11-16-23 | Devils v. Penguins -1.5 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 59 m | Show |
The biggest questions surrounding Thursday's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and visiting New Jersey Devils are whether it will be a clash of each team's top player, and which team's streak will continue. Penguins center Sidney Crosby is expected to be there, and he's flying, coming off a four-point night that helped Pittsburgh win its fifth straight game. Devils center Jack Hughes has a shot to return Thursday from a right shoulder injury, according to coach Lindy Ruff. Hughes has missed the past four games, and New Jersey has lost three in a row. Crosby, 36, has not let age slow him. He leads Pittsburgh in goals with 10 and in points with 19 after he had a hat trick plus an assist Tuesday in a 5-3 win against the Blue Jackets at Columbus.
11-16-23 | Boston College v. Pittsburgh -3 | Top | 16-24 | Win | 100 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
Boston College brings the baggage of its first loss in six games to Pitt on Thursday night, but the Panthers are unpacking much bigger problems. The Eagles (6-4, 3-3 ACC) had a five-game winning streak snapped last week when Virginia Tech scored 35 straight points en route to a 48-22 victory. BC was outgained 600-262 (including 363-124 on the ground) in suffering its first defeat since Sept. 23.

11-15-23 | Ducks v. Avalanche -1.5 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 15 m | Show |
Down 1-0 and with the Kraken having appeared to score another goal, the Colorado Avalanche were reeling early Mondy night in Seattle. But coach Jared Bednar successfully challenged the short-handed tally -- a move that seemed to turn things around for Colorado, which scored the next five goals to win 5-1. Instead of losing their third straight game, the Avalanche looked like the team that rolled through the postseason in 2021-22. They will try to build on that momentum shift when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. Anaheim is on the second game of a back-to-back after rallying to win 3-2 at Nashville on Tuesday night. Colorado still won't have winger Artturi Lehkonen, who is on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Center Andrew Cogliano and defensemen Samuel Girard and Josh Manson were out Monday with injuries as well, and are listed as day-to-day. Those absences opened up opportunities for others. Defensemen Sam Malinski and Caleb Jones were inserted into the lineup, with Malinski making his NHL debut and Jones his Avalanche debut. Colorado didn't practice Tuesday and had no additional update on the injured players. Despite not having key components, the Avalanche played well. Jonathan Drouin, who was a healthy scratch against the Kraken last Thursday, scored his first goal of the season on Monday night.
11-15-23 | Rice v. Texas -20 | 64-80 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 2 m | Show
No. 19 Texas welcomes Rice on Wednesday in Austin, and the Longhorns are fixed on repairing early turnover issues. The Longhorns (2-0) are home for a third consecutive game to start the season, which includes a workmanlike 86-59 win over visiting Delaware State on Friday. Max Abmas scored 19 points and Dylan Mitchell added 14 points and took 11 rebounds as Texas shrugged off a slow start and asserted itself over the final 10 minutes. "It's only going to continue to get better," Abmas said of the team's play. "You know, what is it, the second game? We're continuing to get that chemistry." The Longhorns (2-0) led by nine points at halftime and were up just 57-50 with 10:13 to play. A 20-1 run dispelled any notion of a comeback for Delaware State. Ithiel Horton added 18 points for Texas while Tyrese Hunter had 13. The Longhorns shot 58.6 percent from the floor in the second half and hit 12 of its 22 3-pointers in the game. Hunter has a team-high nine turnovers and the Longhorns have 33 giveaways in two games. Mitchell has five.
11-15-23 | Celtics -4.5 v. 76ers | Top | 117-107 | Win | 100 | 9 h 30 m | Show |
The Philadelphia 76ers won't have much time to dwell on their 132-126 loss Tuesday to the Indiana Pacers in the NBA in-season tournament. A night after seeing their eight-game winning streak snap, the 76ers host the rival Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Joel Embiid hit all 17 free throws and finished with 39 points and 12 rebounds. De'Anthony Melton scored 30 points, Tyrese Maxey added 27 and Tobias Harris had 22. But while the Sixers pulled within four twice in the final 30 seconds, it wasn't enough.

11-14-23 | Cal-Irvine v. USC -12.5 | Top | 70-60 | Loss | -110 | 14 h 39 m | Show |
No. 16 Southern California continues its early-season homestand on Tuesday night when it hosts UC Irvine in Los Angeles. The Trojans (2-0) followed an 82-69 season-opening defeat of Kansas State in Las Vegas on Nov. 6 with an 85-59 blowout of Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday. USC never trailed in Thursday's rout, which was the first of three home games for the Trojans before they travel to the San Diego area for a Thanksgiving weekend tournament also featuring Seton Hall, Oklahoma and Iowa. Freshman guard Isaiah Collier scored 19 points against the Roadrunners after an 18-point debut vs. Kansas State. Boogie Ellis was one of five Trojans who scored in double figures on Thursday with 11 points after a 24-point, eight-rebound performance in the season opener. Ellis also had five assists and three steals against the Wildcats.
11-14-23 | Grizzlies +5.5 v. Lakers | 107-134 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 9 m | Show
After a start to the regular season that did not meet expectations, the Los Angeles Lakers will embrace another chance to participate in the NBA in-season tournament when they play host to the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Lakers were just 3-5 and on a three-game losing streak when they played their first in-season tournament game Friday and pulled off a 122-119 victory on the road against the Phoenix Suns. Los Angeles rode the momentum from that contest to earn a 116-110 home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday in a game that was not tournament-related. The Lakers prevailed despite LeBron James sitting out for the first time this season while nursing a left calf contusion. James is listed as questionable to return on Tuesday. The Lakers believe they have uncovered a strategy that has helped forge back-to-back victories. Because of slow starts, Cam Reddish has been used as a starter the past two games, while Austin Reaves has come off the bench. Los Angeles still trailed after one quarter against the Suns, but the Lakers' 31-28 lead after 12 minutes against the Blazers, helped by 10 points from Reddish, was the first time they led after one period this season. There still is work to be done for Lakers coach Darvin Ham. As nice as it was to pull off the victory Sunday, the Blazers were extremely short-handed because of injuries.
11-14-23 | Ducks v. Predators -1.5 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 0 m | Show |
The Predators will be trying to turn around their fortunes after dropping the past three games, giving up 17 goals along the way. Nashville had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 against the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, but it gave up three straight goals over a 12-minute span of the second period and two more over the final 3 1/2 minutes of the third in a 7-5 loss. The Predators' penalty kill success rate has fallen to 68.1 percent, second-lowest in the NHL.
11-14-23 | Golden Knights v. Capitals +1.5 | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 5 m | Show
Despite embarking on one of their two longest road trips of the season, the Vegas Golden Knights left a day early for Tuesday night's opening game against the Washington Capitals. That's because the team had a Monday morning date with President Joe Biden at the White House to celebrate winning their first Stanley Cup. Captain Mark Stone and president of hockey operations George McPhee presented Biden with a gold No. 46 jersey and a golden hockey stick during the ceremony in the White House East Room. The Golden Knights, who lead the NHL with 25 points, then headed out to practice afterward and will open their five-game Eastern trip against a Washington team that is 6-1-1 over its last eight games. The Capitals also come in after posting back-to-back road regulation wins for the first time since Nov. 11-12, 2021, at Detroit and Columbus. Washington opened the weekend trip with a 4-2 win at New Jersey on Friday and followed that up with a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, a contest that saw Alex Ovechkin score two goals and Hunter Shepard stop 36 of 37 shots in just his second NHL start. Ovechkin increased his career total to 826, 68 shy of Wayne Gretzky's NHL record of 864. He capped the win with his 56th career empty-net goal, tying Gretzky for first place in NHL history in that category.

11-13-23 | Bulls v. Bucks -9 | Top | 109-118 | Push | 0 | 8 h 9 m | Show |
The Milwaukee Bucks will bid to bounce back from consecutive losses on the road when they host the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. Milwaukee dropped a 126-124 decision to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night and a 112-97 setback to the Orlando Magic two days later. Giannis Antetokounmpo backed up his 54-point night in Indiana with a 35-point, 10-rebound, seven-assist performance vs. Orlando. With Damian Lillard sitting out a second straight game due to a sore left calf, backup point guard Cameron Payne was second on the team in scoring with 14 against the Magic.
11-13-23 | Stony Brook v. Duquesne -13.5 | Top | 63-85 | Win | 100 | 7 h 17 m | Show |
11-13-23 | Central Michigan +20.5 v. Florida State | Top | 67-94 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 3 m | Show |
Florida State will be looking to open a season at 2-0 for the first time since the 2020-21 team won its first four games when it hosts Central Michigan Monday night in Tallahassee, Fla. The Seminoles (1-0) opened the season with a 94-67 romp past Kennesaw State Friday night to open a campaign seeking to erase the memories of last season's 0-4 start that became 1-9. The Chippewas (0-2) are coming off a 74-64 home loss to Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday after losing their opener 89-59 at Oklahoma earlier in the week. Junior Anthony Pritchard, a transfer from Tulsa, leads Central Michigan in scoring with 26 points in the two games. His average of 13.0 ppg is the only one in double figures for the Chippewas. Chippewas coach Tony Barbee lamented his team's lack of consistency in the loss to Monroe.
11-12-23 | Nevada +5 v. Washington | Top | 83-76 | Win | 100 | 10 h 20 m | Show |
So far, so good for Washington. The Huskies' 75-67 win over Northern Kentucky on Thursday in Seattle gives the Huskies a 2-0 record and allowed them to start a stretch of back-to-back games against NCAA Tournament teams from last year on the right foot. Washington should step up a little bit in class Sunday night when it welcomes Nevada to town. The Huskies will probably hope for a little more balance than they got against Northern Kentucky. Keion Brooks and Sahvir Wheeler combined for two-thirds of their points Thursday. Brooks scored 19 of his career-high 32 points in the second half and grabbed 10 rebounds. Wheeler, the Kentucky transfer, added 18 points and seven assists.
11-12-23 | Heat v. Spurs +1.5 | Top | 118-113 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 51 m | Show |
The host San Antonio Spurs look to get back on the winning track when they square off against the surging but short-handed Miami Heat on Sunday in an interconference matchup. The Spurs have lost four straight games, including a 117-110 setback at home to Minnesota on Friday in the team's first game of the NBA's in-season tournament. Victor Wembanyama and Devin Vassell scored 29 points each for San Antonio, with Jeremy Sochan adding 14 and Zach Collins chipping in 11. San Antonio led for the majority of the first half but let the win get away in the third quarter, when it was outscored by 15. The Spurs made a spirited run in the final minutes, cutting their deficit to five points but could not get over the hump. The rally was a change from San Antonio's previous two losses, when it fell by an average of 31 points.
11-12-23 | Blue Jackets v. Rangers -1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 21 m | Show |
The Rangers beat the Wild, 4-1, at home on Thursday, extending their point streak to nine games (8-0-1). It's their second point streak of 9+ games in this calendar year (10 games from Jan 23 -- Feb 18). Prior to that, they hadn't had one since October-November 2015

11-12-23 | Falcons -1.5 v. Cardinals | 23-25 | Loss | -110 | 26 h 50 m | Show
If there was any doubt as to how much Kyler Murray means to the Arizona Cardinals, the past 14 games have eliminated it. The two-time Pro Bowl selection is expected to return to game action for the first time in roughly 11 months when the Cardinals host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Murray tore the ACL in his right knee on Dec. 12 last season against the New England Patriots. Counting the game in which Murray was hurt, the Cardinals went 1-13 in his absence. Conner, the team's leading rusher, was activated from injured reserve earlier this week.
11-12-23 | Clemson v. Davidson +8.5 | 68-65 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show
Davidson will be out to make a statement Sunday when it faces Clemson in the title game of the Asheville (N.C.) Championship. The Wildcats held off Maryland 64-61 in the tournament opener Friday as freshman Bobby Durkin scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer with 12.7 seconds remaining. Angelo Brizzi scored 10 points with six steals, and David Skogman added nine points for Davidson (2-0). Brizzi scored four points in a 6-2 run that gave Davidson a 57-49 lead with 3:54 remaining. But Maryland tied the score 61-61 with 37 seconds remaining. Durkin's game-winner came after he slid open on the right wing and buried his fourth 3-pointer in five attempts. Maryland missed a 3-point attempt with five seconds remaining.

11-12-23 | Eastern Washington v. Cincinnati -12 | Top | 73-85 | Push | 0 | 1 h 36 m | Show |
In its season opener, Cincinnati's defense did not match its shooting prowess. In the second game, both elements clicked for the Bearcats. The Bearcats hope to effectively mix both elements again Sunday afternoon when they host Eastern Washington in the second game of the Cincinnati Basketball Tournament. Cincinnati (2-0) enters Sunday coming off two differing performances. In their 69-58 win over Illinois-Chicago on Monday, the Bearcats shot 41.8 percent and misfired on 20 of 25 3-point tries. The rough showing from the offense occurred when it allowed UIC to shoot 43.3 percent from the floor and 2 of 16 from behind the arc. On Friday against Detroit Mercy, Cincinnati scored 60 points by halftime and cruised to a 93-61 rout. The Bearcats shot 62.1 percent in the first half and 49.3 percent overall in a game that saw them hit 16 of 34 3-point tries.

11-11-23 | Heat v. Hawks -7 | Top | 117-109 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 57 m | Show |
At the outset of a minimum two-week stretch without their leading scorer, the Miami Heat might need to get creative beginning Saturday at the Atlanta Hawks. Tyler Herro sustained a Grade 2 ankle sprain when he landed on the foot of Memphis' Jaren Jackson Jr. during the first quarter of Wednesday's 108-102 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Without Herro's 22.9 points per game, where will coach Erik Spoelstra find his offense? Naturally, Bam Adebayo (22.7 points per game) is top of mind after he followed up a triple-double against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday with a season-high 30 points versus the Grizzlies. Jimmy Butler (18.4 ppg) is capable of keeping the scoreboard operator busy. However, he joined fellow forward Caleb Martin in being ruled out for Saturday's game. Butler is dealing with a personal family issue, while Martin is hobbled by a knee injury. The 37-year-old Kyle Lowry stepped up with a season-high 17 points on Wednesday to help Miami notch its third straight win. Lowry is the elder statesman of the team. And perhaps it's time for the youngest member of the club to step up when called upon.
11-11-23 | Raptors +8.5 v. Celtics | 94-117 | Loss | -115 | 6 h 21 m | Show
The Toronto Raptors will chase a third consecutive road victory when they face the Boston Celtics on Saturday night. It will be the final stop on a four-game road trip for Toronto, which opened the trek with a 114-99 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers before beating the San Antonio Spurs 123-116 in overtime and topping the Dallas Mavericks 127-116. The Raptors erased a 22-point deficit in their victory at San Antonio on Sunday, then Pascal Siakam hit season highs in points (31) and rebounds (12) during the Wednesday win at Dallas. Siakam made 15 of his 25 shots from the field against the Mavericks. Siakam averaged a career-high 24.2 points per game last season. He enters the Saturday contest putting up 17.4 points in 35.8 minutes per game this season.
11-11-23 | Bruins v. Canadiens +1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 43 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins have started piling up the wins for a second straight season. While last season's Bruins surged to an NHL-best 65 victories, the competitive nature of games this season has been much tighter despite an 11-1-1 start. The Bruins' 23 points matched the champion Vegas Golden Knights for tops in the league heading into Friday's action. Boston heads north for a Saturday night matchup with the Atlantic Division rival Montreal Canadiens having won five of its last six games. The Bruins played in four straight one-goal contests prior to Thursday's 5-2 win over the New York Islanders.
11-11-23 | Hurricanes -1.5 v. Lightning | Top | 4-0 | Win | 210 | 8 h 30 m | Show |
The fact that Tampa Bay finally took a home loss in regulation on Thursday was not the issue for the Lightning. It was how it all went down. The Lightning, who host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, saw Chicago rookie Connor Bedard turn in his best career performance in just over one period of play as the Blackhawks stormed back from two early deficits in a 5-3 win. Bedard, 18, posted two goals and two assists for a 4-2 lead that Tampa Bay could not overcome. Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov notched his team-leading 11th goal, giving him five tallies in four games.

11-11-23 | Wisc-Milwaukee v. Providence -13.5 | 69-79 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 52 m | Show
While first-year Providence coach Kim English liked what he saw from his defense during his team's season-opening victory against Columbia on Monday, he wants the Friars to take better care of the basketball when they play visiting Milwaukee on Saturday night. Providence (1-0) held Columbia to 29.6 percent shooting from the field (21 of 71) in the 78-59 victory, but the Friars also committed 18 turnovers. Bryce Hopkins led Providence with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but he lost five turnovers. Devin Carter and Rafael Castro each added 13 points, and Ticket Gaines finished with 12 points and seven boards.

11-10-23 | Jazz +5 v. Grizzlies | Top | 127-121 | Win | 100 | 10 h 53 m | Show |
The Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies play each other for the second time in 10 days Friday, but things are a bit different this time around. For starters, this will be an in-season tournament game and will be played in Memphis. The Jazz, who beat the Grizzlies 133-109 on Nov. 1 in Salt Lake City, will also be playing without their starting center. Walker Kessler is sidelined for at least two weeks with an injured left elbow.

11-09-23 | Oilers -1.5 v. Sharks | 2-3 | Loss | -133 | 13 h 56 m | Show
The two teams with the fewest points in the NHL square off on Thursday night when the Edmonton Oilers visit the San Jose Sharks. It's no surprise the rebuilding Sharks have started slowly, tying an NHL record with an 11-game winless streak to start the season before grinding out a 2-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. But the fact that Edmonton, led by arguably the two best players on the planet in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and expected to challenge for the Western Conference crown, comes into the contest with just two wins and five points after 11 games is head-scratching. The Oilers have lost three straight games and seven of their last eight games (1-6-1), including a 6-2 loss at Vancouver on Monday. McDavid, the reigning Hart Trophy winner as the league's MVP after leading the NHL in goals (64), assists (89) and points (153) last season, is in the midst of a six-game goal drought and has just two goals and 10 points so far this season. He did miss two games with an upper-body injury suffered in the fifth game against Winnipeg and speculation has arisen that he isn't close to being 100 percent healthy.
11-09-23 | Hawks v. Magic +3.5 | Top | 120-119 | Win | 100 | 12 h 22 m | Show |
The early season contest between the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic will have a different perspective with a visit to Mexico City on Thursday night. According to the NBA, it marks the first time the Hawks will play in Mexico. The Magic played games against the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz in Mexico in December 2018. Orlando won both games on that visit and will look to bounce back from a 117-102 home loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. The Magic led by as many as 15 points before wilting. Orlando was outscored 64-36 in the second half. The Magic made 7 of 11 3-point attempts (63.6 percent) in the first half but were a frigid 1 of 16 (6.2 percent) in the second half.
11-09-23 | Panthers +3.5 v. Bears | Top | 13-16 | Win | 100 | 10 h 9 m | Show |
Bryce Young has the fourth-best completion percentage in the NFL on third downs this season (67.2%; min. 40 attempts), but only 36.2 percent of those attempts have been for a first down, 25th in the NFL.The Bears committed five turnovers in their loss to the Saints last week. Chicago has an NFL-worst 18 giveaways and a minus-nine turnover differential. The last time the Bears led the NFL in giveaways was in 1957 (43).

11-09-23 | Virginia v. Louisville -20 | Top | 24-31 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 39 m | Show |
No. 11 Louisville looks to extend its 10-game home winning streak Thursday night against a Virginia team that has already played road spoiler once this season. The Cardinals (8-1, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) are 5-0 at home this season and haven't lost there since Sept. 16, 2022, against Florida State. The Cavaliers (2-7, 1-4) were victorious on their most recent visit to Louisville in 2021, overcoming a 30-13 fourth-quarter deficit for a 34-33 win. More recently, Virginia gained some confidence on the road with a 31-27 victory at then-No. 10 North Carolina Oct. 21 and a hard-fought 29-26 overtime loss at Miami Oct. 28.

11-09-23 | Bucks -2.5 v. Pacers | 124-126 | Loss | -115 | 10 h 46 m | Show
Two Eastern Conference foes playing the second night of back-to-backs face off as the Indiana Pacers oppose the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night in Indianapolis. Milwaukee comes in off a late comeback win against the visiting Detroit Pistons, 120-118. Notably, the Bucks rallied without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was ejected early in the third quarter when he received second technical foul of the night, for staring down an opponent after a dunk. Damian Lillard stepped up with 34 points -- including 18 in the fourth quarter. Bobby Portis added 18 off the bench and Brook Lopez was a force down low, scoring 14 while grabbing six boards and blocking four shots.
11-09-23 | Blackhawks v. Lightning -1.5 | Top | 5-3 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 22 m | Show |
On an evening when two players had memorable outings, the Tampa Bay Lightning closed out an erratic four-game road trip in Montreal on Tuesday with a win before a brief two-game homestand. Tampa Bay will host the young Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night -- two clubs who famously met in the 2015 Stanley Cup Final. The Lightning lost that championship series in six games, and there was no Cup-like celebration in the Tampa Bay dressing room after Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens. But there was still plenty of joy in the legendary Quebec building from the visiting side. The team celebrated the first career NHL win of 29-year-old goaltender Matt Tomkins, who was brought in to support Jonas Johansson when star netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy underwent back surgery during camp.

11-08-23 | Spurs +10.5 v. Knicks | Top | 105-126 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 17 m | Show |
Fans in New York are looking forward to the opportunity to watch potentially generational talent Victor Wembanyama for the first time Wednesday night. Wembanyama and the rest of the San Antonio Spurs are just looking to avoid once again flirting with making an ignoble bit of history. The Spurs will aim to bounce back from another lopsided defeat Wednesday, when they conclude a two-game road trip by visiting the New York Knicks in the first game of the season between the teams. Both teams were off Tuesday after playing Monday, when the Spurs were routed by the Indiana Pacers 152-111 and the host Knicks mounted a fourth-quarter surge to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 111-97. The 152 points were the most allowed in regulation by the Spurs under Gregg Popovich, who is in his 28th season as head coach. San Antonio edged the Washington Wizards 157-153 in double overtime on Feb. 25, 2022. The defeat also marked the second time this season the Spurs have lost by at least 40 points. They fell to the Clippers 123-83 on Oct. 29. The 41-point margin of defeat Monday was the third-largest for San Antonio in the Popovich era behind a 143-100 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 2, 2022, and a 111-69 loss to the Chicago Bulls on March 5, 1997. The Spurs, generally known for stingy defense under Popovich, are allowing 125.9 points per game this season, second-most in the NBA. They allowed an NBA-worst 123.1 points per game last season. 11-07-23 | Stony Brook v. St. John's -18 | Top | 74-90 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 10 m | Show |
The instant Rick Pitino arrived to coach St. John's on March 20, expectations were raised for a program without an NCAA Tournament win since 2000. After a busy offseason highlighted by a roster revamp, the highly anticipated Pitino era gets underway on Tuesday night when the Red Storm host Stony Brook in the season opener for both teams in New York. Pitino joined St. John's after three years at Iona -- his first collegiate job since being dismissed from Louisville in 2017 because of an FBI investigation that led to allegations of NCAA violations. Eventually, Pitino was cleared in the FBI-related case and led Iona to two NCAA Tournament berths. The Red Storm went 18-15 overall and 7-13 in Big East play, finishing eighth in the conference in the fourth and final season under Mike Anderson. St. John's did not reach the NCAA Tournament under Anderson and has played in five tourney games since its last win in 2000.

11-06-23 | Idaho +21.5 v. Washington State | Top | 59-84 | Loss | -110 | 25 h 25 m | Show |
Washington State welcomes nine newcomers this season, including one player from Idaho, which will play at Pullman, Wash., on Monday night in the Battle of the Palouse. The two schools, separated by eight miles, took a season off in their longstanding rivalry last season. They will meet for the 278th time, with Washington State leading the series 167-110. Isaac Jones, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, averaged 19.4 points and 7.8 rebounds a game last season for the Vandals and is among the players who will experience the rivalry. Kyle Smith, entering his fifth season as Washington State's head coach, plans to play a big lineup of Jones, 6-11 junior college transfer Oscar Cluff and 6-11 true freshman Rueben Chinyelu of Nigeria at the same time.

11-06-23 | Chargers v. Jets +3.5 | Top | 27-6 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 36 m | Show |
Los Angeles is allowing 320.7 gross passing yards per game this season, which would be the highest average in a single season in NFL history. The current mark of 311.8 was set by the Packers in 2011 (311.8).
11-06-23 | Lakers +1.5 v. Heat | 107-108 | Win | 100 | 10 h 25 m | Show
Los Angeles comes into the final game of Miami's homestand for the second date of a four-game road trip. The Lakers kicked off the swing Saturday with a 120-101 loss to the Orlando Magic. Los Angeles was outrebounded 51-40 and surrendered 19 offensive rebounds, which the Magic converted into a 36-15 edge in second-chance points. I expect a better effort and SU win tonight.
11-06-23 | Samford v. Purdue -19 | Top | 45-98 | Win | 100 | 21 h 10 m | Show |
The last time Purdue's men's basketball team played a meaningful game, it was being dealt an upset for the ages at last season's NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers' 63-58 first-round loss to Fairleigh Dickinson in Columbus, Ohio, seemed less a fluke and more a bad matchup as the game progressed. They couldn't get enough help for National Player of the Year Zach Edey and had trouble keeping the Knights from getting the shots they wanted. It added up to just the second 16-over-1 victory in NCAA tourney history, sending Purdue into a long offseason that will finally end on Nov. 6 when it starts the new season in West Lafayette, Ind., against Samford. On paper, it's hard to imagine the Boilermakers won't make a March impact in 2024. They won 29 games last season and return nearly all of their starters, including Edey (22.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocked shots). Purdue added quick, defensive-minded guard Lance Jones in the transfer portal. He also scored 1,514 points in four years at Southern Illinois, where he never had a post player like Edey.
11-05-23 | Devils v. Blackhawks +1.5 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -130 | 8 h 22 m | Show |
Sunday night's game between the Chicago Blackhawks and visiting New Jersey Devils initially shaped up as a matchup of two of the past five top overall picks in the NHL draft. An upper-body injury to New Jersey star forward Jack Hughes, however, figures to shine more of the spotlight on Chicago's Connor Bedard, the No. 1 selection in 2023. Hughes' status remained uncertain after he left during the first period of Friday's 4-1 loss at St. Louis. Hughes, the top draft choice in 2019, crashed into the boards midway through the period while splitting the Blues' defense. He returned for his next shift but went to the locker room shortly thereafter. Sportsnet reported the Devils "avoided the worst-case scenario" with Hughes, who is expected to miss some playing time due to the injury.
11-05-23 | Warriors v. Cavs -1.5 | Top | 104-115 | Win | 100 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
The Cavs have lost 12 straight games against the Warriors, but yet we're looking at Cleveland as a favorite. Something smells in this one.
11-05-23 | Raptors -3.5 v. Spurs | 123-116 | Win | 100 | 5 h 8 m | Show
The Raptors have won five straight games against the Spurs, with the last four all coming by double digits. Toronto had never previously won more than two consecutive games against San Antonio.
11-04-23 | Avalanche -1.5 v. Golden Knights | Top | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 11 m | Show |
The Avalanche look to extend their road winning streak over the Golden Knights to five games. Colorado won the only meeting in Las Vegas between the teams in 2022-23, and won 3-0 at home in the most recent matchup February 27 behind a 31-save effort from Alexandar Georgiev.
11-04-23 | Oregon State v. Colorado +13.5 | Top | 26-19 | Win | 100 | 13 h 11 m | Show |
Colorado has improved its points per game average from 15.4 last season to 32.1 this season (+16.7) and its passing yards per game average from 172.9 to 330.0 (+157.1), both of which are the largest improvements in the FBS. The passing yards per game improvement would be the largest by any Pac-12 team in the last 25 years.
11-04-23 | Lakers -3.5 v. Magic | Top | 101-120 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 19 m | Show |
The Lakers have won their last seven matchups with the Magic, including winning their last four by at least nine points in Orlando.

11-04-23 | Predators v. Oilers -1.5 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 18 m | Show |
The Oilers look to run their point streak against the Predators to 13 games as they meet for the second time this season. Edmonton improved to 10-0-2 in the last 12 matchups with a 6-1 rout at Nashville on October 17 as Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman each had four-point efforts.
11-03-23 | Mavs +6.5 v. Nuggets | 114-125 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 54 m | Show
The Denver Nuggets won their first NBA title in June. Five months later they begin the journey for another trophy -- but not one named for Larry O'Brien. The inaugural NBA in-season tournament starts Friday and Denver will host the Dallas Mavericks to open the West Group B play. The Houston Rockets, Los Angeles and New Orleans Pelicans are also part of the group. The tournament will culminate with the semifinals and final in Las Vegas on Dec. 7 and 9. The winner will take home the NBA Cup. The games in the tournament, with the exception of the final, will count in the regular-season standings so there is something on the line other than pride. For the Nuggets, that means bouncing back from their first loss of the season, a 110-89 rout at Minnesota on Wednesday night. The teams met in the first round of the playoffs last spring, won by Denver in five games. The Timberwolves exacted a little revenge with a wire-to-wire win and served notice that the Nuggets are a marked team.

11-03-23 | Knicks v. Bucks -5.5 | Top | 105-110 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 18 m | Show |
Most teams welcoming a new coach and a seven-time All-Star likely would experience a few growing pains, and the Milwaukee Bucks are proving to be no exception. After splitting their first four games, the Bucks' adjustment period continues when they face the visiting New York Knicks on Friday in their first game of the NBA's inaugural in-season tournament. Milwaukee coach Adrian Griffin is looking for an improved defensive effort after his team lost 130-111 to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. Malik Beasley scored 20 points to lead the Bucks, who acquired star guard Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers in late September. After scoring 39 points in an opening-night win, Lilliard has averaged 15.3 in his past three games. The Bucks also are in a transition period as Griffin looks to integrate Lillard into a starting rotation that includes Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Everyone involved is eager to start becoming more consistent on both ends of the floor. That transition stops tonight, Milwaukee rolls.
11-03-23 | Cavs -2 v. Pacers | Top | 116-121 | Loss | -115 | 10 h 11 m | Show |
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers get the honor of being the first two participants in the new NBA in-season tournament when they tip off the event Friday night in Indianapolis. Seven games are slated on opening night of the soccer-inspired tournament -- none earlier than the scheduled tip in Indiana -- during which the Cavaliers and Pacers will join the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons in round-robin play in East Group A. The game is a rematch of the Pacers' 125-113 win at Cleveland last Saturday, a contest in which Indiana reserve Aaron Nesmith scorched the Cavaliers for 26 points while the hosts were without star guard Donovan Mitchell. Indiana, which was 2-0 at the time, has since struggled, falling 112-105 at home to the Chicago Bulls and then 155-104 at Boston on Wednesday night. The 105- and 104-point efforts came after the Pacers had scorched the Washington Wizards and Cavaliers for an average of 134 points in their first two games.
11-02-23 | Spurs v. Suns -8 | Top | 132-121 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 7 m | Show |
The San Antonio Spurs won the first of two matchups with the Phoenix Suns in stunning fashion. Now the Spurs will attempt to make it a sweep in the rematch on Thursday night in Phoenix. San Antonio never led in Tuesday's contest until Keldon Johnson put the ball through the net with 1.2 seconds left. The hoop came shortly after Victor Wembanyama dunked home a putback with 6.8 seconds remaining to bring San Antonio within one. Phoenix star Kevin Durant received the inbounds pass and was waiting to get fouled in the right corner by Tre Jones. But Johnson came in and stole the ball from Durant with just over four seconds left and drove for the decisive basket. (FLM)
11-02-23 | Titans v. Steelers -2.5 | Top | 16-20 | Win | 100 | 10 h 13 m | Show |
While the Falcons had only tape of Levis from Tennessee's preseason opener in the Titans' offense, Pittsburgh has a full game to break down and study the rookie for anything to exploit.
11-02-23 | Wake Forest +12.5 v. Duke | 21-24 | Win | 100 | 10 h 12 m | Show
Duke (5-3, 2-2 ACC) has fallen out of the national rankings after holding spots in the polls since conquering Clemson in its first game of the season. More recently, the Blue Devils have dropped games to nationally ranked Notre Dame, Florida State and Louisville -- with that trio now all in the top 15 nationally. Wake Forest (4-4, 1-4) has lost four of its last five games, the exception being a comeback to upend Pitt in the final seconds two games ago. Duke's offense has been out of sorts since an ankle injury to quarterback Riley Leonard. He has started the past two games, but mobility appears to be an issue. The quick turnaround for this game might not help matters.
11-02-23 | TCU +3 v. Texas Tech | Top | 28-35 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 48 m | Show |
Preseason goals have been adjusted for TCU and Texas Tech heading into Thursday night's Big 12 Conference showdown in Lubbock. But that doesn't mean there will be any less intensity when the rivals meet. The visiting Horned Frogs (4-4, 2-3) have found life more treacherous this season compared with 2022, when a stretch of strong play blended with good fortune to vault the team into the national championship game. For the Red Raiders (3-5, 2-3), a spate of injuries -- especially at quarterback -- and some close-call losses have punctured the chance to fulfill various preseason prognostications that pegged them as a conference sleeper. Now the two proud programs will collide, each coming off a bye week and each eager to bounce back after tough-to-stomach losses. On Oct. 21, TCU absorbed a 41-3 rout at Kansas State, and Texas Tech lost 27-14 at BYU in a game when the Red Raiders' five turnovers derailed any chance of the team keeping pace with the Cougars. Though he downplayed it, this will be the first trip back to Lubbock for TCU's Sonny Dykes as a head coach at the school where his father, Spike Dykes, won 82 games from 1986-99.(FLM)
11-01-23 | Kings +7 v. Warriors | Top | 101-102 | Win | 100 | 25 h 6 m | Show |
11-01-23 | Pelicans v. Thunder -3.5 | Top | 110-106 | Loss | -110 | 23 h 43 m | Show |
The New Orleans Pelicans are no strangers to adversity. It's been a constant theme in recent years as Zion Williamson and others have missed significant playing time. The Pelicans hope the latest bit of misfortune will be a bump in the road, though it could stretch through Wednesday's road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. New Orleans star forward Brandon Ingram is listed as questionable for the game after being scratched from Monday's loss to Golden State about an hour before tip-off due to right knee soreness. The Pelicans did get some good news concerning Ingram's knee, though.

10-31-23 | Magic v. Clippers -6 | Top | 102-118 | Win | 100 | 11 h 53 m | Show |
Los Angeles has scored 364 points through three games -- fifth most in the NBA. The 364 points are the Clippers' second most through three games in franchise history (2019-20, 375).We know the history between these two clubs favors the Magic, but the Clippers are a better team and the number indicates oddsmakers feel the same.
10-31-23 | Spurs +7.5 v. Suns | 115-114 | Win | 100 | 10 h 19 m | Show
The Spurs fell against the Clippers on the road Sunday, 123-83. The 40-point margin of defeat was the first in the NBA this season, and the Spurs had two such defeats of 40+ last season - tied most such games in the NBA (Nets, Bucks, Blazers).I think this number is a trap and we're not falling for it.
10-31-23 | Kings v. Maple Leafs -1.5 | Top | 4-1 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 14 m | Show |

10-30-23 | Canadiens v. Golden Knights -1.5 | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 41 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights will try to increase their season-opening point streak to double-digits on Monday night when they host the Montreal Canadiens in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights, who opened the season with an NHL record seven straight wins for a defending Stanley Cup champion, bounced back from a 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night to win the second game of a back-to-back, 4-3, in a shootout at Los Angeles on Saturday night. Jack Eichel scored in the first round of the shootout and Logan Thompson, who had 36 saves in regulation, made it hold up with three more stops in the shootout, the final one coming with a glove save of a Kevin Fiala try. Vegas brings a nine-game points streak (8-0-1, 17 points) into Monday's contest. The last two teams to start a season with that long of a streak were the Florida Panthers (10-0-1, 21 points) and Carolina Hurricanes (9-0-0, 18 points) in the 2021-22 season. (FLM)
10-30-23 | Blazers +7.5 v. Raptors | Top | 99-91 | Win | 100 | 11 h 50 m | Show |
The Toronto Raptors know that they must begin to find better scoring chances for Pascal Siakam starting Monday night against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. Siakam scored only 11 points Saturday night in a 114-107 home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the return of former Toronto coach Nick Nurse. The Raptors, who were playing the second of back-to-back games on Saturday, will be facing a team playing its second game in two nights. Portland opened a three-game road trip with a 126-98 loss to the 76ers on Sunday night. The Trail Blazers are winless in three games this season. Despite that, seven points is too many to give up with the Raptors
10-29-23 | Lakers v. Kings -2.5 | 127-132 | Win | 100 | 12 h 51 m | Show
Since 2020-21 the Kings are 4-1 (.800) against the Lakers on the road, only the Clippers' 5-0 (1.000) record is better over that span (minimum five games at LAL).
10-29-23 | Spurs v. Clippers -8.5 | Top | 83-123 | Win | 100 | 12 h 45 m | Show |
Since 2014-15, no one has a better record against the Spurs than the Clippers, going 19-13 (.594) against them during that span. After winning five of the first six coaching matchups against Tyronn Lue, Gregg Popovich has gone 2-7 against him, including losses in each of the last four meetings. (Stats)
10-29-23 | Blazers v. 76ers -9.5 | Top | 98-126 | Win | 100 | 10 h 27 m | Show |
The winless Portland Trail Blazers will continue their search for scoring in the absence of Anfernee Simons as they open a three-game trip, starting Sunday night against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Trail Blazers made the cross-country flight Saturday shackled with an 0-2 record, the first loss having been more painful than the second by virtue of Simons breaking his right thumb during a 123-111 setback against the Clippers in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Portland then immediately experienced the impact of losing its top returning scorer when the Trail Blazers put up just 97 points in their home opener, a 102-97 loss to the Orlando Magic on Friday. The Trail Blazers shot just 39.8 percent overall and went just 9 of 32 on 3-pointers. Simons is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. (Stats)

10-28-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 9-1 | Win | 100 | 10 h 12 m | Show |
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly has a tall task on tap in Game 2 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers on Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Kelly (2-1, 2.65 ERA in the postseason) will have to subdue Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia in order to help the Diamondbacks gain a split of the first two road contests of the best-of-seven series. Seager tied Game 1 with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Garcia went deep in the 11th to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory on Friday. (FLM)
10-28-23 | 76ers v. Raptors +4 | Top | 114-107 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 55 m | Show |
The Toronto Raptors will face former coach Nick Nurse for the first time when the Philadelphia 76ers visit on Saturday night. The Raptors have split their first two games under new coach Darko Rajakovic. They lost 104-103 in overtime to the host Chicago Bulls on Friday despite a triple-double from Scottie Barnes, who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Chicago's Alex Caruso sank the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left in OT. Toronto won its season opener at home on Wednesday, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 97-94. The 76ers lost their first game under Nurse 118-117 to the host Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. Nurse coached the Raptors from 2018-19 until the end of last season, when he was fired after Toronto lost a play-in game against the Bulls following a 41-41 regular season. The 76ers hired him on June 1. Nurse guided the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019.
10-28-23 | Tennessee v. Kentucky +4 | 33-27 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 25 m | Show
When No. 21 Tennessee travels to face Kentucky in a Southeastern Conference clash on Saturday in Lexington, the Volunteers and Wildcats are seeking the finishing touch. Both are coming off games in which they led SEC opponents in the second half before imploding. In Tennessee's 34-20 loss at then-No. 11 Alabama, the Volunteers (5-2, 2-2 SEC) blew a 13-point advantage as they were outscored 27-0 in the second half. In Kentucky's 38-21 home defeat to Missouri, the Wildcats (5-2, 2-2) entered the fourth quarter in the lead before surrenderingg the game's last 18 points. Kentucky has had a bye week to recover from its collapse and to address other issues. After opening 5-0 and rising to a No. 20 rank, the Wildcats have yielded 89 points while losing their past two games, to No. 1 Georgia and then Missouri. (FLM)

10-27-23 | Clippers -4 v. Jazz | 118-120 | Loss | -113 | 9 h 19 m | Show
After a lopsided season-opening loss to the Sacramento Kings, the Utah Jazz are hoping to turn things around against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday in Salt Lake City. The Clippers, meanwhile, are looking to improve to 2-0 while ending a regular-season drought at the Jazz. They have dropped 10 straight games in Utah. It would bode well for the Clippers if they play like they did in Wednesday's 123-111 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Paul George led the charge with 27 points and Kawhi Leonard scored 23. That potent duo played in only 38 games together last season due to injuries.

10-27-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 17 m | Show |
Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi could etch his name in the record books on Friday when he takes the mound for Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arlington, Texas. Eovaldi (4-0, 2.42 ERA) is aiming to become the first pitcher to win five starts in the playoffs. Randy Johnson (2001), Francisco Rodriguez (2002) and Stephen Strasburg (2019) have recorded five wins in a single postseason, but each of the three pocketed a victory in relief. Eovaldi, 33, allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 9-2 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday. The Texas native has struck out 28 batters against just four walks in 26 innings in the postseason. Although Eovaldi is making his first career start in a World Series, it's not his only appearance in the Fall Classic. He made three relief appearances with the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 World Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the loser of the epic 18-inning Game 3 when he served up Max Muncy's walk-off homer. Eovaldi allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits in six-plus innings of relief in that game.
10-27-23 | Nuggets v. Grizzlies +6 | Top | 108-104 | Win | 100 | 7 h 55 m | Show |
The reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets go on the road for the first time in the 2023-24 season Friday when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies. Denver began its defense of the first championship in franchise history with a 119-107 defeat of the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. The 2020-21 and 2021-22 Most Valuable Player and last season's Finals MVP Nikola Jokic tipped off the campaign with a 29-point, 13-rebound, 11-assist triple-double. Jokic has averaged 19.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 26 career matchups with Memphis. Last season, Jokic scored no more than 18 points in any of Denver's three meetings with the Grizzlies but recorded triple-doubles in each of the Nuggets' two wins. On Tuesday, all five Denver starters scored in double figures and three notched at least 20 points. Jamal Murray shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range en route to 21, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope went 8-of-12 from the floor for 20 points. The Nuggets also got a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double from Michael Porter Jr. in the season opener. Prior to the game, the team received its 2022-23 championship rings.

10-27-23 | Blackhawks v. Golden Knights -1.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -119 | 6 h 23 m | Show
The Connor Bedard road show makes its first stop on the big stage of Las Vegas with a matinee Friday afternoon, when the Chicago Blackhawks try to snap a three-game losing streak against the unbeaten Vegas Golden Knights. The NHL schedule-makers certainly didn't do any favors for Bedard, the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft who is considered by many a generational talent, and the rebuilding Blackhawks. This will be the fourth straight game against an unbeaten opponent and the second in a week against the defending Stanley Cup champions. The brutal eight-day stretch began with a 4-0 loss at Colorado on Oct. 19 and was followed by home losses to the Golden Knights (5-3) on Saturday and reigning Presidents' Trophy winner Boston (3-0) on Tuesday. Heading into Thursday's action, those three teams were a combined 19-0. Chicago was tied heading into the third period in its loss to Vegas and trailed Boston 1-0 after 40 minutes but was outscored a combined 5-1 in the final period by those two teams. Frustrated Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said his squad needed to be tougher in crunch time.
10-26-23 | Bucs +10 v. Bills | Top | 18-24 | Win | 100 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
Facing a short week, and questions about Buffalo’s sluggish offense and injury-depleted defense, Bills coach Sean McDermott entrusted his players in believing they’ve been together long enough to know how to tackle adversity. “Listen, we’ve shown that we know how to win, and we know how to figure things out, and we know how to develop players and find the answers and solutions,” McDermott said, in preparing to host Tampa Bay on Thursday night. “We’re used to this. This is what we do.” The three-time defending AFC East champion Bills (4-3) are suddenly in turmoil following a rash of injuries sidelining three key defensive starters and not getting help from a slow-starting offense that’s combined for 10 points in the first half in losing two of its past three. The message was notably similar in Tampa Bay (3-3), where coach Todd Bowles dismissed questions about the Bills struggles by placing the emphasis on his Buccaneers to respond after dropping two straight and three of four.
10-26-23 | Wild -1.5 v. Flyers | Top | 2-6 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 43 m | Show |
The Minnesota Wild will look to carry their offensive momentum into Thursday's road matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Wild rallied for five goals in the third period on their way to a 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Ryan Hartman recorded a five-point game -- a hat trick and two assists. The five points tied his career high, and the hat trick was the second of his career. Hartman's other three-goal performance occurred on Jan. 8, 2017, when he played for the Chicago Blackhawks. "We (Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov) were able to find each other early," Hartman said. "We kind of talked about it as a line. We've been watching some shifts together, and too many times we were trying to get inside or were forcing it a little bit. You know, I think we've kind of been keeping it and waiting for our moment to strike as opposed to forcing it. |
