
For Duke, it's an opportunity to show that last year's campaign -- the first under coach Mike Elko -- wasn't a fluke. The Blue Devils went 9-4 under Elko, their highest win total since 2014 and just the seventh time in program history that they won at least nine games. A victory over Clemson -- which has long dominated the league -- would go along way in boosting expectations and credibility for Duke. On defense, Clemson has to replace four NFL draft picks but will still be anchored by stellar linebacker duo Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who combined for 24 tackles for losses last year. Duke returns its fair share of standouts, too, including 98 percent of its offensive production. Junior quarterback Riley Leonard is back under center after totaling 33 touchdowns and more than 3,600 yards of total offense last season. On defense, the Blue Devils bring back defensive lineman DeWayne Carter and safety Brandon Johnson, each of whom had 5.5 sacks last season. Fifth-year senior Ja'Mion Franklin -- who had three sacks and five pass breakups last season -- joins Carter as an anchor on the defensive front.

09-04-23 | Astros v. Rangers -105 | Top | 13-6 | Loss | -105 | 3 h 22 m | Show |
Left-hander Andrew Heaney (9-6, 4.16 ERA), who went 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA in six August starts, will start the series opener for the Rangers and be opposed by rookie right-hander J.P. France (10-5, 3.49). Heaney is 4-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 14 career starts against Houston. He is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three starts against Houston this season, allowing just nine hits and three runs over 15 innings while striking out 15 in those contests. France won his only career start against Texas on July 25, allowing one unearned run on five hits over seven innings while striking out three. The Astros limp into the contest after getting swept in a three-game series by the New York Yankees for the first time since Sept. 27-29, 2013. The Yankees completed the sweep with a 6-1 win on Sunday night at Minute Maid Park.
