03-31-23 | Rockies v. Padres -1.5 | Top | 4-1 | Loss | -100 | 19 h 24 m | Show |
The Rockies are 29-78 in their last 107 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Nice win to start the season, the good fortune ends tonight.
03-30-23 | Twins v. Royals +1.5 | 2-0 | Loss | -123 | 11 h 59 m | Show
Right-hander Pablo Lopez won't have to wait long to make his debut with the Minnesota Twins. After he was traded to the Twins in late January, Lopez will look to make a positive first impression Thursday when he takes on the host Kansas City Royals on Opening Day. Lopez (10-10, 3.75 ERA in 2022) came over from the Miami Marlins, with whom he spent the first five seasons of his career. Minnesota also acquired a pair of prospects in the deal, but it came at a cost, as the Twins dealt reigning American League batting champion Luis Arraez to the Marlins. "I could see why so many fans were upset in a way because they traded such a good player," Lopez said. "That's just encouraging. They traded Luis Arraez to bring me in. ... It made me want to try harder.
03-30-23 | Giants +1.5 v. Yankees | Top | 0-5 | Loss | -133 | 8 h 56 m | Show |
For a few weeks during the offseason, an awkward possibility existed of Aaron Judge wearing the uniform of the San Francisco Giants and lining up along the visiting baseline while getting introduced to fans at Yankee Stadium. Instead, Judge re-signed with the New York Yankees, and the slugger will be officially introduced as the 16th captain in team history Thursday afternoon in New York's home opener against the Giants. After hitting 62 homers to break Roger Maris' single-season American League home run record, Judge spent a little over a month in free agency and the Giants were among the teams vying for his services. The Giants made such an effort to lure the California native that they reportedly offered him a $360 million contract. After a phone call from managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, Judge was retained by the Yankees on a nine-year, $360 million deal. And when Judge's new contract was official, the Yankees also named him as the team's first captain since Derek Jeter retired following the 2014 season. Judge will take the field with a shortstop drawing comparisons to Jeter when top prospect Anthony Volpe makes his major league debut. Sportsbooks consider Volpe a favorite for AL Rookie of the Year and is expected to bat ninth after officially being told Sunday he was making the Opening Day roster.
03-29-23 | Kings v. Blazers +14 | 120-80 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 14 m | Show
The Sacramento Kings came up empty in their initial attempt to clinch their first playoff berth since 2006. The Kings will take another shot to end the longest postseason drought in professional sports when they visit the downtrodden Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. Sacramento (45-30) is on the cusp of ending that ugly 16-season drought but was unable to seal the deal Monday night when it fell 119-115 to the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves. "Yeah, I mean guys wanted to clinch a playoff spot at home and wanted to share it with our fans," All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox said after the setback. "But at the end of the day, regardless of where we do it at, I think people are going to appreciate it and people are going to love it." Clinching against Portland (32-43) feels like a formality as this is the first of back-to-back games versus the Trail Blazers. There's also the fact that Portland has dropped nine of its past 10 games and will be without star guard Damian Lillard (calf), who was shut down for the season, according to a report by Bleacher Report. Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 7.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 58 games this season. Kings forward Harrison Barnes would have liked to see the home fans celebrate the milestone, but he sees the bigger picture too.
03-29-23 | Wolves v. Suns -4.5 | 100-107 | Win | 100 | 8 h 25 m | Show
All signs are pointing upward for the Phoenix Suns, who reportedly will have star Kevin Durant back in the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves. Acquired from the Brooklyn Nets at last month's trade deadline, Durant played three road games before suffering a sprained left ankle during pregame warmups on March 8. Phoenix (40-35) has gone 4-6 with Durant out of the lineup but still holds the fourth spot in the Western Conference playoff race. Suns fans have been waiting patiently for the two-time Finals MVP to make his home debut. "I always use the term 'checking the boxes,'" Suns coach Monty Williams said of Durant's comeback journey. "You have to get the pain and swelling out and all of that and then you progress onto the floor with shots. And I've seen him go from cardio to shooting to be able to get up and down a little bit and get himself prepared to go to the next level." Adding Durant to the mix comes at a good time, as the Suns appear to be trending in the right direction. Phoenix won its second straight game on Monday, beating the Utah Jazz 117-103.
03-29-23 | Clippers +4 v. Grizzlies | 141-132 | Win | 100 | 6 h 23 m | Show
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to show they can succeed with or without star guard Ja Morant. Their winning streak is at seven games in advance of a two-game visit from the Los Angeles Clippers starting Wednesday. Morant missed Memphis' 113-108 home victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday because of right thigh soreness, with the absence characterized as more of a precaution during the first game of a back-to-back set. The Grizzlies (48-27) started their current winning streak with Morant away on a self-imposed sabbatical that was changed to a league-mandated suspension as a result of questionable behavior during a live video from a nightclub. Morant missed nine games -- the first on March 5, when the Grizzlies absorbed a 135-129 defeat to the Clippers in Los Angeles. Paul George scored 42 points for the Clippers in that game, but he won't be available for this one -- he is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season with a right knee injury. Without being able to lean on Morant on Tuesday, Memphis received 31 points from Desmond Bane and a career-high 20 from Xavier Tillman.
03-29-23 | Pistons v. Thunder -11 | 106-107 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 18 m | Show
With just six games left and clinging to a spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament, the Oklahoma City Thunder can't afford to let another opportunity go to waste. A night after losing to the Charlotte Hornets, the Thunder oppose the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday in Oklahoma City. Even though his team is battling for its first playoff appearance since 2020, Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault said the possibility wouldn't derail the organization's development plan. "I think if it is an outcome that's downstream of our process and the way that we're trying to do things, it would be great, because it would be a marker along the way," Daigneault said. "Not so important that it's gonna distract us from our way of doing things. "We need to bet on that day over day over day. We've done that for two or three years. That's what's put us in a position to compete for the play-in, so for us to abandon that at this point would be hasty." The Thunder (37-39) could be without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the second consecutive game. The All-Star sprained his left ankle on Sunday in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Oklahoma City did get Aleksej Pokusevski back for Tuesday's game. The third-year forward had missed 41 games with a non-displaced fracture in his left leg. Pokusevski was scoreless in nearly 10 minutes during the Thunder's 137-134 loss to the Hornets.
03-29-23 | Mavs v. 76ers -4 | Top | 108-116 | Win | 100 | 8 h 47 m | Show |
Tom Thibodeau, the eternally straitlaced coach of the Knicks, offered a smile with his usual bottom-line analysis following New York's victory over the Houston Rockets on Monday night. "You guys know what I always say about winning," Thibodeau said. "Winning is always way more fun than fun is fun." On Wednesday night, either the Knicks or the Miami Heat will have a lot of fun -- and make the other team miserable in the process. The Knicks and Heat will each be looking to make their path to a top-six finish in the Eastern Conference easier when New York hosts Miami in the final regular-season meeting between the longtime rivals. The Knicks were off Tuesday after cruising to a 137-115 victory over the visiting Rockets on Monday night. The Heat will be completing a back-to-back road set after falling 106-92 to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night. New York (43-33) snapped a three-game losing streak and remains in fifth place in the East, 2 1/2 games ahead of the sixth-place Brooklyn Nets (40-35) and three games ahead of the Heat (40-36). The top six teams in each conference earn a playoff berth while the seventh- through 10th-place clubs compete in a play-in tournament to determine the final two seeds.
03-29-23 | Heat v. Knicks -4 | 92-101 | Win | 100 | 6 h 3 m | Show
Tom Thibodeau, the eternally straitlaced coach of the Knicks, offered a smile with his usual bottom-line analysis following New York's victory over the Houston Rockets on Monday night. The top six teams in each conference earn a playoff berth while the seventh- through 10th-place clubs compete in a play-in tournament to determine the final two seeds. Another win on Wednesday would further solidify the Knicks' playoff positioning by giving them the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Heat. New York leads the season series 2-1, though Miami earned a 127-120 win in the recent meeting in Florida on March 22.
03-28-23 | Hornets v. Thunder -9.5 | Top | 137-134 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 11 m | Show |
Returning home after splitting a four-game West Coast road trip, the Oklahoma City Thunder face a critical two-game homestand in their pursuit of a playoff spot in the crowded Western Conference race. The Thunder will host the bottom two teams in the Eastern Conference in back-to-back games, beginning with Tuesday's visit from the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets have helped the Thunder's cause over the last two games, knocking off Dallas twice to help lift Oklahoma City ahead of the Mavericks for the 10th spot in the Western Conference. The Thunder have been the outmanned but plucky underdog over the last few seasons as they've undergone a major rebuild. Now, Oklahoma City finds itself on the other side of things as it looks to knock off some teams that aren't in serious contention for a playoff spot down the stretch. The Thunder held off the Trail Blazers, 118-112, on Sunday in Portland to snap a two-game losing streak and remain in a play-in spot in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City will face the Detroit Pistons following its meeting with Charlotte, and a sweep of the two-game set would put the Thunder (37-38) above .500 for the first time since early November.
03-28-23 | Heat v. Raptors -4 | 92-106 | Win | 100 | 5 h 34 m | Show
The Toronto Raptors will try to reach the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 9 Tuesday night when they close a four-game homestand against the Miami Heat. The Raptors (37-38) won their second game in a row Sunday 114-104 over the Washington Wizards. This will be the Raptors' sixth attempt to reach .500 since they were 13-13. In the Heat (40-35), the Raptors will be facing a team that is above .500 for the first time on the homestand. Miami is coming off an embarrassing 129-100 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. Toronto leads the season series 2-1 over Miami. The teams have not played since Nov. 16 when O.G. Anunoby scored 32 points in the Raptors' 112-104 home victory. In winning for the fifth time in the past seven games on Sunday, Toronto had 29 points from Anunoby, 28 from Fred VanVleet and 19 points and 11 rebounds from Pascal Siakam. After missing two games with a wrist injury, Scottie Barnes scored 13 points. The Raptors are ninth in the Eastern Conference going into Monday and have a good hold on a play-in spot.
03-27-23 | Bulls +4.5 v. Clippers | Top | 112-124 | Loss | -115 | 13 h 45 m | Show |
Coming off one of their most embarrassing defeats of the season, the Los Angeles Clippers will try to maintain their grasp on a top-six spot in the Western Conference with a home matchup Monday night against the Chicago Bulls. The Clippers (39-36) were trounced at home 131-110 by the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. The setback left Los Angeles with losses in three of its last five games, and seven games remain in the regular season. The Clippers don't expect Paul George (knee) to return before the end of the regular season, with fellow star Kawhi Leonard held to 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field against the Pelicans. He missed all six of his attempts from 3-point range. Leonard left the game with a facial contusion.
03-27-23 | Pelicans -10.5 v. Blazers | 124-90 | Win | 100 | 13 h 35 m | Show
Trey Murphy III will attempt to follow up a contest in which he was hotter than lava when the streaking New Orleans Pelicans visit the struggling Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night. Murphy buried a career-best 10 3-pointers in just 12 attempts while scoring 32 points in Saturday's 131-110 rout of the host Los Angeles Clippers. Brandon Ingram also scored 32 as the Pelicans won their fourth consecutive game. The sight of the Trail Blazers will be pleasing to Murphy, who scored a career-best 41 points and made a then-career-high nine 3-pointers in New Orleans' 127-110 home win over Portland on March 12. He was 13 of 20 overall from the field. "I just see his confidence going up and up," Ingram said after the win in Los Angeles. "He's the best shooter on the team." Murphy is 37 of 70 (52.9 percent) from 3-point range during the past seven games for New Orleans (37-37), which resides in eighth place in the Western Conference. The Pelicans are one game out of a top-six playoff berth with eight games remaining.
03-27-23 | Rockets v. Knicks -12.5 | Top | 115-137 | Win | 100 | 10 h 8 m | Show |
In the midst of a three-day break between games that forward RJ Barrett described as "much needed," the New York Knicks turned their focus to a critical stretch run that will include matchups against a pair of opponents bracketing them in the standings. But before the Knicks (42-33) can turn their attention to the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, both of whom they will face later this week, they will host the Houston Rockets on Monday in their first action since a 111-106 road loss to the Orlando Magic on Thursday, a game that wrapped up a stretch of 11 games since March 3, with eight of those on the road. The Knicks are fifth in the Eastern Conference, wedged between the fourth-place Cavaliers and the Heat and Brooklyn Nets, who are tied for sixth. New York is on the verge of securing a playoff berth and avoiding the play-in tournament, but because it's five games behind Cleveland in the loss column, the odds of securing home-court advantage in the first round appear minuscule at best.
03-26-23 | Blues +1.5 v. Kings | Top | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 14 h 30 m | Show |
The Los Angeles Kings can set a franchise record for the longest point streak when they host the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night. The Kings have earned at least a point in 11 straight games (9-0-2), which ties the team record set in 1974 and matched in 2011, 2013 and again on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Los Angeles (42-20-10, 94 points) continues to stay on the heels of the equally red-hot Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division standings. Vegas has held Los Angeles off by going 11-2-0 in its past 13 games to maintain a four-point lead over the Kings with nine games left for the Golden Knights and 10 for Los Angeles. The point streak by Los Angeles has been a major topic of conversation around the NHL, but it hasn't been mentioned among the coaches and players.
03-26-23 | Grizzlies v. Hawks +2.5 | Top | 123-119 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 20 m | Show |
The Memphis Grizzlies will put their five-game winning streak on the line and continue their quest to earn the top playoff seed in the Western Conference on Sunday when they travel to Atlanta to play a Hawks team looking to clarify its postseason situation. The Grizzlies (46-27) are currently second in the Western Conference and trail Denver by 3 1/2 games with nine remaining. Memphis already has clinched a playoff spot and locked up its second straight Southwest Division title. The Grizzlies are coming off a 151-114 win over Houston on Friday. The Hawks (37-37) climbed back to .500 with Saturday's 143-130 win over Indiana and remain No. 8 in the Eastern Conference. This is the final game between Memphis and Atlanta this season. The Grizzlies won the first contest 128-103 on Dec. 12 in Memphis. Tyus Jones had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Jaren Jackson Jr. tied a single-game franchise record for the Grizzlies with eight blocks. Atlanta was without Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic, while the Grizzlies played without Ja Morant. Atlanta will need to slow the 3-point shooting of Luke Kennard, who set a franchise record by making 10 3-pointers on 11 attempts against Houston. Kennard was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline. He matched his career high with 30 points and tied the NBA record for the highest 3-point percentage by a player with 10 in a game, a record shared by Ty Lawson and Klay Thompson.
03-25-23 | Senators v. Devils -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 137 | 7 h 22 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils will aim to reverse their recent fortunes and secure a postseason berth on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators in Newark, N.J. The Devils (45-19-8, 98 points) have dropped five of their past six games (1-3-2) and reside two points out of punching their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They also sit two points behind the first-place Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division. Jack Hughes collected two goals and an assist in New Jersey's 5-4 setback to the host Buffalo Sabres on Friday. The Devils scored two goals in the third period before seeing their comeback bid fall just short as they attempted to secure a postseason berth. "At the end, it doesn't matter," New Jersey captain Nico Hischier said. "We lost the game. Wasn't a good game." Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler said the team was thinking too much about the playoffs and not as much about Friday's opponent.
03-24-23 | Bulls v. Blazers +2.5 | Top | 124-96 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 39 m | Show |
The Chicago Bulls are showing signs of making a late-season dash as they look for their sixth victory in eight games when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. Chicago (34-38) is in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, possessing the final play-in berth by 1 1/2 games over the Indiana Pacers. But the Bulls are also just a half-game behind the ninth-place Toronto Raptors and 1 1/2 games behind the eighth-place Atlanta Hawks. Chicago is coming off a two-game split with the third-place Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls recorded a 109-105 double-overtime road win on Monday before being pummeled 116-91 at home on Wednesday. The Bulls dug themselves early deficits of 17-0 and 23-1 in the rematch.
03-24-23 | Princeton v. Creighton -9.5 | 75-86 | Win | 100 | 8 h 10 m | Show
For the third straight year, a No. 15 reached the Sweet 16. For the second straight season, a private school from New Jersey is the noisemaker in the NCAA Tournament. Princeton coach Mitch Henderson said the Tigers received celebrity treatment since returning home from consecutive bracket-busting upsets of South No. 2 seed Arizona and No. 7 Missouri. Henderson and Princeton wade deeper into uncharted territory in a South Region semifinal game against sixth-seeded Creighton on Friday in Louisville. "I was on a show today with Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski), and he asked me the same thing," Henderson said. "I was like, 'Well, you tell me. What do we do here?'" It's not a mystery for the Ivy League champions. Henderson intends for everyone to remember what got them to this point, to stay themselves while enjoying the moment. The Tigers (23-8) haven't played like a No. 15 seed in their two tournament wins. They never trailed after the opening minutes against Missouri, made twice as many 3-pointers (12 to six) as their opponent and dominated the boards 44-30, all while handling the Tigers' pressure defense.
03-24-23 | Pistons +15 v. Raptors | 97-118 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 11 m | Show
The Toronto Raptors will try to put the advantage back into home court when they play the struggling Detroit Pistons on Friday night. The Raptors (35-38) had won seven in a row at home before losing 118-114 to the visiting Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. Meanwhile the Pistons (16-57) lost their fourth straight Tuesday 129-107 to the host Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors were without Scottie Barnes (wrist), Gary Trent Jr. (elbow) and Precious Achiuwa (hamstring) when they played the Pacers in the opener of a four-game homestand. None took part in practice on Thursday and all three are listed as questionable for Friday. Barnes took shots with a brace on his injured left wrist after practice. The Raptors, who are 23-14 at home, fell behind the Pacers 36-26 in the first quarter after a sluggish start.
03-24-23 | Pacers +12 v. Celtics | 95-120 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 50 m | Show
The Indiana Pacers are hoping to have All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton in the lineup when they face the Boston Celtics on the road Friday night. Haliburton was originally listed as questionable for Wednesday's 118-114 victory at Toronto but was ruled out just before tipoff and missed his sixth consecutive game with a right ankle injury. The Pacers have a 3-3 record during that stretch. Indiana (33-40) lost nine of 10 games during a three-week stretch in January, when Haliburton was out with a sprained left elbow. "With him out, (rookie guard Andrew Nembhard) is getting a great chance to play a lot of minutes at point, which is good for him," Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said earlier this week. "It's been much more challenging when Tyrese has been out of the lineup. I don't think that's any news flash. But we are where we are." Haliburton, 23, is averaging 20.8 points, 10.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in 54 starts this season. He had 22 points and 14 assists when the Celtics beat the Pacers 142-138 in overtime on Feb. 23. Nembhard scored 25 points and had 10 assists in Indiana's victory over Toronto.
03-24-23 | Islanders -1.5 v. Blue Jackets | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 42 m | Show
The New York Islanders will try to continue their playoff push and maintain their solid wild-card position in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. The Islanders (37-27-8, 82 points) are riding a three-game winning streak into Columbus, a stretch that includes a 7-2 home win over Toronto. In that game, the Islanders broke open a close game with four goals in the third period. The Islanders are comfortably in playoff position, holding onto the top wild-card spot while battling through late-season injuries. Brock Nelson was a full participant in Thursday's practice before the team left for Columbus. The Islanders forward left Tuesday's game against Toronto in the first period after a hit against the boards and did not return. The team picked up the slack in his absence, scoring all seven goals over the final 40 minutes. Islanders head coach Lane Lambert indicated Nelson did not return for precautionary reasons but was relieved to see him on the ice Thursday, a good sign for Friday night.
03-23-23 | Gonzaga +1.5 v. UCLA | 79-76 | Win | 100 | 12 h 14 m | Show
Thursday is the 17-year anniversary of when UCLA put on a dazzling game-ending 11-0 run for an improbable 73-71 victory in the Sweet 16 that left Gonzaga star Adam Morrison face-first on the court, crying in distress and defeat. The Bulldogs returned the heartbreak less than two years ago when Jalen Suggs drained a buzzer-beater from just inside halfcourt in overtime to give the Bulldogs a miraculous 93-90 victory over the Bruins in Final Four. More electrifying drama could be in store Thursday night when the second-seeded Bruins (31-5) and third-seeded Bulldogs (30-5) square off in the Sweet 16 in West Region play in Las Vegas. Gonzaga has won 11 straight games and is in the Sweet 16 for the eighth straight NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs beat Grand Canyon and TCU in their first two March Madness games.
03-23-23 | Cavs v. Nets +4.5 | Top | 116-114 | Win | 100 | 10 h 43 m | Show |
While the Cleveland Cavaliers appear to be peaking at the right time in a bid to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the postseason, an ill-timed losing streak may force the Brooklyn Nets into playing at least one extra game to reach the playoffs. Cleveland goes for the sweep of the two-game set and attempts to continue its recent surge Thursday night in Brooklyn, where the Nets are hoping to avoid a season-worst fifth straight loss. Cleveland (46-28) is in good shape to clinch home-court in the postseason for the first time since 2018 in LeBron James' final season of his second stint. The Cavaliers already had surpassed last year's win total when they lost to the Nets in a play-in game. Following Tuesday's 115-109 victory over the Nets, they moved 3 1/2 games ahead of the fifth-place New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference, entering Wednesday. Cleveland is 8-3 over its past 11 games since losing three straight Feb. 15-24. On Tuesday, the Cavs trailed by seven in the first quarter, took control in the second quarter and pulled away in the third before allowing a 24-point lead to get sliced down in the final minutes before struggling in the final minutes.
03-23-23 | Maple Leafs v. Panthers -1.5 | 6-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 15 m | Show
The Florida Panthers, locked in a battle to claim the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Florida (36-28-7, 79 points) is 6-1-1 in its last eight games, but the Panthers are coming off a dud performance on Tuesday, losing 6-3 to the out-of-contention Philadelphia Flyers. Prior to that, the Panthers won their third straight at the time, beating the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2. That win allowed the Panthers to pass the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild-card spot in the East, which they still hold entering Wednesday. "We have always believed in ourselves," said forward Carter Verhaeghe, who leads Florida with a career-high 36 goals. "But the job's not done yet." Verhaeghe's point was proven correct on Tuesday as Florida's backup goalie, Alex Lyon, allowed five even-strength goals against the Flyers.
03-23-23 | Michigan State v. Kansas State +1.5 | Top | 93-98 | Win | 100 | 9 h 44 m | Show |
Standing on the scorer's table with a microphone after Kansas State stunned visiting Kansas in overtime, Wildcats coach Jerome Tang led the crowd in a chant of "K-S-U!" It was what he said next that stayed with people, inside and outside of Manhattan, Kan. "I told y'all, you get one court storming," Tang said Jan. 17. "From here on out, expect to win." From the Little Apple to the Big one, third-seeded Kansas State arrives for the Sweet 16, extending Tang's first season as coach. The Wildcats will take on seventh-seeded Michigan State on Thursday at Madison Square Garden. Kansas State (25-9) defeated sixth-seeded Kentucky 75-69 in Sunday's second-round NCAA Tournament game to reach the East Region semifinals. It marks the program's first Sweet 16 appearance since 2018 and just its third since the 1980s. Tang was an assistant and associate head coach at Baylor for 20 years before getting the chance to run his own Big 12 program. He had to assemble most of the current roster through the transfer portal, with only two players returning last year's squad. That included landing feel-good story Keyontae Johnson, who collapsed on the court while playing for Florida in 2020 and worked hard to resume his basketball career.

Bearcats are 25-51-3 ATS in their last 79 games following a straight up win and 12-27-1 ATS in their last 40 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
03-21-23 | Thunder v. Clippers -6.5 | 101-100 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 55 m | Show
Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander returns this week to the city where his NBA career first took flight, with a chance to cause a disruption for his former team. Gilgeous-Alexander brings the Thunder to Los Angeles in order to face the Clippers with plenty on the line. The first of back-to-back games takes place Tuesday, with another meeting at L.A. on Thursday. Oklahoma City is making a late-season push up the standings, winning seven of its past nine games in a burst that has the team thinking big. At the start of NBA play Monday, the Thunder (35-36) were in eighth place in the Western Conference and eligible for the play-in tournament. The Clippers (38-34) are in fifth place, with a first-round spot secure at the moment, but the Thunder are just 2 1/2 games behind Los Angeles in the standings and are just one game behind the sixth-place Dallas Mavericks. After missing the playoffs the past two seasons, Oklahoma City is showing that the moment is not too large.
03-21-23 | Wisconsin v. Oregon -4.5 | Top | 61-58 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
Top-seeded Oregon will be facing a Wisconsin team similarly focused on opportunity rather than disappointment when the Ducks host the Badgers in the NIT quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Eugene, Ore. Oregon (21-14) defeated UCF 68-54 in the second round Sunday. Second-seeded Wisconsin (19-14), which had appeared in 22 of the last 23 NCAA tournaments before missing out this season, rallied past Liberty 75-71 on Sunday. "We've got a chance to play Wisconsin on Tuesday night at home. We don't get Big Ten teams to come out here very often," Oregon coach Dana Altman said. "... So I hope the students will respond, that people respond." It will be the first meeting between the two since the 12th-seeded Ducks upset the fifth-seeded Badgers 72-54 in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Oregon rolled past UCF behind a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds from 7-foot sophomore Nate Bittle. The Ducks were again without their two top scorers, post player N'Faly Dante and guard Jermaine Couisnard. Their status vs. Wisconsin is undecided.
03-21-23 | Pistons v. Hawks -13.5 | Top | 107-129 | Win | 100 | 10 h 59 m | Show |
The Atlanta Hawks will go for a season sweep against the visiting Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, needing a win against the Eastern Conference cellar-dweller to keep pace in the playoff race. The Hawks have lost three of their last four and wasted a 24-point lead in a 126-118 setback to San Antonio on Sunday. Atlanta (35-36) is No. 8 in the East, three games behind No. 7 Miami and only one-half game ahead of No. 9 Toronto and 1 1/2 games ahead of No. 10 Chicago before Monday's games. This will be the final meeting between Atlanta and Detroit. The Hawks won the first two games in Detroit and then the most recent meeting, 130-105 on Dec. 23 in Atlanta. Atlanta coach Quin Snyder said his team needs to learn from its poor second-half performance against the Spurs. The Hawks led 83-61 at halftime but scored only 35 points in the second half, with just 15 in the fourth quarter.
03-20-23 | Rice v. Southern Utah -6 | Top | 79-81 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 52 m | Show |
The Owls are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
03-19-23 | Creighton +1.5 v. Baylor | Top | 85-76 | Win | 100 | 7 h 23 m | Show |
Ryan Kalkbrenner could pose a matchup problem for his next opponent as sixth-seeded Creighton and third-seeded Baylor prepare for a second-round showdown at the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in Denver. Both programs are eyeing a return to the Sweet 16 via the South Region. Baylor and Creighton each made the second weekend of the tournament in 2021, when the Bears went on to win the national championship, but both lost in the second round in 2022. Kalkbrenner, the 7-foot-1 center who leads Creighton (22-12) in scoring at 15.9 points per game is coming off a career-high 31-point showing in the Bluejays' 72-63 first-round win over North Carolina State. Kalkbrenner had six dunks and seven rebounds in that game and finished 11-for-14 from the floor. He leads Division I in field-goal percentage at 71.4 percent, with a 74.4 percent rate from two-point range. That spells trouble for the Bears (23-10), despite their higher seed and championship experience. Their weakness is guarding the interior; they rank outside the top 300 nationally in two-point defense, allowing 53.4 percent shooting inside the arc.
03-19-23 | Kentucky v. Kansas State +3 | 69-75 | Win | 100 | 3 h 6 m | Show
Diminutive Markquis Nowell is used to being the smallest player on the court, while typically making a big impact. The standout point guard will aim to lead third-seeded Kansas State to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2018 when it battles another band of Wildcats in sixth-seeded Kentucky on Sunday in NCAA Tournament second-round East Region play at Greensboro, N.C. The 5-foot-8 Nowell matched his career high of 14 assists and also had 17 points, six rebounds and three steals as Kansas State (24-9) posted a 77-65 victory over Montana State in Friday's first round. "It's a blessing to tie my career high, but I have to give credit to my teammates for getting open and finishing the plays," Nowell said. "It was just a well-executed ball game and game plan that the coaching staff came up with, and the players, we executed it." Nowell has a single-season program-record 257 assists this season, shattering the mark set by school legend Steve Henson (186 in 1987-88). The 14 assists against Montana State also is the most in an NCAA Tournament game by a Kansas State player, passing Henson's 12 in a 73-70 win over Purdue on March 25, 1988.
03-17-23 | Florida Atlantic +2 v. Memphis | 66-65 | Win | 100 | 5 h 12 m | Show
While this season has already been a Cinderella story for Florida Atlantic, the Owls still have a chance to tack on another chapter. Ninth-seeded FAU will have the chance to capture its first NCAA Tournament win on Friday at Columbus, Ohio, when it takes on No. 8 seed Memphis in an East Region first-round game. The Owls (31-3) have recorded their most wins in program history, received their first ranking in the AP Top 25 poll and defeated UAB 78-56 on Saturday to win the Conference USA tournament. FAU has been to the NCAA Tournament just one other time -- losing to Alabama in 2002 -- and now has the chance to get familiar with Memphis (26-8), which is trying to become a tourney regular again. The two teams will be seeing plenty of each other when FAU joins join the American Athletic Conference in July. "The suspense was gone because we knew we were in, but we were excited to see who we were going to play, where we were going to play and when," Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May said. "Obviously, Memphis is a great opponent, a storied program, well-coached. We're excited to see how we stack up with our future AAC opponent." Chances are, Memphis will be the team to beat in the conference next season. It is coming off Sunday's 75-65 victory over then-No. 1 Houston in the AAC tournament championship game.
03-17-23 | Fairleigh Dickinson v. Purdue -23 | Top | 63-58 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 24 m | Show |
Even a No. 1 seed can find areas of improvement as the NCAA Tournament begins. Such is the case with top-seeded Purdue as it prepares to play No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday in an East Region first-round game at Columbus, Ohio. Fairleigh Dickinson earned the matchup against the Boilermakers by virtue of their 84-61 win over Texas Southern on Wednesday in a First Four matchup at Dayton, Ohio. Purdue (29-5) enters the tournament having won five consecutive games and their 29 wins are the second-highest total in school history. Purdue won the Big Ten regular season crown by three games then held off Penn State 67-65 for the conference tournament title. Now the Boilermakers look for the trifecta with a run to a first-ever national championship. This is the fourth time Purdue has earned a No. 1 seed and first since 1996. But Purdue coach Matt Painter would like to see his team handle the ball better, a problem that cropped up late in the Big Ten regular season. Purdue's only rough patch came in February when they lost three of four and four of six. In losses to Indiana and Northwestern they turned the ball over 16 times. In a win over Iowa, they committed 17. In three Big Ten tourney wins, they committed just 25 total.
03-16-23 | Northern Kentucky +18.5 v. Houston | 52-63 | Win | 100 | 8 h 23 m | Show
Looking for an excuse to believe Northern Kentucky can become the second No. 16 seed to shock a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament's first round? Here you go: Cincinnati served as one of the two common opponents between Northern Kentucky (22-12) and top-ranked Houston (31-3) during the regular season. The Cougars defeated the Bearcats three times by an average of 13.3 points per game - while the Norse knocked off the Bearcats by 13 on Nov. 16. There you have it: Proof that Houston and Northern Kentucky will be pretty much equals when they meet Thursday night in Midwest Regional first-round action in Birmingham, Ala. Of course, once you parse their other common opponent (Kent State, which Houston beat by five points and Northern Kentucky lost to by 22) as well as the rest of their schedules, it's clear the Cougars boast a far superior resume than the Horizon League tournament champs. But anything can happen in one two-hour stretch, right?
03-15-23 | Arizona State -2 v. Nevada | Top | 98-73 | Win | 100 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
A pair of No. 11 seeds led by high-profile coaches square off when Nevada takes on Arizona State in a First Four play-in game Wednesday at Dayton, Ohio. The winner will advance to play No. 6 seed TCU on Friday in Denver in a West Regional first-round game. The storylines will be rich in this showdown as Arizona State (22-12) has benefitted greatly from two Nevada transfers who left Steve Alford's program after the 2021-22 season and are now playing for Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley. Desmond Cambridge Jr. is a point guard for the Sun Devils and 7-footer Warren Washington is a force near the basket.
03-14-23 | Villanova +4.5 v. Liberty | 57-62 | Loss | -115 | 7 h 49 m | Show
Despite a litany of injuries to key players, Villanova rallied to win seven of its final 10 games to secure a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. The Wildcats will travel to face No. 2 seed Liberty on Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va. Justin Moore, who ruptured his Achilles in the Elite Eight last season against Houston, missed 20 games this season. Big East Freshman of the Year Cam Whitmore was sidelined for the first seven games following surgery on his right thumb. And Jordan Longino was out for eight games in the middle of the Big East schedule with a hamstring injury. Villanova (17-16) was ousted by Creighton, 87-74, in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
03-13-23 | Sabres v. Maple Leafs -1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 49 m | Show |
The Buffalo Sabres will bid to boost their flickering playoff hopes Monday night when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres trail the New York Islanders by seven points for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 overtime loss at home to the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Sabres, who have one win in their past seven games (1-5-1), open a three-game road trip on Monday. The Sabres played a solid defense against the Rangers before falling on Artemi Panarin's overtime goal with defenseman Rasmus Dahlin in the penalty box. "This one, it's really tough because we played a good game," Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen said. "How tight we played on defense, how good we were, I think, in both ends. It stinks to lose this one, but it is what it is." It was a good defensive response to a disastrous 10-4 home loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
03-13-23 | Pacers -3.5 v. Pistons | Top | 97-117 | Loss | -110 | 16 h 29 m | Show |
The Eastern Conference play-in tournament has given the Indiana Pacers something to aim for during the final month of the season. They can continue their postseason push with another road victory over the downtrodden and depleted Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Indiana is within striking distance of the ninth and 10th spots in the conference. The Pacers handed the Pistons their 11th consecutive loss on Saturday, 121-115. The Pacers played without All-Star and leading scorer Tyrese Haliburton due to a bruised left knee. Center Myles Turner (back), Bennedict Mathurin (ankle) and T.J. McConnell (back) also missed the game. In their absence, Jalen Smith erupted for 20 points and nine rebounds. The Pacers also got big games from Isaiah Jackson, who had 19 points and 11 rebounds (six offensive), and Andrew Nembhard, who contributed 19 points and eight assists. The game was special for Jackson, who grew up in Detroit and had 60 family members and friends in the crowd. He helped Indiana outrebound Detroit 58-42.
03-12-23 | Bruins -1.5 v. Red Wings | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 31 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins made history on Saturday with a hard-fought home victory against Detroit on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins will look for back-to-back victories over the Red Wings when they visit Detroit on Sunday. The Bruins became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 50 wins with their 3-2 victory. Boston got to the half-century mark in 64 games. The previous record of 66 games was shared by the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning. Garnet Hathaway scored on a rebound at 13:54 of the third period as Boston rallied from a two-goal deficit. "Fifty wins is great. And it's kind of a testament to how hard this team has continued to work throughout the year," Hathaway said. "But I think guys want 51, you know? Guys are excited to play this team tomorrow already." Detroit, which has lost seven of its last eight games, scored twice in the first five minutes on Andrew Copp's shorthanded goal and Alex Chiasson's power play tally.
03-11-23 | Fordham v. Dayton -5.5 | Top | 68-78 | Win | 100 | 13 h 15 m | Show |
Flyers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
03-11-23 | Red Wings v. Bruins -1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -140 | 11 h 47 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins are coming off the type of game that has been few and far between this season. After allowing three unanswered goals to the Edmonton Oilers in Thursday's 3-2 loss, Boston will look to bounce back when it plays host to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday to begin a weekend home-and-home series between the Original Six teams. Despite leading 2-0 on first-period goals by Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery described his team as "non-competitive" offensively. As a result, a season-high win streak was snapped at 10 games. "Turning down shots, not driving to hard areas, not winning enough battles to create O-zone time," Montgomery said. "We sat back at times. Where we should've been pushing the envelope, we were sealing the envelope." The Bruins (49-9-5) still find themselves in a comfortable position following their first loss since Feb. 11 and only their third at home all season. They still lead the overall NHL standings by nine points over Carolina. Boston entered Thursday with a chance to become the first team to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
03-10-23 | Raptors v. Lakers +2 | 112-122 | Win | 100 | 11 h 24 m | Show
Bloodied yet not deterred, Anthony Davis will continue to lead the Los Angeles Lakers' playoff push during a home matchup against the Toronto Raptors on Friday. Davis has averaged 33.0 points with 13.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks over his last five games as the Lakers continue to move up the Western Conference standings in an effort to lock down a spot in the play-in tournament. The Lakers moved into ninth place Tuesday with a 112-103 home victory over the Memphis Grizzlies when Davis scored 30 points with a season-best 22 rebounds. The productive night came as he took a blow from Memphis' David Roddy that left him bleeding from inside and outside of his nose, costing time to receive medical attention. The schedule will dictate that Davis plays through the discomfort. Los Angeles has just 16 games remaining and they have been playing without star LeBron James, who could miss another three weeks with a tendon injury in his right foot.
03-10-23 | Maryland v. Indiana -2 | Top | 60-70 | Win | 100 | 10 h 11 m | Show |
No. 19-ranked Indiana has a decorated past and checks all the boxes as a college basketball blueblood. But the Hoosiers, for all their success, have never won the Big Ten tournament. Since 1998, when the event kicked off, Indiana has reached the final only once, losing to Iowa in 2001. Is this finally the year? The quest for third-seeded Indiana (21-10) will begin Friday night in Chicago with a quarterfinal game against sixth-seeded Maryland (21-11). The Hoosiers put themselves in a strong position by earning a prized double bye, which came by virtue of a 75-73 overtime win Sunday against visiting Michigan. In his final game at Assembly Hall, Trayce Jackson-Davis had 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists. The Hoosiers rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit and got to overtime on a 3-pointer by Big Ten Freshman of the Year Jalen Hood-Schifino with 59 seconds left. The win completed an inconsistent end of the season for the Hoosiers, who beat regular-season champion Purdue twice in February but also lost at Northwestern and Michigan State and fell by 22 points on Feb. 28 at home against Iowa.
03-10-23 | Blazers v. 76ers -8.5 | 119-120 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 56 m | Show
The surging Philadelphia 76ers will look for their fourth straight victory when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. The Sixers completed a difficult five-game road trip with a 4-1 record. It was capped by wins over the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Philadelphia defeated the Timberwolves, 117-94, on Tuesday as Joel Embiid led the way with 39 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Tyrese Maxey added 27 points for the Sixers, who won handily without James Harden due to left foot soreness. Harden's status is unclear for the game against the Trail Blazers. Embiid elevated his play again and had another Most Valuable Player-type performance in just three quarters. With the game well in control, Embiid was able to rest for the fourth. Embiid was 13-for-22 from the field, including 4-for-4 from 3-point territory. He also made all nine free throws.
03-09-23 | Hornets v. Pistons +4.5 | 113-103 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 19 m | Show
The Detroit Pistons nearly overcame the absence of numerous starters and second unit players on Tuesday. The final result was another loss, their ninth in a row. They'll look to end the slide when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night. Their home game against Washington was tied in the final minute, but the Pistons allowed two costly offensive rebounds and the Wizards won 119-117 on Daniel Gafford's putback at the buzzer. It was Detroit's sixth loss by six or fewer points during the current skid. "Everyone looks at the last play, but there were a lot of plays before that," Pistons coach Dwane Casey said. "I applaud those guys for fighting that hard against a team trying to make the playoffs. A lot of them weren't here two weeks ago, and they are still figuring out how to play together." Detroit's injured list included leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic (Achilles), Alec Burks (foot), Jalen Duren (ankle), Killian Hayes (hand), Hamidou Diallo (ankle) and Isaiah Stewart (hip). Franchise player Cade Cunningham suffered a season-ending shin injury in November.
03-08-23 | Oregon State +11 v. Arizona State | Top | 57-63 | Win | 100 | 12 h 34 m | Show |
Arizona State's hopes for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament took a hit with two losses last week, but coach Bobby Hurley remains confident in his squad. The sixth-seeded Sun Devils aim for a fresh start on Wednesday when they face No. 11 seed Oregon State in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas. Arizona State (20-11, 11-9 Pac-12) closed the regular season with three road games, beating then-No. 7 Arizona before falling to then-No. 4 UCLA and USC. "I'm happy with my team," Hurley said. "I am very proud of our team. We're now 20-11; we had a very tough finish to the regular season. Take any NCAA team and ask them to go to Arizona, UCLA and USC with their last three games and see what their record is. So I'm happy for my guys." Oregon State (11-20, 5-15) lost both meetings against the Sun Devils this season. Arizona State won 74-69 in Corvallis, Ore., on Jan. 14 before pulling away late in a 68-57 victory on Feb. 2. "Oregon State has played us well both games," Hurley said. "They have young players. I'm sure they'll play freely with nothing to lose." The Beavers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 69-66 win over Cal on Saturday. Sophomore guard Glenn Taylor Jr. scored a career-high 28 points in the victory.
03-08-23 | Hawks v. Wizards +4.5 | Top | 122-120 | Win | 100 | 7 h 55 m | Show |
The Washington Wizards will have an opportunity to make up more ground in the playoff race on Wednesday when they host the Atlanta Hawks for the first of a two-game series. The Wizards, who beat the Detroit Pistons 119-117 at the buzzer on Tuesday, are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, the final spot in the play-in tournament. The Hawks are No. 8 after a 130-128 road loss to the Miami Heat on Monday, and they lead Washington by just one game. Washington and Atlanta met for the first time this season on Feb. 28, with the Wizards coming back to take a 119-116 road win. The teams will face off again on Thursday in the nation's capital before completing the series on April 5 in Atlanta. Washington ended a two-game losing streak by beating the cellar-dwelling Pistons. Bradley Beal misfired on a driving shot with one second left, but Daniel Gafford was able to tip in the rebound for the winning points.
03-08-23 | Boston College v. North Carolina -11 | 61-85 | Win | 100 | 7 h 58 m | Show
Seventh-seeded North Carolina will make a final push to land in its 12th straight NCAA Tournament when it faces 10th-seeded Boston College in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament on Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C. The Tar Heels, who opened the season atop the AP poll, were inconsistent throughout the regular season, which they ended with a 62-57 loss to visiting Duke on Saturday. North Carolina (19-12) needs a deep run in the ACC tournament to boost its chances of making the NCAA Tournament. But Boston College (16-16) likely needs to win the conference tournament to make the field of 68. "The ACC tournament is definitely huge for us," said North Carolina forward Armando Bacot, whose team lost in the NCAA title game last season. "We're just going in there with the mindset: We just gotta go win, really. That's all we can do." While North Carolina received a first-round bye, the Eagles used a second-half surge against 15th-seeded Louisville to overcome the Cardinals' three-point halftime advantage for an 80-62 win on Tuesday.
03-07-23 | Georgia Tech v. Florida State +2.5 | 61-60 | Win | 100 | 4 h 1 m | Show
Mired in a nine-game losing streak a month ago, it was hard to see much good coming out of this season for Georgia Tech. But the Yellow Jackets have won five of their past six games and enter the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament with renewed confidence. Seeded 13th, Georgia Tech (14-17) will play 12th-seeded Florida State (9-22) Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C., in the tournament's opening round. Coming off a 73-65 win Saturday at Boston College, when Georgia Tech rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final 10 minutes, the Yellow Jackets are feeling good vibes, especially considering the site of this week's tournament. "The last time we were in Greensboro, we won it all," said Kyle Sturdivant, referring to the Yellow Jackets' 80-75 win over Florida State in the 2021 title game. "We just have to keep stacking days and keep getting better." It will take a lot of stacking (five wins in five days) to capture this ACC tournament. The Yellow Jackets' turnaround has been sparked by 3-point marksmanship. After shooting 30 percent from deep in its first 13 ACC games, the Yellow Jackets have hit at a 41 percent clip since. The team's top scorer, Miles Kelly, has led the surge. He hit only 30.4 percent from distance in January but has made 41.8 percent since. Lance Terry has had a similar spike from 3-point range, improving from 36.4 percent in January to 47.7 percent since.
03-06-23 | Blazers -5.5 v. Pistons | 110-104 | Win | 100 | 9 h 15 m | Show
The Detroit Pistons carry a lengthy losing streak into the opener of a five-game homestand. The Pistons have lost seven straight heading into Monday night's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. Detroit committed 24 turnovers while enduring a 114-90 thumping from Cleveland on Saturday night. The Pistons were down nine points at halftime, then got outscored 42-22 in the third period. "In the third quarter, when they turned up the energy and intensity, we kind of got back on our heels," Detroit coach Dwane Casey said. "You're not going to beat anybody turning the ball over 24 times, and then they got themselves going, got the shots they wanted. The persistence and sustainability of our defense and our play has to grow, and that's the issue as a young team." It hasn't helped that Casey's starting five and rotation has been in constant flux due to injuries and roster additions and subtractions. Leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic sat out on Saturday due to Achilles soreness. Power forward Isaiah Stewart (right hip soreness) and center Jalen Duren (ankle soreness) also were sidelined, forcing Casey to construct an entirely new front-court lineup. Guard Killian Hayes left the game in the third quarter due to a hand injury.
03-06-23 | NC-Wilmington v. Hofstra -7.5 | Top | 79-73 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 20 m | Show |
Seahawks are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
03-05-23 | Northwestern v. Rutgers -5 | 65-53 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 54 m | Show
Thursday's stunning, last-second loss at Big Ten cellar dweller Minnesota staggered Rutgers, no doubt. But sullying the Scarlet Knights' NCAA tournament hopes, to boot? Coach Steve Pikiell isn't so sure as Rutgers prepares to host Northwestern in the regular-season finale Sunday night. "At the end of the year they decide who goes to the tournament; they don't do it after every game," Pikiell said. "I know everyone talks about it after every game. We've done a lot of good things. ... I'm not worried about (the resume). Everyone else can talk about it; we've got to get ready for Northwestern." Rutgers (18-12, 10-9 Big Ten) appeared primed for a third win in four games, leading Minnesota by 10 points with 1:15 to play. But the Golden Gophers closed the game on a 15-4 run, capped by Jamison Battle's 3-pointer at the buzzer. Clifford Omoruyi notched a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds and Cam Spencer scored 21 points for the Scarlet Knights, but it turned out the team could have used one more basket. Northwestern (20-10, 11-8) also is in dire need of momentum as it seeks to solidify its standing for a possible NCAA berth, as well as seeding for next week's conference tournament in Chicago.
03-05-23 | Suns +1.5 v. Mavs | 130-126 | Win | 100 | 3 h 28 m | Show
The Phoenix Suns wrap up a four-game road swing on Sunday in a matinee against a Dallas Mavericks team that seeks consecutive wins for the first time since before the All-Star break. In its second game since Kevin Durant joined the lineup, Phoenix scored a second straight blowout win on Friday with its 125-104 romp at Chicago. Durant -- acquired in a trade from Brooklyn last month -- finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists against the Bulls. He debuted with 23 points and six rebounds on Wednesday in Charlotte, helping the Suns to a 105-91 win over the Hornets. "He's just being himself," Devin Booker said of Durant in a postgame interview with Bally Sports Arizona following Friday's win. "That's what we need from him. He's on a minute restriction, and he's still getting to it. The more aggressive he is -- you see them doubling him tonight -- just freed up shots for everybody." Booker capitalized on being freed with Durant on the floor each of the last two games, scoring 37 points in Charlotte and 35 in Chicago. Booker and Durant accounted for two of the three Phoenix scorers with 20-plus points on Friday, as Josh Okogie finished with 25. As for Durant's playing-time restriction, he played 26:50 and 30:54 in his two initial appearances since joining the Suns after an MCL sprain.
03-04-23 | Stanford +7.5 v. Oregon | 68-73 | Win | 100 | 6 h 36 m | Show
Two teams trending in the right direction ahead of next week's Pac-12 tournament will meet when Stanford takes on Oregon on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Oregon (17-13, 11-8) kept its hopes for a first-round bye in the conference tourney alive with an 84-51 win over visiting California on Thursday. The win moved the Ducks into a virtual tie for fourth place in the Pac-12 with Arizona State. Oregon can secure the fourth seed in the tournament in Las Vegas with a win over Stanford and an Arizona State loss to Southern California on Saturday. Stanford (13-17, 7-12) is seeking its third straight win after recording double-digit victories over Washington and Oregon State. Spencer Jones scored 25 points and made five 3-pointers in Thursday's 83-60 win over the Beavers. Brandon Angel had 15 points and Maxime Raynaud added 13 for Stanford, which can finish anywhere from eighth to 10th in the conference depending on Saturday's results.
03-04-23 | Tennessee v. Auburn -2 | 70-79 | Win | 100 | 4 h 46 m | Show
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes continues to stress how resilient his Volunteers have been in handling injuries. That resiliency will be tested Saturday afternoon in the Southeastern Conference regular-season finale at Auburn. The 12th-ranked Vols (22-8, 11-6 SEC) are without starting point guard Zakai Zeigler as they try to clinch a top-four finish in conference and double bye in the SEC tournament. A win over the Tigers (19-11, 9-8) will assure them of that, but a loss leaves them in jeopardy of the league's tie-breaking process depending on how Missouri fares against Ole Miss and Vanderbilt does against Mississippi State this weekend. They are tied at 10-7 in the conference. The Vols could earn a No. 3 seed if Kentucky loses at Arkansas on Saturday. The loss of Zeigler to a season-ending knee injury in Tuesday night's 75-57 win over Arkansas complicates the Vols' prospects. He is one of four Vols scoring in double figures but perhaps more key than his 10.3 average are his league-leading 5.4 assists a game and his team-best 59 steals.
03-04-23 | Iowa State +8 v. Baylor | 73-58 | Win | 100 | 2 h 11 m | Show
No. 7 Baylor will aim to avenge a 15-point loss to Iowa State earlier this season when it closes the regular season with a home matchup against the slumping Cyclones in Big 12 play on Saturday in Waco, Texas. Iowa State's 77-62 victory on Dec. 31 came when the Cyclones were flying high and it also marked the start of a three-game slide for the Bears. Now the story is vastly different as Baylor (22-8, 11-6 Big 12) has won 12 of its last 15 games to move into a three-way tie for second place. Meanwhile, Iowa State (17-12, 8-9) has dropped four straight and eight of 10 to fall into sixth place. The Cyclones have fallen out of the Top 25 and dismissed third-leading scorer Caleb Grill earlier this week for "a failure to meet the program's expectations." After home losses to Oklahoma and West Virginia, the Cyclones appear to be in a state of decay.

03-01-23 | Bulls v. Pistons +6.5 | Top | 117-115 | Win | 100 | 9 h 33 m | Show |
No matter where the Detroit Pistons play the Chicago Bulls, the outcome stays the same. Detroit has lost to its Central Division rival 13 consecutive times, most recently in a visit to Paris. The Pistons will try to snap that long streak when they host Chicago on Wednesday. Detroit had the upper hand in the series as recently as the 2018-19 season. The Pistons swept that campaign's four-game series, giving them seven straight wins against the Bulls. Chicago completed season series sweeps the past three years. The Bulls also have won the first two matchups this season: 132-118 in Chicago on Dec. 30 and 126-108 in Paris on Jan. 19. Following the Wednesday game, the teams will meet up one more time, in the regular-season finale at Chicago on April 9. Winning against any team is a demanding task for the Pistons this season. They have lost five straight and sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 15-47 record.
03-01-23 | Richmond -1.5 v. St. Joe's | Top | 67-83 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 42 m | Show |

02-28-23 | Blazers v. Warriors -4 | 105-123 | Win | 100 | 10 h 14 m | Show
Longtime rivals Damian Lillard and Klay Thompson will try to bring their "A" games to a showdown Tuesday night when the Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors hook up in San Francisco. Lillard erupted for a career-high 71 points -- 10 more than in any previous game -- on Sunday night in a 131-114 home win over the Houston Rockets. The Oakland native was remarkably accurate from every distance on the court, going 22-for-38 overall, 13-for-22 on 3-point attempts and 14-for-14 from the free-throw line. The 13 threes were a career best for Lillard and came within one of the NBA record set by Thompson in Chicago in 2018. Thompson also took advantage of a visit from the Rockets to approach the record last week, going 12-for-17 on 3-point attempts in a 42-point night on Friday. Seeing the need to pump up his offensive game with Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins out of the lineup, Thompson followed up Sunday with six more 3-pointers and 32 points in a 109-104 home triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
02-28-23 | Miami-OH +1.5 v. Western Michigan | 77-62 | Win | 100 | 9 h 60 m | Show
The RedHawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall, while the Broncos are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 games vs. a team with a losing straight-up record.
02-27-23 | Idaho State +5.5 v. Northern Colorado | 72-87 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 2 m | Show

02-27-23 | Pistons v. Hornets -6 | 106-117 | Win | 100 | 9 h 15 m | Show
The Charlotte Hornets qualify as one of the hottest teams in the NBA while on a four-game winning streak that they take into Monday night's matchup against the visiting Detroit Pistons. Only two teams held longer winning streaks heading into play Sunday, and with the Pistons the only team in the Eastern Conference with a worse record than Charlotte, the Hornets will sample the role as favorite for Monday's game. "Just keep it going," Charlotte guard Kelly Oubre Jr. said. The Pistons will arrive with a four-game losing streak, although a chunk of their rare success this season has come when facing the Hornets. The Hornets won their final two games prior to the All-Star break and came back to action and picked up where they left off, winning Friday night on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Saturday night at home against the Miami Heat.
02-27-23 | Red Wings v. Senators -1.5 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 185 | 9 h 6 m | Show |
Derek Lalonde hopes a frustrating loss won't bring his team down. The first-year Detroit coach watched his players put 45 shots on goal against Tampa Bay on Saturday night and still get shut out 3-0. Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy cooled down a Red Wings team that had won seven of its previous eight games. Detroit now plays back-to-back nights at Ottawa on Monday and Tuesday. "With all the winning we've done a good job not getting too high. That has led to good performance after good performance, good start after good start," he said. "It's the same message with a low -- don't get too low. We've got to move on from this. It's going to be a really fun chase for a playoff spot. Embrace it." The Red Wings were blanked for just the third time this season. Tampa Bay scored a first-period goal and another with seven seconds left in the second period. Detroit outshot the Lightning in that period 19-3. Tampa Bay added an empty-net goal.
02-26-23 | Arlington Renegades +5.5 v. Houston Roughnecks | 14-23 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 25 m | Show
Renegades, quarterback Drew Plitt only threw four incomplete passes (including one interception) against Vegas last Saturday (19-of-25). He totaled 172 yards through the air and averaged 6.9 yards per attempt. Collectively, Arlington ran for an additional 83 yards. Plitt's top receiver was Tyler Vaughns (four receptions, 38 yards), while running backs De'Veon Smith and Keith Ford combined to account for 66 of those

02-26-23 | San Antonio Brahmas v. Orlando Guardians +4 | 30-12 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 29 m | Show
Orlando didn't have nearly enough answers last Saturday night, as the Houston Roughnecks thoroughly dominated the Guardians. The 33-12 rout was the only game in Week 1 that was decided by more than four points. Paxton Lynch started the game at quarterback for Orlando but was benched and replaced by Quinten Dormady after completing 14 of 20 pass attempts for 125 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Bet on a bounce-back effort today.
02-26-23 | Nets v. Hawks -5 | 127-129 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 18 m | Show
The Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets produced different results when they returned from the All-Star break. How each club responds on Sunday at Atlanta, when they meet for the third time this season, could set a tone for the rest of the season. Atlanta, which fired coach Nate McMillan during the break, is coming off a 136-119 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. That ended a two-game losing streak and kept the Hawks at No. 8 in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn, which unloaded two high-profile players before the trade deadline, struggled mightily in a 131-87 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday. The Nets are No. 5 in the East but have lost four of their last six.

02-25-23 | USC v. Utah +2.5 | 62-49 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 17 m | Show
Southern California will attempt to add an impressive line on its NCAA Tournament resume Saturday when it visits Utah for a Pac-12 game in Salt Lake City. Teetering on the edge of at-large eligibility, USC (20-8, 12-5 Pac-12) has run out of favorable matchups the rest of the way. A daunting three-game close to the regular season starts at Utah (17-12, 10-8) before the Trojans head home for games against No. 7 Arizona and Arizona State. That stretch is followed by the Pac-12 Tournament. The Trojans reached 20 victories for a program-record fourth consecutive season on Thursday with a convincing 84-65 win at Colorado. Boogie Ellis had 21 points, while Kobe Johnson and Reese Dixon-Waters each added 15. USC's 56.9 percent shooting performance from the field was its second-best of the season. They won't be so lucky tonight
02-25-23 | Pacers +2.5 v. Magic | 121-108 | Win | 100 | 8 h 8 m | Show
Two young teams looking to make a push for the Eastern Conference play-in tournament meet when the Orlando Magic host the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. Orlando is 20-15 since a 5-20 start and sits 13th in the East, while Indiana is a half-game ahead at 26-35 overall. Rookie-of-the-year favorite Paolo Banchero leads the Magic, who emerged with a 108-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday in their first game after the All-Star break. Orlando has struggled to secure the win in close games this season, but was able to notch the win over Detroit when Wendell Carter Jr. tipped in Banchero's missed layup at the buzzer.
02-25-23 | Ducks v. Hurricanes -1.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -175 | 7 h 15 m | Show
The Anaheim Ducks haven't had many highlights this season, but a sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes would be something to add to the end-of-season reel. Anaheim will face the Hurricanes on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C. The Ducks beat Carolina 4-3 in overtime on Dec. 6 in Anaheim, their only win in a 10-game stretch. The Hurricanes sit atop the Metropolitan Division standings, while the Ducks are at the bottom of the Pacific Division standings. "It's been tough sledding this year for us," said Anaheim center Ryan Strome, who scored the overtime winner against Carolina earlier this season. "In such a tough season, you want to ride the highs as much as you can." Anaheim will arrive at PNC Arena on a high note after beating the host Washington Capitals 4-2 on Thursday. Making the victory even more satisfying was the way Anaheim found success without two of its best players, co-leading goal-scorer Adam Henrique and defenseman John Klingberg, both of whom were out with lower-body injuries and remain questionable to face Carolina.

02-25-23 | Clemson +6.5 v. NC State | 96-71 | Win | 100 | 1 h 32 m | Show
North Carolina State has done so much to improve its stock the past few weeks that the Wolfpack ought to be rolling toward the postseason. There's no sense in slowing down now with the home finale coming against Clemson on Saturday afternoon at Raleigh, N.C. "It's great energy," NC State guard Jarkel Joiner said. "Every timeout, we're talking and communicating. We try not to get too high and stay in the moment and try to just keep it rolling." NC State (22-7, 12-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won its past two games against visiting North Carolina and Wake Forest. Joiner matched his season-high point total in those games with 29 in each outing. Clemson (20-8, 12-5) has plenty of work to do even though the Tigers are one rung ahead of the Wolfpack in the ACC standings.
02-24-23 | Nevada -2.5 v. Fresno State | 60-56 | Win | 100 | 14 h 33 m | Show
Wolf Pack are 67-32-4 ATS in their last 103 games following an ATS win and 21-8-2 ATS in their last 31 games overall. The Bulldogs are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games.
02-24-23 | Thunder v. Suns -7.5 | Top | 115-124 | Win | 100 | 13 h 8 m | Show |
The Phoenix Suns were underachievers earlier this season, and deficiencies were evident when star guard Devin Booker was sidelined with a hamstring injury. But Phoenix won 11 of 15 games prior to the All-Star break, Booker is back healthy and the acquisition of Kevin Durant re-energized the squad. Suddenly, the Suns again are viewed as a title contender with just 22 games left in the regular season. Durant won't be on the court Friday night when Phoenix resumes play after the All-Star break with a home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but his effect is already evident. Durant sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on Jan. 8 while he was a member of the Brooklyn Nets. He is close to a return -- possibly Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks but more likely Wednesday versus the Charlotte Hornets -- and impressed his new teammates during a serious scrimmage on Thursday.

02-24-23 | Cavs v. Hawks | 119-136 | Win | 100 | 11 h 44 m | Show
The Atlanta Hawks will have new leadership on the bench when they return from the All-Star break to host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. During the break, the Hawks dismissed coach Nate McMillan and appointed Joe Prunty as his interim replacement. Prunty started his career as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs under coach Gregg Popovich in 2000 and has been an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland. Prunty was on staff in Milwaukee from 2014-18 and was interim head coach there in 2018, compiling a 21-16 record. Prunty has been the lead assistant in Atlanta since 2021. McMillan was viewed as a hero when he replaced Lloyd Pierce in March 2021 and led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference final that season. But McMillan butted heads several times with high-scoring guard Trae Young and the team entered the break in eighth place in the East with a disappointing 29-30 record.

02-23-23 | Penn State v. Ohio State -2 | Top | 75-71 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 39 m | Show |
Penn State looks to keep its momentum going Thursday night when the Nittany Lions visit Ohio State for a Big Ten matchup in Columbus, Ohio. The Nittany Lions (16-11, 7-9) have won back-to-back games, led by reigning national and Big Ten Player of the Week Jalen Pickett's 73 points and 16 assists in the last two games. Pickett leads Penn State in scoring (18.6), rebounds (7.4) and assists (7.0) and is the only player in the country averaging at least 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Seth Lundy (14.4 points per game) and Andrew Funk (12.6) are also averaging double-digit points. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 76-69 win Saturday at Minnesota, their first road win since Dec. 10 at Illinois.
02-22-23 | New Mexico +6.5 v. Boise State | 77-82 | Win | 100 | 10 h 45 m | Show
The Lobos hung 81 points on the Broncos in their first meeting, and I wouldn't be shocked if this offense is able to hang tough on Wednesday as well. The Broncos were in a very similar spot this weekend against UNLV, but they won by just four points, failing to cover a 7.5-point spread. That dropped them to 4-7 ATS when playing as six-point favorites or more this season.
02-22-23 | Butler v. DePaul -2.5 | Top | 59-58 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 21 m | Show |
The penultimate week of the Big East season will feature a matchup of New England rivals on Wednesday night when No. 18 UConn plays host to No. 20 Providence in Storrs, Conn. Both teams are looking to build upon winning weekends, but the Friars (20-7, 12-4 Big East) have a three-game lead over the Huskies (20-7, 9-7) in the conference standings thanks in part to a 73-61 home victory on Jan. 4 in the teams' first meeting of the season. The Huskies, who were ranked fourth in the nation when they visited Providence, have played just once since losing Feb. 11 at then-No. 23 Creighton. They bounced back to beat visiting Seton Hall 64-55 on Saturday. UConn, which pulled away from the Pirates with a 14-0 run in the second half, got 20 points from Jordan Hawkins. Andre Jackson Jr. added a career-high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

02-21-23 | Colorado State +11.5 v. San Diego State | Top | 58-77 | Loss | -110 | 14 h 20 m | Show |
San Diego State controls its destiny with two weeks left in the regular season, and the No. 22 Aztecs will try to maintain their slim lead in the Mountain West Conference standings Tuesday against visiting Colorado State. "That's the beauty of where we're at," Aztec coach Brian Dutcher said. "We don't need any help. Our fate is in our own hands. We have four games to go, and it's in our hands." San Diego State (21-5, 12-2 Mountain West) has won four in a row to take a one-game-game lead over Boise State and move two games up on Nevada. "We're in the position we need to be in," Dutcher said. "We don't need help. We just have to take care of our own business to hang a banner." The Aztecs split their two meetings with Nevada this season and have one game remaining against Boise State after beating the Broncos by 20 points on Feb. 3. Dutcher said there won't be any scoreboard-watching in the coaches' office.

02-20-23 | Islanders v. Penguins -1.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 48 m | Show
Two frustrated teams meet Monday when the New York Islanders visit the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Metropolitan Division clash. The Islanders improved their playoff hopes with a comeback 5-4 win over Pittsburgh at home Friday, but both teams got smacked Saturday. New York not only fell to the Boston Bruins 6-2, but top-line forward Mathew Barzal left that game because of an unspecified injury after he took a hard hit in the first period. Pittsburgh dropped a 5-2 decision to the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders-Penguins rematch is important for teams trying to claw their way into the playoffs, but both clubs are out of sorts. Potentially being without Barzal is far from ideal for New York. He is second on the team with 51 points, first with 37 assists and has meshed well with newly acquired forward Bo Horvat.

02-20-23 | Flyers +1.5 v. Flames | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 52 m | Show
A case could be made both forward Jonathan Huberdeau and goaltender Jacob Markstrom had their best games of the season when the Calgary Flames beat the red-hot New York Rangers on Saturday. Now, the onus is on the Flames, and specifically that duo, to build on that performance when they play host to the struggling Philadelphia Flyers on Monday afternoon. The Flames remain in the thick of the playoff chase, but have won consecutive games only twice since the start of January. A big reason for the lack of the success has been the struggles of Huberdeau and Markstrom. Against the Rangers, Huberdeau collected two assists, including the overtime winner in their 3-2 victory, while Markstrom's performance was much closer to last year's top-tier level, even though he only faced 20 shots.
02-20-23 | Senators v. Bruins -1.5 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 1 h 56 m | Show
The Boston Bruins will look for their second consecutive home win when they host the Atlantic Division rival Ottawa Senators for the first time this season on Monday afternoon. League-leading Boston has won three straight after cruising to Saturday's 6-2 win over the Islanders, its first home action since losing to Washington a week earlier. "(Last Saturday) we didn't get one here coming back off the break and it ticked us off," Bruins forward Nick Foligno said. "Something we talked about at the start of the year was being a real hard team at home. ... We wanted to get back to that (Saturday)." It was a memorable Saturday for the Bruins. Not only did Trent Frederic score twice and captain Patrice Bergeron assured his 10th consecutive 20-goal season, but Jake DeBrusk posted a goal and an assist as he returned from a 17-game absence due to hand and lower-body injuries. It all added up to the seventh six-goal effort of the season for Boston, which is a whopping 23-2-3 at home.

02-18-23 | Colorado +13 v. Arizona | Top | 68-78 | Win | 100 | 9 h 18 m | Show |
No. 8 Arizona will try to get All-America candidate Azuolas Tubelis back on track when it hosts Colorado on Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., for the only scheduled meeting of the season between the Pac-12 foes. Tubelis had been a model of excellence and consistency until the last two games, which started with a loss at Stanford. He had his worst game, with four points and no rebounds while playing only 17 minutes due to foul trouble. His first half Thursday night against Utah was also something of a disaster. Tubelis picked up two personal fouls on the same play about five minutes into the game. He committed a foul on a push-off near midcourt in a loose-ball situation, and then compounded the problem by kicking the ball into the stands as it was rolling toward the baseline. Officials assessed a Class A technical foul (also a personal), and coach Tommy Lloyd sat Tubelis for the rest of the half. |
